The worst place we've stayed on holiday
1 / 10
Jun 2011, mac

We thought the rooms were very basic with an air conditioner that dripped for our entire two week stay. The family that ran the hotel and the staff that worked for them seemed quite unfriendly. This hotel might be ok if you get a poolside room, however we were unlucky and got a ground floor room in a part of the complex we later discovered was referred to as the dungeons, a good decription. The hotel is agood 15 minute walk from the overcrowded beach that you will have to pay to lie on (5 lira at least). We were badgered constantly on the way to and from the beach each day, something we are not used to from our usual holiday, we always exspect a little but this was extreme. I wouldn't recommend this hotel or resort. This was our first time in turkey and i'm sure it will be our last. Maybe turkey isn't for us.

Just returned from the pinewood and have to say they are wonderful. The apartments, bar area, pool, gardens etc are spotlessly clean. All the staff and owners are friendly and helpful, the food is great and very good value, nothing was to much trouble for them.
We would very much like to thank Eddie and Ken the waiters, these 2 guys made our holiday in the pinewood always smiling and helpful.
Try the homemade cakes by Semra the owner, beautiful.
Hope to see you next year.

exceded expectations

Aug 2010, Dinah

We have just returned from Icmelar this morning (13.08.10) and we had a fantastic time. We had never considered a holiday in Turkey before but decided to see what it was like this year. We arrived at the Pinewood apartments to be greeted by the owner and a member of staff who took our cases to our apartment, which was very clean. The pool area was very clean and well kept and there were lots of sunbeds. The staff were all VERY HELPFUL, PLEASANT AND FRIENDLY. They could not do enough to help. The food was also lovely. The resort was extremely nice and we can honestly say that this is the best holiday that we have had for many years. We would definitely go back again and recommend the resort and these apartments. The owners even took time to bid 'farewell' to all of the guests when they left. Turkey certainly exceded our expectations in every way.

  • Advice: We found the Turkish people very friendly and Icmelar is a beautiful place.

1St time to turkey
8 / 10
Jun 2009, amberking90

We have just come back from a week long holiday to the Pinewood Apts. It was our first time in Turkey. when we thought of turkey we thought of a dirty country but how wrong were we. everyone in the hotel were cleaning all the time.
Simon and Joesph and the rest of the boys couldnt do more for you. if you want food in your room just ask them and they bring it up to you. the pool area is quite big with plenty of sunbeds. the main room was quite big with only one wardrobe and the safety deposit box is £5 per week and is quite small on the wall in the main room. if you want the kettle it is located in the cupboard next to the fridge or above the fridge.
The two men who own the supermarket at the bottom of the roads cant do enough for you either if you need any help ask them.
Try De-Ja Vu for breakfast best breakfast in Icmeler, the one in the hotel isnt very nice it is turkish bacon and sausages so not nice. Jimmys in the restaurant opposite is the most annoying man in the country i think.
For Meals the best places we went to were:
Sylvias - English woman who doesnt hassle you in which is right opposite deja vu.
Red Lion - Although they can be annoying sat with us while we were eating making us paper roses out of tissue
Titanic - one of the best restaurants in icmeler on main road
the Dolmous buses are so easy to use put ur arm out where-ever you want it to stop and they will. it cost 2 lira per person and when you want to get off just shout stop and they will.
The icmeler market was closed when we went due to a protest so we went on thursday to marmaris. erhhh the worst thing we have ever done so hot and annoying. if you want to do a trip do the lazy day boat trip.
Down by the canal in Icmeler there are lots of bazaar shops but one of the best shops is the TURKISH PRIMARK they sell bags and purses 3 for £10 amazinggggg.
I enjoyed it so much booking nxt week to go back in October this yeah. woohoo. say hi to people in hotel tell simon if he remembers "GREEN ICEEEE with Sprite"

  • Advice: the Hassle is a nightmare
  • Activities: Deja Vu, Slyvias, Titanic, Red lion. The best trip is lazy day boat

