Park Hotel

This is a copy of what I wrote to the manager." I regret to say that our stay at Park Hotel, Falkirk was miserable, disappointing and not an experience we wish to repeat. The room we were allocated, No.22 , was the smallest double room we have ever had the misfortune to occupy. We had been on an extensive motoring tour and had two large suitcases. There was absolutely no place to unpack or store the cases. There was a chair in the room but it was more of a hazard than an asset. I slept on the side of the bed nearest to the window, I was born in 1932 and not surprising I do get up during the night to use the toilet, this necessitated me climbing over the chair. The view from the window was less than inspiring, a half filled rubbish skip, the waste bins, rooftops with heat exchangers and other less interesting objects. Of course the rubbish emptying lorries came in the morning just to add to the view. There were cigarette butts on the window sill despite the room being non-smoking. The 2nd floor appeared to be in a state of re-wiring with light bulbs dangling from wire through holes in the ceiling, renovation with peeling wallpaper and half painted dado rails. The lift seemed to be always occupied by staff, laundry trolleys, furniture removals etc. We booked far in advance by Internet and would have expected to have been allocated a reasonable room or advised in advance that due to renovations or furniture replacements that only sub-standard rooms were available, in which case we would have booked elsewhere. I made my feelings known to the reception staff, they apologised but it was obvious from what they said that they had never seen the inside of Room 22, probably never been to the 2nd floor." It wasn't until we were leaving after two days that I discovered that rooms at the front of the hotel were much larger and apparently were not more expensive. The public rooms and dining room were fine. I would suggest to anyone considering booking a double room at this hotel that they insist being allocated a room at the front of the hotel. .
