Will never stay anywhere else in Galway
I have stayed at the Imperial in the past, myself and 13 family members. I have nothing but great things to say about the Imperial, friendly waitstaff, clean rooms, great food. The bar is fantastic, the bartenders are personable and knowledgable. The location is perfect, stones throw from anywhere in the city. Even after a long night out, hitting last call at every bar in Galway, you will always find the Imperial bar open until at least 4AM, for residents only. I am going in 2 weeks with 14 family members, and I did not even shop... more
Calling this hotel 'imperial' is false advertising
Ended up staying in the Imperial by default as all other hotels were full and this seemed to be the last available room in the city. The reception area is tiny and with tiles on all surfaces has the appearance of a public toilet. Our room was miles away from the lift through a maze of corridors. The room was large and awkwardly shaped so that the tiny tv was extremely far away from the bed - it was really difficult to see it. The bed sagged in the middle so that we had sore backs in the morning. We looked onto a street so it was very noisy... more
Great Location, but don't expect to sleep much on a weekend
We arrived in Galway City after staying at some lovely B & B's along the south and west coast. The Imperial Hotel is centrally located right on Eyre Square, and steps from the pedestrian zone. There is no on site parking, but they will direct you to a discounted pay lot. With the maze of one-way streets, and Friday afternoon traffic, we had difficulty finding it but found another that turned out to also offer the discounted rate. The rooms were very small, and somewhat tattered - in dire need of renovation - plaster chipping off the... more
Excellent Stay
We stay for 4 nights at this wonderful hotel in a beautiful city. The staff were very helpful and friendly with all or needs. The rooms we found to be loads of space and very clean with quiet.A lovely bar menu was available the days we were not too hungry and a Table D´Hotel menu in the evening where we eat for 3 nights which was excellent. The Hotel is located in the heart of the city and no car is required. We will hopefully return to Ireland and to this excellent hotel.
Great Location
Never having been to Galway before but having heard from friends, I decided to see why this city is a must to see, if you are in Ireland. Myself and my wife and now grown up kids travelled by car from Rosslare, Wexford, in the South East taking three hours to get to the city. On arrival from a choice of maybe 20 hotels, we picked a central hotel called The IMPERIAL Hotel, in Eyre Square. room rates were reasonable and the hotel's restaurant and bar had just been renovated to a very plush modern look. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, everything... more
Great location
Stayed with 4 friends on feb 19 and 20,2005.Good location in centre of everything.Staff very friendly and food and drink good.Nice rooms and brand new ground floor areas.Room prices were good value. We would recommend both Galway and the Imperial for anyone looking for a great weekend.BH party.
terrible
tiny, cramped rooms that were dirty, smelly, dark, dismal, crowded with old furniture we had booked a reservation but did not stay - after looking at three different rooms, we walked outside and found a better hotel (The Skeffington Arms) the staff seemed complacent and accustomed to losing customers
Loved the Imperial Hotel
We found the Imperial Hotel to be spacious, clean, comfortable with a very large bathroom! The location was perfect. The friendly competent staff were helpful and gracious. I would highly recommend this charming hotel.
"Not so "Imperial" Hotel"
My husband and daughter and I stayed at the Imperial Hotel Galway for 2 nights, on 4th & 5th August 2004. We were to stay another night and we cancelled. We found the hotel to be very shabby and the staff were very complacent. Our room "boasted" a double bed and a single bed, and was very dark. It required ALL of the lights to be on during the daytime. I failed to notice that our double bed quilt was badly soiled, until the 2nd night and reported it on the day we decided to leave. The reaction of the staff was quite poor and I requested a... more