We stayed at the Pinewood for two weeks over half term and loved it. Even though it was half term, there was plenty of loungers and lots of space. The staff were lovely, food was gorgeous, apartments were spotless. One of our party had a birthday while we were there and the staff made a fuss of her! We were all upset to leave. Bedding and towels were changed regularly and the shower we had was fantastic! The owner and his wife ate there every night, and they had the fattest laziest cat weve ever seen. Kids really enjoyed it and the staff were very helpful if we needed anything.
The market which in in icmeler on a wednesday is on the same st, but the beach is a good 15 min walk away. There is a bus into marmaris which is 2 lire (about 80p) takes 10 mins and drops you wherever you want! There is a small supermarket 5 mins away from the appts and a bakery which sells hot bread next to it. You can get the bus to main supermarket in marmaris. There are hundreds of resturants and bars on the way to the beach, we didnt have a bad meal there to be honest, although some bars really overpriced their drinks. The Wonder Boys Bar was great fun, as was the Venice Bar. And please try the boat trip, we saw dolphins, fed fishes and stopped at a couple of little towns on the way. Lovely day out but we did it on the second to last day and we would of gone again if we had the time!
Were going back to Icmeler in August and will probably never go anywhere else again. Also take an empty, or almost empty case, because the clothes are really cheap and good quality. Buy stuff there and bring it home!
Jeep Safaris do not involve animals! It involves lots of people in a Jeep, with waterguns. We knew what we were getting into and dressed accordingly. Your clothes get wrecked and you have to throw them away. Other people thought they were going to see animals and brought expensive cameras, had full make up on etc and were not very pleased with the 14 of us who all had huge waterguns! They dont tell you that there is no animals but I know a lot of people were really angry that they got soaked and didnt see tigers! They drive like madmen too, so maybe not for the faint hearted! We went to Jesus beach were you can walk on the water and it was brilliant.

  • Advice: Boys, keep near your women in the markets! The men there are gropers!
  • Activities: Boat Trip, Jeep Safari, and the Market, never tasted food like it

Just returned from Pinewood after two fantastic weeks there, the best holiday i have ever had. The apartments are absolutely spotless, so are the grounds and bar area. Maids are lovely and friendly and tidy your room every day. The owners Ibrahim and Semra are lovely and will do anything for you. The waiters at the bar are lovely, courteous and polite and nothing is too much trouble. I would reccomend eating at the restaurant/bar as the food is excellent and cooked to a high standard. The pool area is just big enough, but you'll have trouble finding a bed as most people reserve them even though there are signs saying not to. If you find there are none left have a word with Simon or Joseff at the bar and they will find you one.
Pinewood is ideally located, a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the resort centre. We loved one of the local bars - Deja Vu - great entertainment, friendly staff and plenty for the kids to do while you have a drink. In the centre of icmeler, i would reccomend Noels, next to the Three Bells. Down by the canal the Majestic has an excellent atmosphere and a wide choice of food to choose from, also Venice which is opposite. I am definitely going back to Pinewood, i miss it already. I can't reccomend it highly enough and if you are reading this and are due to go there, then lucky you!!!

Well where to start... This was our...

