not young children friendly

stupidly after booking a package holiday to this hotel i then looked at reviews which were not great. to start with the hotel is situated at the top of a steep hill which you have to pull your luggage up to. when u arrive you are on the sixth floor with no sign posts where reception is (4th floor)
The main issue we had was that the two lifts they were so small our childs buggy would not fit in unless calasped, and would not fit through our room door way either unless colapsed. concidering we were travelling with a 2 year old and a 1 year old, they gave us late sitting for dinner which was 8.15pm which was far to late for little ones. if you wanted to venture out to shops and beach for us was a trek in itself due to another lift and door frames that were too small for buggy which we then had to callapse or carry the buggy and kids down four flights of stairs. i spose the hotel would be ok if you were a young couple but no family freindly like it states. the pools were freezing cold september as we have not long been back. some of the staff are lovely but bar staff are very rude, and if you are full enclusive you are only alowd to collect 2 drinks at a time which when traveling with 2 kids is riduculous as it means having to do two trips to bar. the entertainment is good though, and my little girl loved the mini disco on nearly every night. there is building work going on at hotel which meant that there was alot of banging. overall it was nice to get away but hotel made it more stressful than its worth. oh and a quick note if you planning to visit spain lloret de mar beach has crap atificial sand which you cannot build sandcastles with at all. (my little girl was very dissapointed)

  • Advice: no not visit with young children, ideal for older children and young couples and friends

Arrived in spain at approx 11pm, with myself partner, and 6 kids in tow, was dropped off on a busy main road, and told to walk to hotel ?, driver said turn left, then left again, in the dark, after half hour with kids moaning found the hotel, first reaction was oh my god steps and more steps, arrived in building dragging luggage to find more steps, after checking in there were more steps, and thankfully then a lift.On arrival to our rooms, there were pretty basic but clean, beds and pillows were rock hard, but when your tired who cares...Food at hotel was excellent couldnt fault it, plenty of choice for everyones taste, all inclusive at the hotel was well worth the money, but the rules at the hotel were pathetic, about 10 rules about the pool, worst was only 1 drink at a time at the bar, when there are eight of you, takes ages, the staff apart from a couple were rude and very ignorant, and not at all helpfull, do not ever move your beds, i did and was bollocked for it. No floats except armbands in pool, and rings only, no reserving sunbeds which was good really gives everyone a chance to get a bed. Good overall holiday, no enough for the kids to do though, we did go out of season a bit, weather was excellent, not really a family hotel, entertainment was crap, but for the price we paid was worth it, as for the resort, shops shops and more shops, beach shingle, sea cold.

if u read some of the reviews like i did you will wonder what on earth you are going to end up at well take no notice aholiday is what you make it firstly when the coach drops you off there is huge hill to the hotel when you check in that is the last you see of the hill until you depart so dont worry the rooms are very clean and the beds arenot that comfortable towels changed daily ,some of the staff are friendly we found that there are alot of foreign peaple there eg french and german but they are not a problem because if u go peak season like we did there were alot of brits ,hotel is not noisy at night and there is anight watchman patroling at night ,pool isnot that big but we have 3 kids and they loved it beach short distance down road ,bar is a bit of a pain though only 1 adult drink at a time but u get used to that get your drinks lined up when bar is quiet ,food was super something for everyone no exuse to be hungry we went for aweek and they did a chinese night foood was brill ,entertainment not fantastic but you can get up and dance get in will agood crowd and you will be fine ,for what we paid very good value for money , would i go back no only because the world is a very big place and there are plenty of other hotels to try.

all inclusive drinks

May 2009, baz1885

We were dropped off at the bus stop a couple of hundred yards from the hotel, yes the hill was steeep but we needed a drink so we made it.There were four of us,all away for a 4 day break doing the usual [brass rubbings, church visits] and a couple of drinks. The hotel was clean, the food was acceptable although i wasn't going to try the snails that were on offer. The bar was large and airy, leading out to the pool area which was very clean and popular. We decided that as we were all inclusive we would have a few drinks at the hotel bar before heading down to the popular sea front Picadilly bar,the only problem was that the huge(and empty)bar was for paying customers and only and the last 3 feet which was roped off was for the A.I mob. This was not well run as the bar staff made no effort to keep the ever increasing queue from building. When we were eventually served we were given long thin plastic tubes which held about two mouthfulls of quite decent lager. We gave up with the queue at one point due to the time we were made to wait by the one member of staff who was taking his turn to serve.Going to the empty side of the bar we were immediately approached by the other member of staff who pointed at our wristbands and tried to direct us to the queue,we pulled out our euro's which brought out a huge smile from the barman who quickly presented us with large "glass" drinks. We tipped him and suddenly we were his new friends. The break was well worth the 200 quid we paid......

