The Popinjay is located in a nice part of Lanarkshire known as the Clyde Valley, situated just along from Garrionbridge roundabout and close enough to the M74 to make it easy to access.
It has just been renovated, and they have added a gym which replaced one of their suites. Unfortunately the development took over much of their gardens, but since it's been relandscaped they still look ok. I didn't get a chance to try the gym but it did look very good, although a tad pricey for a membership.
There is a lovely traditional bar just off the main entrance. The food is also really good, usually receiving great portions for your money. The breakfast was in buffet style with all the usual suspects typical of a Scottish hotel.
We were having our wedding reception there so we were lucky enough to stay in the honeymoon suite. The honeymoon suite was great, it even had a bath in the actual room separated by net curtains.
The Popinjay staff were great on the day, and my only complaint is I feel they did rush out the meals slightly, leaving only a couple of minutes between courses. Also they only had 1 member of staff on the reception in the morning, and because there was a problem with another guest, my friends had to wait an hour before being able to check out.
On the whole though, a very nicely situated hotel, ideal for trips down to Lanark and other places, or if you are lucky enough, a wedding reception :D
