Queens Hotel Reviews

Oct 2007, Mrs M Hoban

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the Queen's Hotel and had no fault to find with the accommodation and service while we were there. The food was excellent, and the menu for dinner offered a good selection for each course. The breakfast was also very good. Our room... more

Excellent stay at Queens Perth
QUEENS HOTEL PERTH - EXCELLENT BARGAIN AUG 2006 As a couple who go abroad very regularly I planned a two night stay at Queens Perth for our silver wedding anniversary in August 2006. An amazing deal of 35 pounds per person for bed- superb breakfast and fantastic evening dinner was on offer. I booked two nights. On my arrival on a Sunday afternoon we were checked in immediately and the room was massive although slightly dated. TV tea/coffee, hair drier radio shower & bath all fine. Facilities- Dining:- Breakfast and evening meals were exceptional quality. Hint ( Your evening meal although included in this limted deal has an upper price level which wasn't clear. ie if you order all the top priced menu items you will be billed extra!!) The hotel is literally 2 minutes from Perth Rail and bus stations should you wish to travel further afield without your car or for travel to the premises. I was really impressed by the leisure facilities. There is an excellent gym, sauna and steam room but the heated pool was a treat. (large enough to do some real swimming.) The town centre is fine for shopping and there is an excellent Wotherspoons pub about a 10 minute walk northwards at the waterfront. Prices very good for your drinks. Perth is an excellent base for day trips around the area and if the weather is good it can be superb. I will be looking for a similar deal in future and will return without doubt. The only minor annoyance was one elderly 'toff' lady who took it upon herself to moan continuously about her meals on both nights I stayed, much to the consternation of the other guests. I commented to the staff how professional they were in dealing with this irritable crustation. Paul Greig. West Lothian.
Well & Truely Conned!!
I booked a room with this hotel via the internet and guaranteed our room with my credit card. On arrival at the hotel, I paid the receptionist cash as I never use my credit card for hotels. We never ate in the hotel as we didn't really fancy it. One of the staff recommended a local restaurant which we eventaully dined at. We weren't impressed with the room and felt it was a 2 star and certainly not a 3 star. A bit shabby to say the least. Several days later the hotel had debited my credit card for the room I had already paid for with cash and had also charged us for eating in the restaurant. Strange, considering we never ate their and even stranger that they had charged us for a meal which contained meat and I have been a vegetarian for 20+ years!!! When I phoned the hotel and requested that they refunded "my" money they refused accusing me of not paying!!! They did eventually credit me for the meal that we never ordered!!! The grieve I had with this hotel and their staff to try and get my money refunded for the room was unbelievable and to this day they never did refund me so basically they unlawfully took money from my credit card account. I would recommend that you give this hotel a wide berth as we will never stay there ever again. We were well and truely conned.
Try somewhere else!
Hmmm, I've now witnessed what several other members have been warning against! The check-in process was quick and easy despite being lumbered with a single room. However, as I was about to walk away from reception, I was told that "I could smoke as much as I want in the room as it's a smoking room!". Great if I was a smoker. So there I was in a smoky, hot, broom closet; with(as previously mentioned by others) a 1970s avocado bathroom and a curtainless window over looking the bus station! I have to say that the bed was a tad uncomfortable for my liking and being over 6ft I seemed to overhang the end of the single bed by a good foot! The hotel itself appears to have been redecorated in the not too distant past, however it distinctly gives the impression that the cracks have been papered over! Anyway, I found the bar staff most agreeable and there certainly was a good choice of whiskies for those after a decent nightcap. However, I was most disappointed with breakfast; cheap sausages, cheap bacon, greasy scrambled eggs and lukewarm toast. I can't say that this old place is on the radar again.
Dingy, decrepit timewarp
5 of us from work were booked into this place through Expotel (our booking contractor) - with whom we will be having serious words. Great location - near the town centre, train station - and literally next door to the bus station (watch out, boys and girls - no curtains on the bathroom windows!) Rooms are unbelievably dated, all of the common areas are battered, creaky and frankly smelly. I really thought avocado bathroom suites had gone out in 1978 - if they did, then this hotel bought 'em up cheap (not that my room had a bath, just a shower). Lovel 'bijou' 12" TV in the room, though it was at least colour. Shame it couldn't get more than two channels, though. Staff were okay, but no reason to get involved with them really too much. 'Funniest' part of the stay was the colleague who had a shower in the morning, and couldn't urn the shower off. She notified reception, who did precisely nothing about it. Twenty minutes later, water dripping in several places through the ceiling of the 'restaurant' where breakfast was served - which was on cold plates, even for ordered food. I'm not unduly fussy, but this hotel is an archaic dump, which is an insult to the (normally) acceptable standards of the best western chain. I left feeling grubby, tired and couldn't wait to get on the road. More telling is that the comments of my colleagues were all along similar lines.
horrible, filthy, tatty, smoky, what else can I say
Agree with all of above, asked and got half our money back!