For the young single and cheap
2 / 10
May 2009, prints

The Sunrise Hotel in Lloret De Mar is a busy hotel and was filled with students when we went at the end of April 2009
We had to wait an hour for our transfer bus and it took us three hours to get there after leaving off the rest of the bus. The Resort Hopper driver pointed to the street where we had to walk the final journey on foot.
A small area of the bar is for all inclusive customers who get their drinks always in plastic tumblers while the rest of the bar is for paying customers who get their drinks in glasses and get waiter service. Only one drink per person is allowed so if you wish to get your partner a drink, or you drink beer and a short, you won’t be able to. When you both cue together don’t be surprised if your seat is taken when you return.
There were four or five bar staff on duty but only one was dealing with all inclusive customers at any one time. They rotate that person every ten or fifteen minutes. When the bar was closing even though there were twenty five people cueing only one bar man dealt with the cue.It was two minutes past eleven when we were refused a last drink even though we cued from ten to eleven. The last night we were there the cue got up to over fifty and finally two bar men dealt with the all inclusive customers.
On the morning we were leaving our contract with Sun4u said to vacate the room by 11:00am but we were challenged to pay for an hour because they got us to sign a photocopied piece of paper when we first arrived which said to be out be 10:00am. The lady at reception became pretty irate when I showed her the Sun4u contract.
The food was passable, the rooms basic, the swimming pool and surrounding area was nice.
This hotel is for the young single and cheap.

Great Hotel!!

Dont be put off by what bad reviews you may have read previously, we had a great holiday at the Sunrise.
Myself and my girlfriend stayed at the hotel
Value:
We paid £260 each for our holiday including transfer flights and an All Inclusive stay at the Sunrise. We certainly got our moneys worth at the hotel. We paid £15 extra each to have a superior room. Although we are not sure what the difference is from a normal room we thought it was worth the extra money.
Rooms:
Our superior room had Air Conditioning, which worked! A balcony, although we didnt have a great view, we didnt use it much as its All Inclusive, we were down at the bar and pool area most of the time enjoying the drinks! We had a twin room, but beds easily pushed together, and cleaners kept them like this. Bathroom was big, and very nice and clean, as was our room and all the hallways. Had a tele in the room, which had Sky News on. We didnt have any problems with the room what so ever. But I would advise the superior room if its only a small cost more.
Location:
Dont be put off by other reviewers moaning about the 'Hill'..really its not that bad. We were dropped off by our transfer coach at about 1am, the driver directed us to where we needed to go, and we pretty much found it, he directions werent the best, so make sure you get good directions. Its about a 5minute walk from where you are dropped off. You do not have to use the hill again, to access the beach you can use another way out of the hotel, and the beach is about a 3minute walk! The nearest shops are about 2minutes away. The hotel is not on the main strip of Lloret De Mar, but thats what makes it good, its about a 10minute walk from the main nightlife, but a couple of minutes away from the busy little pedestrian steets lined with lots of little shops.
Cleanliness:
Couldnt fault it! Rooms cleaned daily to a good standard, as well as the hallways etc. Restaurant was also cleaned before each meal time.
Food:
Breakfast:
Continental mainly, altho there was eggs, bacon, a lot of fruit, cereals, cakes, doughnuts, yoghurts.
Lunch: Could either get food from bar area (burgers, hot dogs), but we chose to eat in the restaurant. Good range of salad, fish , meat, chips, pasta. Was very impressed with the fish, although as many said, you dont always no what the meat is. Good range of desserts, ice cream, cakes, etc.
Tea: Very similar to Lunch, but with a few different options.
Overall the food was very good, it can get a little repetitive, but for what you are paying, you are certainly getting your moneys worth. We ate out a couple of evenings..nothing to do with the food, just for a change.
Drinks: 2 per person, San Miguel on tap, Sangria, Spirits , Fanta, Coke etc etc!
Check in/Front Desk:
Was alright. Most of the staff had a good grasp of English. Didnt have any problems with them.
Pool area/Bar, other amenities:
Pool was nice and clean..cold , but that was because it was October. Altho weather was very hot when we were there, between 22-25 each day. Pool isnt massive, but fine. There is an indoor heated pool, which is very nice. There is also a jacuzzi and a sauna. Bar area is nice, service is alright.
Entertainment:
The only let down of the hotel. One night there was a flamenco dancer, another a reptile show. But most nights was a disco, which was pretty poor. Although we werent too bothered about the entertainment if you have children it may not be suitable.
Overall a great hotel, and would good back!

