Blood sweat and Stains
We stayed here for our anniversary and were first given a room at the rear of the hotel. On entering the room the first impression was drab, the sofa was faded and dirty and the carpets needed a good clean. The room was spacious enough and the bathroom huge but the over all impression was that it needed a good industrial clean which was what we informed the duty manager that night at 11.30 when we pulled back our bedding to find blood stains on the cover and what appeared to be either pizza or dried vomit on the centre of the blanket.<br... more
Quiet excellance
My wife and I staid at The Residence for our anniversary this year and were delighted. The staff were most discrete and polite, the service is very much in the background but better for that. Breakfast in your room was the absolute highlight! Not having to be dressed and down for a certain time was wonderful. The bathrobes and slippers provided were great. The building itself was lovely, our Grand Suite was everything we hoped for. There were a couple of frayed areas in the carpets at joints but otherwise the room was... more
Noisy, Textiles need an overhaul, Otherwise OK
Pros: Huge rooms, huge bathrooms, spotless bathroom, jacuzzi excellent after lots of walking (especially in winter - it was FREEZING in the wind, especially at the Castle), little or no street noise, within walking distance of Castle and shopping district, friendly and helpful staff (although a little too formal for my tastes), nice QUIET little refrigerator in the room, and I think there's a microwave too. Cons: My room had a lot of noise from within the hotel - I was in a below street level room and I could hear footsteps above me... more
Elegant
Beautiful, huge room. Breakfast served in our room. Elegant furnishings. No complaints except for a fire alarm on monday morning! Got to see firemen though,so not all bad!
Wonderful experience
The Edinburgh Residence is a lovely collection of townhouses. The suites are all different; our Grand Suites (we were two couples) were below entrance street level, but because the building is on a hill, we had beautiful city views. We had to walk down stairs; the old fashioned wire cage lift only went to higher floors. Our suites were huge though different, with nice living areas that included comfortables stuffed sofas and chairs as well as a good sized glass table for two in a bay window; great enormous bathrooms, fluffy terry robes... more
My two bits to the chorus
Just to add to the chorus of guest who loved this place. The neighborhood is gorgeous. The residence is absolutely charming. Our suite was enormous and we enjoyed the amenities like dvd player, stereo, well stocked refridgerator. We would definitely come back. Since everyone has to have something negative to be credible, the breakfast in the room was a bit unorganized, cold and not particularly tasty but this didn't detract from the friendly staff, beautiful bedroom, lovely sitting rooms and pretty neighborhood. It's a keeper!
Elegance in a Terrific Location
The person at the desk could not find my reservation. After assuring him that I did indeed have one, and that I had only just called the previous day to confirm my reservation, he finally, but very slowly, processed my check-in. That being said, my stay at the Edinburgh Residence was a most enjoyable one. It is a very stately building and feels more like someone's grand mansion rather than a hotel. It is located on Rothesay Terrace which is just a ten minute walk away from the busy West End of Edinburgh. The location is wonderful!... more
The Best
Stunning. Lovely Georgian building. Sumptuous decor and surroundings. Suites were amazing! Peaceful atmosphere, located surprisingly close to the city centre. Staff were kind, courteous, helpful and attentive. A great change from the usual big city centre hotels. Would love to go again!
Fantastic!
Great hotel I stayed in a grand suite. The hotel is as good as all the reviews and info on the web. I would not get to excited about the in room dining. The menu did not change in all the time we were there and since there are only about 3 dishes it seems a bit limited. Breakfast was late every day but we were warned at check-in that this could be the case due to the hotel being full. I have also stayed at the Hilton Caledonian and if it is a quiet high quality stay your are after the residence can't be beat. Enjoy!
