Myself and my partner stayed in the Thistle hotel on 21/10/06. We did not pick the Thistle hotel ourselves but were moved there as our previous hotel refused to honour our booking. I am very glad this happened. It may be a little out of the city centre (hence the 9 rating) but the staff and facilities were absolutely superb. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a break in this wonderful city. A tip: Take your swimming costume as the spa is excellent.

The outside is very shabby looking. The room was very small. The bed was like a brick, the keycard to enter the room had to be reprogrammed several times as it stopped working. The hair-dryer was broken as were the plug sockets. The stairs were very very dirty and not kept at all. New lights had been fitted in stair wells and mess hadn't been cleared up. The alarm was broken as was the tv remote. Peeling wallpaper along with damp and mould in corridors. Next to a railway track. Very poor value for money. Local things are within easy reach and town centre is less than 1 mile away. The only good thing about this hotel was the leisure facilities.
