DREADFUL
from A TripAdvisor Member
I wish I had seen this website before I stayed there. My first room was grubby, stained chair, half drunk bottle of cheap wine in the wardrobe, TV with no reception, no bathroom shelf etc etc. I complained and was moved to a different room on a different floor (one of the staff had told me that the 4th floor rooms had all been refurbished and were lovely with plasma TVs - unfortunately I didn’t get one of those. The new room was better but not great with a very noisy fan going all night. The amount of pigeons meant I was unable to leave...

Not very Fantastic
from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just stayed for three nights at this hotel. I was with a group of other people, so it was possible to get a number of different opinions on the quality of the rooms, which we felt were definitely variable. The main problem, which was experienced by several of us, was the noise of the extractor fan from the kitchen. This was vented upwards, in a pipe, past several of the bedroom windows and was very very loud. As the window in my room wouldn't shut, I couldn't block out the noise. I was assured by the reception that it would be...

Good value

I was apprehensive about staying after reading the previous comments, however, I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I stayed with a couple of friends for Easter weekend and we both had beautifully refurbished rooms on the 4th floor. I understand that these were renovated a couple of years ago. Very up to date with all facilities that you would expect of a modern hotel. Breakfast was wonderful, piping hot and service first class. A free car park is provided and is extremely handy. Hotel is central for everything in the city and the...

Not up to much
from middleclassmiddleage
I wouldn't quite go down to one star for this Hotel. Though having to mend the door lock on my room is indicative of the fact that they don't seem to have any repairs done about the place. I did eat in the restaurant - mainly because the streets of Stirling seemed to be filled with loads of yobboes throwing cans of lager at each other and screaming abuse. The food was OK and I actually had an alright breakfast. The bottom line is that this is a very cheap hotel and the quality of the upkeep shows this. The staff were all very polite...

Never Again
from A TripAdvisor Member
Oh, where to start. After complaining four times about my 1960 style television that did not work, had no remote and an aerial that rather resembled my mattress I am still waiting for it to be fixed. I am assuming the hotel does not employ porters or maintenance staff. Whilst on the subject of employment, perhaps housekeeping staff should be employed? I used tweezers to lift the blanket off the bed, and who knows what crawled on me while I slept. As for my shower in the morning to help my now crippled back after spending the night in...

On a recent short break we stayed 2 nights. Beautiful Historic hotel. Reception, Bar,Dining Room, Bed Room all very comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished. Dinner and Breakfast were a delight.Well the Chef is Irish Staff are some of the most courteous, friendly and helpful people working in hotel industry anywhere. Looking foreward to my next visit.
Fantastic Stay!
from A TripAdvisor Member
As part of a large party staying at the hotel this weekend, we'd just like to say our rooms were lovely - huge!! And clean too!! The food was gorgeous and the service was great. Only quibble was the prices at the bar but apart from that our stay was brilliant and we would go back again. Also, if you were looking for a friendly wee pub to visit, we'd recommend The Claymore, just up the road from the hotel - very cosy and very friendly. This is an honest review. We all had a great weekend and there were 86 of us!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
The worst hotel I've ever stayed in
from A TripAdvisor Member
The first night was noisy in a dirty room. We asked to be moved and had to return to the front desk 3x to get it to happen. The second room was somewhat quieter, but worn and dirty. Then a sports teams checked into the hotel and made a tremendous amount of noise. Numerous calls to the front desk did nothing to stop it. The breakfasts were mediocre. The staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. After returning home, my travel agent and I wrote 6 messages to the hotel, none of which were answered.
Overpriced and in need of some TLC
from A TripAdvisor Member
Having spent 4 nights camping in Aberdeen, we were very tired and looking forward to a long hot shower and a bed to sleep in the night. Stirling was approximately half way home and having decided to spend the night in Edinburgh on the way up, we decided on Stirling for the way back. The hotel lobby was actually quite impressive, but once away from the ground floor, the hotel was evidently in need of some renevation or at the very least a lick of paint. Our room had peeling wallpaper and once I had taken my shoes off, I noticed that...

very disapointed with the hotels cleanliness
from Tinkerbell_23_Fife
On arriving at the Golden Lion I was very impressed by the entrance, however on entering my accommodation I was very disapointed - my non smoking room had a dirty ash tray, there were tags cut out of the previous guests clothes on the floor, the shower was covered in black mildue and the roof was all water stained and damp causing a sour smell. After a long journey I was too tired to complain and fell into bed with a piece of skin that I could not locate the source of on my own body. In the morning I went down to breakfast in their lovely...
