Hotetur Lago Playa

We stayed at this hotel in August and were abit apprehensive as we couldn’t find many reviews on the internet. But, the hotel was really good and great value. Great position right on the beach, plenty of sunbeds round the pool and lovely friendly staff. Not many English but that was a good thing as far as we were concerned. Most of the staff spoke some English and were mostly German.
We really liked Cala Ratjada, the bars & restaurants were all wonderful again catering mostly for the German market and as a result everywhere was really calm and clean. No karaoke bars or rowdy brit pubs except for a few noisy cocktail bars round the harbour but they were great for our 17 yr old son who had a really good time. We also took our 13 year old son too and they both soon teamed up with some other kids staying at the next door hotel. They would go into town in the evening to go bowling and I felt it was safe for them to go off on their own. Not sure if I would feel the same if we have been somewhere like Alcudia or another English resort in Majorca.
There is a fabulous fish restaurant on the promenade called C'an Pere with the best view across the bay and really wonderful food. Try the seafood platter. Although we were half board at the hotel we ate most meals out. The hotel food was ok, our boys really liked it but I would go B & B next time. We would go back just so we could go back to the fish restaurant again !
The beach is pretty small and got quite busy so we would get our sunbeds round the hotel pool each day and just walk over to the beach (50 yards!) for a swim in the sea. It saved the 9.50 euro a day charged for an umbrella and sunbed on the beach. I would definitely go back to Lago Playa & Cala Ratjada - compared to Alcudia or Porto Pollensa I think it is the nicer resort even if you can't speak German!
I would recommend the hotel as it was not too big and there was always plenty of room around the pools. The rooms were cleaned every day and they would change your towels daily if you wanted.
It was good travelling independently too, no hard sell excursions from annoying reps. Great flights from Luton with Monarch and an easy 45 minute drive in our hire car made our 10 day holiday really good value.