We have just come back from a fantastic holiday at the Sunrise. My husband & I went with our 3 yr old daughter and simply can't understand all the negative reviews that we had read prior to departure. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the range of food fantastic, the level of cleanliness everywhere was outstanding and it was within minutes of the beach, clubs or wonderful little shops all along the little side roads. I guess I can concede that the pools could have been a bit warmer but that really was all I could fault. What I could complain about was the rudeness and ignorance of some of the guests we met who seemed to have gone on the wrong holiday (they obviously wanted blackpool!!) as everything was too 'foreign for them' even complaining that they didn't serve 'heinz' beans!! All I can say that if you are as rude to people as some we witnessed then you cannot expect to be treated any differently. We met some fantastic people over there but I'm afraid there were a few Brits that made a normally extremely patriotic couple almost ashamed to be British.

was supposed to stay in another hotel, and to be honest was glad we changed. hotel not the best in the world but staff very friendly food ok. the hotel is geared towards families as the entertainment is all for kids. however be aware of the partying germans. give them a bit of grief and they soon go away.
so overall as a familly of four we had a great time.
hope you enjoy

I start this review by pointing out...
7 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs S Little

I start this review by pointing out that 7/10 for my overall rating refers to the food alone. I was actually booked into another hotel but due to a major error in my booking by Sun 4 U we actually slept in the Santa Rosa Hotel and had to have our 'all inclusive' at the Sunrise.
We found the food was rather good, plenty of choice and perfectly edible- loved the breakfasts every day. Would have been helpful to have had labels on the cabinets but any fairly sensible person could work out what the dishes were!! Word of warning..the coffee from the pool bar hot drinks machine is disgusting so stick with tea.
Hotel reception staff were ok with me but I did overhear some conversations they had with other holidaymakers when they were rather curt and unhelpful.
Entertainment was a total letdown- virtually non existant unless you had a child at the minidisco or fancied getting battered in the pool volleyball. Highlights of the week...a performing parrot show and a reptile display- my son (aged 11) enjoyed both.
Sunbeds were always towelled up by 9.10am even though the hotel policy is no reserving of same. We actually went to the lovely beach down the road but for other Brits it was really annoying.
All-inclusive drinks could be ordered 2 at a time by the adults but get in the cue by 10.30pm or else the 'man in black' will turn you away thirsty & empy handed!!

8 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs J Grimshaw

We went for a girly 3 nighter to Lloret, and had a fabulous time at this hotel.
I'll admit it was a shock to be dropped off by the coach at the end of the road to the hotel and dragging the cases up a 1 in 2 hill was a drain on the system (made me realise how unfit i was!).....we had a disabled lady with us too, and we could have done with knowing about this prior to arriving. Next time i'd book a private transfer as this takes you to the door.
The staff are Spanish ...(as you'd expect in Spain) very pleasant and helpful and a little patience with their understanding of english proved to be invaluable.
The food was terrific....after all you are in Spain......the food should be spanish....there was always something that we liked to eat. Always plenty of it. Tables are allocated as you walk in the restaurant and we never had a problem seating all 7 of us together for meals. They dont like you to take big bags into the restaurant, presumably so you dont pinch the water bottles???...who knows....however, once we knew it wasn't a problem.
The bar was perfectly adequate. The drinks were being served 2 at a time, and the bar staff were wonderful...every time i went to the bar, I got a quick spanish lesson from a very patient man so that by the end of my 3 nights i could confidently order my drinks in spanish...woohooo!!!
The rooms were fine although after reading the other reviews, i think we must have had the cheaper rooms because we didn't have any air conditioning in our room. Rooms were clean and comfortable, but to be perfectly honest, who goes on holiday to stay in your room.......we certainly didn't spend much time in there apart from showering and a few hours sleep here and there.
The swimming pool was smaller than i thought, but perfectly fine...yes there were german lads around acting the goat....but a motherly clip round t'ear (not literally) soon sorted them out!...always managed to get sunbeds.
Considering what we paid for our holiday, I wasn't expecting much to be honest......we didn't expect the ritz.....but we were pleasantly surprised and would definately go there again but this time i'd make sure of the private transfers!
Our shared shuttle coach was picking us up at 7am!!!!!!! way before the hotel served breakfast but after I spoke to the lady at reception the day before departure, they organised some packed lunches for us to be ready for pickup on the morning we left......
overall the hotel was really good......we didnt pay a fortune for it and were pleasantly surprised........it was out of the immediate vicinity of the bigger noisy clubs but within easy walking distance when we did decide to go and paint the town red.
Would definately visit again.

