Ballynahinch Castle Hotel

My husband and I stayed at Ballynahinch for 4 nights in March, and could not have been more pleased with this property. We had a luxury room in the new river wing. It was just lovely - very spacious, king size 4-poster canopied bed, sitting area, great bath, plenty of closet/drawer space, and huge windows overlooking the Ballynahinch River. Concluding a two-week trip through much of the south and west of Ireland with my father in June, we stayed here for a week and weren't bored once. For the first night we stayed in an old, standard room, which was quite nice and had a nice view of the mountains, but we only stayed here because we were a day early... However, after this we stayed in the 'Cloonile' suite, which is a very nice room (and I thought naming all of the rooms in the new wing was a nice touch!) with two beds and an exceptional 4-piece bathroom. I stayed in Ballynahinch Castle in mid-September with some visiting relatives from the Czech Republic. I have known the place ever since I was a child and it always exerts a magnetic pull which draws me back to it time after time. Although there are many famous castle hotels in Ireland (including Ashford and Dromoland), Ballynahinch is the closest thing there is to an oasis of calm in a troubled world. As Yeats would have put it, it's a place where "peace comes dropping still." Spend a few days there, walk in the wooded grounds of the castle... more

If you are looking for quiet elegance, this is the place! The rooms are older but very well done and very comfortable. We enjoyed just walking around the property and exploring all the beautiful nooks around the river. The dining room is top notch and dinner was exquisite! I would definately recommend this property to anyone wanting to enjoy the "real Ireland"!
