Kirchberg in winter is the perfect snow topped setting. Its like walking into a postcard. The town is quite compact and most places are within a ten minute walk of the train station. There is a great variety of restaurants and eateries at your disposal, ranging from traditional Austrian cuisine to your average takeaway pizza. Kirchberg itself is at the foot of some spectacular mountains and is also the site of many competitive ski events.
It is neighboured by the town of Kitzbuel which hosted the recent downhill World Championships. The skiing in this area is excellent, with very convenient bus links to all the surrounding valleys and their ski routes.
I stayed in the Club Habitat which is very popular with young groups of travellers who are there for the slopes. It has a great relaxed atmosphere, with a range of events and après ski. The Hotel itself is more of a comfortable hostel, with rooms housing around 4+ people and shared bathrooms. The bedrooms themselves are pretty basic and have simply a bed, wardrobe, table and sink. The rooms do have central heating which is a bonus in the chilly winter months. As you can probably tell, people do not come to the Club Hab if they want a quite relaxing holiday!
The hotel has ample secure storage for your ski equipment and offers ski hire facilities, ski lessons, and ski passes. It has a vibrant nightlife with many 'outsiders' visiting the hotel in the evenings for a spot of après ski!
The only possible drawback the Club Hab has is its catering. You do receive a three course meal each night, however the meals aren’t very varied, and some find them not entirely filling.
The hotel has the added features of internet access, safe, bar that serves light snacks after 4pm and also a limited library.
If you are out for a fun packed busy week of skiing then the Club Hab is the one for you, it is even possible to ski from the top of the mountain right to the door!! However if its relaxation you want this will not be for you.