Jul 2008, Mr L Pearce

Well where to start... This was our first time to turkey and it was the best holiday we have ever had, our holiday started on the 26th june and we arrived at the pinewood apartments at approx midnight, at the gates we were greeted by simon one of the waiters who took our cases and shown us to our room, on entering the room our first impression was "the rooms are a bit pokey" but then we realised there was a fair sized bedroom with a double wardrobe, dresser table and plug sockets.
The first thing we did after that was paid for a saftey deposit box £5 and to have the air conditioning put on at a cost of £35 a week but it was essential as the temperature was 35degrees at midnight, all we were thinking was what would it be in the day! the next morning we went exploring and found some real nice bars a minutes walk from the hotel, Deja Vu being the one we spent most of our holiday in at night, they had loads of entertainment with different acts every night and the lads were brilliant dancers and brilliant with the kids, the beach was a nice 10 - 15 minute stroll away and there was a big supermarket (tansas) about 5 - 10 minutes walk away, the dolmus stop is about 5 minutes walk away which was handy when we wanted to go to marmaris for the day.
All in all the pinewood apartments are very clean the maids are brilliant (did our washing up) aswell as cleaning our shoes and clothes away what we had left lying around, the pool bar was brilliant offering alot of choice you have to try the pancakes with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce they are amazing!!! the waiters are brilliant, they will do anything for you, they are brilliant with kids aswell. We spoke to the owners who were very helpful and very genuine people, my partner was quite sceptical about going to turkey as was i but after spending 2 weeks in these lovely apartments we are booking to go back for another week in October this year, i can definantly see why people come back to these apartments and turkey as a country. Roll on October :-)

Jun 2008, Mrs J LORD

Returned from pinewood apartments 2 weeks ago, what a fantastic holiday, we have been to Icmeler before so didnt expect any big surprises, how wrong I was, staying at the Pinewood Apartments in the old village was like a completely different resort, beautiful setting wonderful views lots of bars & places to eat just on the doorstep, the apartments were fantastic extremely clean we have been going to Turkey for 20 years and these were by far the cleanest we have ever stayed in, the owners and staff are lovely, very helpful, nothing was too much trouble, I would also recommend the food at the apartments.
We went on the village trip which we booked at a shop which is just near Tansas supermarket lovely guy called Jimmy, this is well worth a visit and at only £ 10.00 per adult including lunch it is well worth the money.
Got the boat across to Turung which is in the next bay small beach which is quite rocky but setting beautiful.
All in all a fantastic holiday already looking to book for next year, if you have any special requirements email the owners direct i.e room location
If you have booked to go here you will not be dissapointed, the location is ideal, nice and quiet but only 10 minutes from the front, apartments lovely and clean (wardrobe small but lots of cupboard space).

What are the negatives about the...

What are the negatives about the Pinewood Apartments & Turkey NOTHING. Very clean, friendly staff, good food, lovely settings. The apartments are in the old village so there are enough restuarants bars etc to stroll to, or if you want it busier go to the town. The jeep safari is an excellent day trip for two people it cost us about £20. But what fun everyone had you an but a dvd of the day and photos dvd and 4 pics for about £32. We also done the lazy day boat trip - be prepared to be rammed onto a boat with loads of people and you may not get a sun bed the meal is chicken, pasta & salad. Advice go to the harbour in the morning about 9.45 - all boats sail at 10 and pick the least busier one. Both trip where booked via an agent in the town and not the rep. The boat trip if booked direct with the captain its cheaper again. Very safe to walk around at night & day. Go with very little in your case as clothes are cheap and very good copies and they wash up well. Elvis bar is great fun they do a show most nights and they also do an excellent fishbowl cocktail. Caught the boat taxi to Marmis 15 Lira - 30 return excellent way to travel. They likethe English Pound and certain cashpoints you can get English money out. Loads to do & see - EXCELLENT HOLIDAY
NEGATIVES :-_
THE AIRPORT (DALAMAN) ON YOUR DEPARTURE IS VERY EXPENSIVE - BIG MAC Meal £12, KIDS MEAL £9. Take your own food and water as they don't put the air conditioning on.
First Choice Reps/Air stewards useless we had one in the airport called Helen and she just coward when there was a problem with the check in & people wanted answers what did she do she hid behind another rep from a company I have never heard off and couldn't explain what was happening. The air stewards on the First Choice Airline will tell you they take Turkish Lira ( THEY DON'T) we found this out on our return flight when we asked then we then ordered some food luckly enough we had just enough english money for it. There explantion was that the girls have only done 4 flights but if the plane went down they could help you !!!!