This was a short break supposed to be...

Jul 2008, Mrs D Coultis

This was a short break supposed to be restful but it wasn't! All fine until we were dropped off by the transfer bus, the drive vaguely pointed to a side road and said 'hotel - she down there' and grumpily ushered us off the bus. Half an hour later we found the hotel, nowhere near where he said it was and checked in, greeted by indifferent staff. Some staff were very rude but this isn't suprising as most of the guests were german and french and did not know the word thankyou or please and made the pool and restaurant a really unpleasant experience. Some german lads took pleasure in spitting in the pool and jumping in on top of little kids, no lifeguard or staff intervened. Food was ok, room ok, lots of steps and a hill down to the beach so not suitable for those with mobility problems. Resort nice and beach too but very very crowded with fag ends everywhere. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone except people who don't mind dodging vomit on the lobby stairs and who enjoy being abused by other europeans. Waste of money and totally mis represented by the website. Tiny pool for large hotel. Looks great in photos but be warned! Don't get a room at the back of this hotel or you will be treated to the bins smell and kids trying to shoot stray cats with air guns. Sorry to be a negative reviewer but wish I'd known what this hotel was like before I booked it!

Oh My God this was the worst place...
3 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs L Mina

Oh My God this was the worst place ever. I have just returned after a week there bwith my husband and three kids. We booked through Sun4u on teletext and they should not be let off the hook here as they are totally incompetent an should be avoided at all costs as as soon as they have your money you are on your own. On being droppped off by Resort hoppa bus we had paid for we were droppped at the bottom of the hill with luggage and kids and pointed up hill to where hotel was. After making it to hotel we tried to check in and after waiting for about half hour we were old we did not have a reservation there and they had no room for us and they said they had told Sun4U that they had cancelled our resrvation. We were then passed the phone and told to sort it out with sun4U who blamed the hotel and told us to sit tight something would be sorted. We were then told by staff that they could give the 5 of us a room with two double beds for one night. Which at this point we gratefully accepted. We were not given all inclusive bands for drinks or food etc. The next morning we phoned sun4U are were told they were trying to sort somrthing out. Still had no bands no all inclusive all day. Eventually we were told "its okay we will let you stay in this hotel in that room". they were going to squash another single bed in but i asked for a cot for my 4 year old as we justed wanted to open our cases and get our bands. They offered no appology and were very abrupt and it was if they were doing you a favour. Then we eventually got settled in after two days of our holdiay wasted. The Germans arrived in their hoards around 50 teenagers aged between 16- 25 and they took over everything. The kids were forced to leave the pool as they threw each other through the air in the pool, kicked leather footballs into the pool and drank their beer in the pool. Girls kissed other girls in front of the kids etc and the were generally rude an obnoxious. They jumped every queue and joined the start of the bar queue where their friends were while evryone else queued. Over the week 9 other families arrived from Britian through Sun4U and were told they did not have a reservation and were moved to another hotel or aprtments for a couple of nights. Some had nop flights when they went to airport. Others had no transfers and had to get a taxi. This is not a hotel for families and Sun4U assured us it was . It is for Stag do's and German students. Be warned this for young riotous teenagers who are rowdly play music sing and shout all night as they rrive home from discos. You will not get a sleep here. The food was great and the location was great and if you are 18 wanting a wild time and dont mind rude Germans and Dutch it is for you. On arriving home you cannot contact sun4u and must write any complaints. surprise surprise. Avoid Aviod aviod.
