We stayed at the hotel this July and picked this venue as it was one of the very few small luxury hotels around in the UK. The location beside the loch enclosed by several mountains is very stunning and makes up the 3 points I have given. However this is where the special... more

A warm welcome
Am amazing drive around the Applecross Penninsula (take time for lunch at the Applecross Inn) brought us to our inn on the edge of Loch Torridon. With a view of wall to wall mountains, we were ready to put our heads down and have a quick bar snack as we knew we'd eat in the inn whatever the food was like as we were too tired to go further. Our room was in converted stable buildings and delivered everything we expected from a 3* lodge - it was spacious with a sparkling bathroom and lots of tea, coffee and biscuits. What sets this inn apart if you're in the area is the warm hospitality of the staff. There's a lovely bar with pool table and a Bistro which far exceeded our expectations for food. After the home made pate and oatcakes, a blade of beef so tender it fell apart and a good glass of Merlot, there was no room for dessert - a real shame as the list was tempting. It was a busy place with a queue for tables but we'd booked when we checked in. There was the same warm welcome the next morning to a freshly prepared continental breakfast with home cooked ham, cheeses, fruit and fresh bread and croissants. We only passed through for one night on our way to Ullapool but others were staying for longer - not least because there are activities provided on site. I'll be recommending this inn to friends with older children who enjoy the outdoors.

Thank you very much for your kind review as it is really appreciated. We are really glad you enjoyed the Inn and so pleased that the staff looked after you well, their friendly manner is often commented on. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Torridon in the future. Regards, Daniel & Rohaise

An oasis in the West Coast
Check-in excllent,Room 16 superb--great views and bathroom. The overall ambience is one of understated luxury and great attentive service without being intrusive. Food---could not get my first choice, but the Lobster Ravioli was a superb second.9 The West Coast is bereft of good hotels(including the currently owned Inverlochy Castle). This stands out above all else GO---You will not be disappointed

Fantastic!!!!
Just spent one night (sadly) at The Torridon in room 14. The room was wondeful, with a slipper bath in the bedroom and shower etc in the turret. Room was spotless, bedding etc to the highest standard and all extras you could ask for. View from the bedroom was stunning of the Loch, mountains and the lovely Highland cattle and 2 cute calfs..And to top it all the weather was sunny and hot (as it always is in the Highlands) Dinner and breakfast top notch. The setting is spectacular but what makes the Hotel are the lovely and helpful staff. Thanks again everyone at The Torridon. As we don't live far we will be back..
Can't Wait To Go Back
Just back from The Torridon and had to write a review straight away. In a word it is Magnificent. The location is remote, peaceful and beautiful (well worth the drive up the single track road, watch out for deer and sheep). The food was sublime. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. The room was wonderful with a massive bed. Relaxing in the slipper bath in the turret looking over the loch was delightful. Would recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family in a heartbeat.

Secluded Luxury
We've stayed here a couple of times and on both occasions, it's been fabulous. Our original visit was a honeymoon present and it's a very memorable one. It's expensive, but it's really very pleasant indeed. There is, of course, some superb walking and scenery around here, and to come back from a hard days' tramping up a hill to the luxury of Torridon makes it even more worthwhile. I'm not sure I'd stay here with children, it just wouldn't work. But a quiet weekend away without them? The perfect location to escape to.
Overpriced and living on its reputation
We stayed here for 3 nights in January 2007 having stayed here before and been impressed. We were really disappointed this time and thought it was grossly overpriced and living on its reputation. Bearing in mind this was January, there was only a tiny fire burning in the reception hall when you would expect a big roaring one. On both the Saturday and Sunday they couldn't be bothered to light a fire in the residents lounge or the library so it was hardly a welcoming place to come back to after a good long walk. We booked a superior room which was really dated and tired. All in all it seemed as if the owners are now just going through the motions so to speak. We would definitely not recommend it to anyone.

I have written to the reviewer and apologised and explained what we have done. I would add we were somewhat surprised to receive a review for January in September, as it is hard for us to retrace any comments made at the time of departure. The couple were on a birthday celebration for which they were upgraded to a Deluxe room. This room was completely refurbished in March 2007 and can be viewed on our new website. I have apologised for the fires where the size of the fire was not big enough in the reception and it is normal practice to have the other fires lit when people are sitting in front of them. In early January 2007 we refurbished the bar, drawing room, library and reception. Since Dec 2006 we have refurbished 4 bedrooms and 3 more are planned for this winter 2007. We have gone through a major rebranding in the last 6 months and are now known as The Torridon. By any stretch of the imagination this is not "going through the motions". The ownership remains the same family although the younger generation have bought the business in recent years and have moved the hotel on. We have invited the reviewer back to see the recent changes.

Jewelbox of a Setting
I stayed here August '07 for one night in the "royal suite" which was their most expensive room. The hotel itself was a laird's hunting lodge, nicely converted to a very comfortable hotel, with some portions added to modernize services. The ambiance is special and creates a view of the life of the wealthy 150 years ago. It is located back from the lake, with a dramatic view of the mountains, and Highland "coos" grazing in front. The accomodation was excellent, nicely appointed, and staff could not have been any more attentive. The whisky bar has 310 single malts!! Local walks and hikes are easily accessed, and there is a full-time recreation director (I took a sunrise walk at 430 AM). Breakfast and dinner service was excellent, and the dinner itself was one of the finest meals in recent memory.
A treat!
Spent two wonderful nights here in July, enjoying glorious weather when the rest of the UK seemed under water! Our bedroom, with unrestricted views across the loch and to the mountains, was comfort de-luxe in every way and came with a huge bathroom and separate shower en-suite. We spent our day time walking, but the hotel does offer a fantastic ranger and activity service. We found all staff to be extremely polite and attentive and supervisory staff demonstrated great natural warmth and hospitality. We left having felt truly cosseted and refreshed.
