Worth every cent
The PHK, as a previous and extensive reviewer referred to it as,is quite simply indulgence of the highest order. One major difference between this hotel and its '5' star neighbour is that the PHK is quitely confident and not at all brash and thankfully lacks pretention. No other hotel in all of Ireland, with the exception of the Park in Killarney, can hold a candle to this hotel in terms of atmosphere and properly trained staff with a genuine interst in their guests comfort(and that includes the castles). We have stayed in them all at one time... more
very comfortable , well run
We visited the Park Hotel in Sept . we drove from Shannon airport . beware of narrow roads. The rooms are beautiful and large with a good view of the lake.the bathroom was well appointed but the shower lacked power The staff were very helpful and the owner John Brennan was very professional we visited the Samas Spa its worth the 3 hours lying about being pampered . We loved walking about Kenmare we ate in the hotel the 1st night and Packies the next. both were good . the hotel full dinner is a lot to handle . if you are going for the... more
Humble luxury
We stayed 5 days at the PHK and cannot wait to go back! The staff was professional yet they made us feel like family. The spa was wonderful! The bartender was very patient in teaching us about Irish whiskey and was never curt or rude. Every request made was fulfilled without hesitation. The location was walking distance to the lovely town, with wonderful restaurants and shops. The weather in August was a bit cool, which was nice. We hated to leave but will return. We intend to spread the word about PHK.
Gracious Hotel
Our two night stay in the Park Hotel Kenmare during October, 2005, was wonderful. It is a gracious, old hotel full of antiques and evocative of the great hotels of the European past. Our room (304) was a charming, two level suite overlooking a lovely view of the countryside and bay beyond. The bathroom was rather small, but attractive with a heated towel rack. Throughout our stay, the young Irish staff was exceedingly gracious and helpful. Our first dinner in the hotel dining room was top rate…candle lit, beautiful table linens,... more
Absolutely Perfect
My husband and I just returned from Ireland, and two of our favorite nights were spent at the Park Hotel Kenmare. The staff is incredibly warm and gracious, they all knew us by name and made sure greet us warmly each time they saw us. Breakfast was delicious and there was a huge array to choose from. They views are spectacular. We adored the bar and the wonderfully friendly and charming bartender, John. Be sure to ask for him, The spa was to die for. We spent an hour in the thermals and they had to peel us out to go into our 90 minute... more
Imperfect Perfection
Just returned last night from a three night stay at Park Hotel Kenmare. As part of their LifeStyle Programme, two visits each to the SAMAS spa for both myself and my partner were included in our room rate, as was one structured activity which we chose to be a golf lesson. Also included were daily yoga classes, pilates classes and fitness walks but oddly enough, we didn't find the time to join in! This was our second stay at PHK (the first was February 2004 for two nights; our activity was a guided hike); perhaps on our third visit I'll... more
Felt I'd been mugged!
I thought I had agreed a price for the room. In fact the hotel charges per person in the room. I'm too embarrassed to say how much I paid for a two night stay. It was exorbitant. The e mail confirmation made it clear, I just didnt' read it carefully enough. A shame, because I won't go back there. This is a very good 4 star hotel. I recommend the Aghadoe Heights in nearby Killarney which I also stayed at earlier in the week which is 5 star and about half the price. Be warned, agree the cost basis very carefully!!!
Very disappointing
I'm not one for writing reviews but given we chose this hotel because of the fantastic reviews, I had to write to disagree. On a positive note, the service was fantastic -and anywhere in Ireland that offers good service should be congratulated. Likewise, the spa was modern and luxurious and was definitely worth the price paid for the three hours of pampering. On the other hand, for the price you pay, the rooms are certainly not up to scratch. The interiors were old and in much need of a total facelift. The room was big, but it felt... more
Relaxing...
We visited the Park Hotel in May. The rooms are beautiful (we were in #320 and had a beautiful view of the lake). The staff was incredible - they would do anything to help make your stay perfect. You must visit the Samas Spa - it is worth the money for the Samas Experience. I must admit the massages my husband and I received were just "OK" - but the entire 3 hour experience was incredible. We loved being able to walk in and out of Kenmare easily. Eat at the Lime Tree Restaurant next door - wonderful meal and atmosphere. I didn't find... more
