Pine Trees Hotel Pitlochry

Worst and most overpriced hotel I have ever come across. Pouring with rain when we arrived late in the afternoon so a nice warm welcome would have been nice. did we get it? NO. Instead we were left standing in the recption whilst the receptionist woman (could even have been the owner) carried on a phone conversation for over 5 minutes. On arrival at the Pine Trees I was pleasantly surprised by the style, atmosphere and general grandeur of the reception rooms. My opinion of this hotel only increased over my excellently priced 3 night break. The room was well-furnished, clean and stocked with lots of goodies to make the stay more enjoyable (the shortbread was my favourite). It was with some trepidation we approached the hotel having read the reviews after booking. However, we were delighted with the standard of service, the size and decor of the rooms and bathroom and cleanliness of the hotel. The staff were keen to help and the food was lovely. We would go back again.

I find it a little curious to note the comments of people who have stayed in this hotel recently. We spent one night in the hotel on a visit to Pitlochry to attend a play at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Bear in mind it is a 3* hotel so you're not going to get the Ritz but within its category we thought it performed very well. I reviewed this hotel some time ago - see "First Class" Apr 04. I have since been back again and it was to say the least, disappointing. We were booked to stay for 2 nights. The room we were given was awful - extremely dark and oppressive colour scheme with heavy, ugly furniture. The bathroom was grubby with cracked tiles, mouldy seals, shoddy paintwork - just altogether nasty. PLEASE STEER CLEAR OF THIS HOTEL !!! The managers and owners do not care about their customers. They are trying to see how they can get the money out of their customers and do not care about the customers' stay and experience at their hotel. Food is nothing to write home about either. The double beds are just 2 single matresses pushed together which leaves you sleeping uncomfortably. I can't describe how disappointed I was with the Pine Trees. I've read these great reviews and saw their nifty website and thought the hotel would be a sure bet. I was terribly wrong. In my opinion they are riding on a long outlived reputation. The room was "semi-clean", didn't look like anything represented on the website, the "king" size bed was two old full sized mattresses pressed together. My wife and I have just returned from Pitlochry where we enjoyed a Christmas break at the Pine Trees Hotel. We found that the excellent reports we had read about the hotel were in no way exaggerated The atmosphere, the food, the accommodation and the service were all first class-even the snow arrived on Christmas Eve to enhance the occasion. Thanks to all at the Pine Trees.

We have just returned from a 2 night break in this small country house hotel. It is set in large grounds and has only 19 rooms together with 1 suite. Our room was very comfortable and well equipped. The hotel is interestingly furnished with antiques and original paintings. Staff are helpful at all times without being intrusive and the service and quality of food in the restaurant warrants a visit in itself. Please note that the hotel is non-smoking throughout. We will definitely be going back.

We had a short 3-night stay in this quiet and romantic hotel after our wedding in May 2003. At the time of booking, they only had one four-poster, and unfortunately this had just been booked by someone else ... they did tell us, however, that they have another on order. The room we were given was beautiful anyway and was at the side of the hotel that overlooks the lawn ... we could lay in bed and see only the tops of trees, the sky and the mountains in the distance ... lovely.
