We normally stay at the City Hotel when visiting family in Derry but, as it was full, we had to use the Travelodge - never again. Despite notices in the lift promising a bar and restaurant facilities (even featuring menus), we were informed at reception that there was no bar or restaurant open as they 'hadn't had a delivery'.
Our room was overlooking the main bar / nightclub street in Derry and as a result we had no sleep at all with drunken revellers screaming and shouting and taxis sounding their horns until after 4am. I understand that this can't be helped in a city centre location but surely these rooms should have double glazing? When we asked at reception if we could move to a room at the back of the hotel for our second night's stay we were told they were fully booked. This was strange as we saw only two other guests the entire time.
In fact the place was always deserted with the reception desk never manned. The room was dirty, the bathroom tiles cracked and grimy, the carpet stained, the TV not working etc etc. Yes, I know this is a budget hotel but the standards and attitude of the staff were dire.
Stay here at your peril.
