fabulous
we have just returned from staying at the Howard this weekend. I am known to complain at the slightest thing!! However on this occasion i had no complaints what so ever. We were upgraded to the Charlotte suite which is fantastic. The staff were exceptional and the restaurant food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The situation is ideal for shopping and nearby restaurants. All i can say is that it makes a nice change for an hotel to live up to my expectations. Special thanks to our waiter (sorry forgot his... more
Wedded bliss
My husband and I were married in Edinburgh in October 2006, and we stayed in the Howard over the week of our wedding. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. My husband is English and I live in New York City, and we arrived at the Howard less than 24 hours before a whirlwind wedding planned from opposite sides of the Atlantic. We were greeted at the door by our butler, who took our bags and whisked our wedding clothes away to be pressed for the next day. From champagne breakfast to rose petals on our pillows, the Howard staff... more
Very Good
As someone who uses this site so often to check hotels I felt it only appropriate to write a review on this fabulous hotel. We stayed for 2 nights (Fri/Sat) in December 06 and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home. The first thing we were greeted with was the hotel manager welcoming us and our butler quickly taking our bags from us to take to our room even offering to unpack. We declined the unpack but got all our clothes pressed which just took one more thing off our minds. We arrived relatively late on the Friday evening... more
The benchmark for all hotels.
Having just returned from a seven night stay at The Howard during December it gives me great pleasure to write a few words. From being shown to our room to paying the bill everything was a great pleasure. The location of the hotel is but a short stroll from Princess Street. Whilst the stroll unfortunately is up hill at least it gives you several chances to look at the many menus posted on the street by the resturants and gain breath. We ate out several times and the food was very good. The location of The Howard is quiet and... more
The Howard Way
My Mum and stayed at the Howard in Edinburgh last weekend and had a great time. We stayed in the Dundas room which is a standard twin with ensuite bathroom. The room was well decorated and spacious (although the view was a little drab - the car park at the back). The bathroom was gorgeous, all marble tiles, his and hers sinks, bath robes, slippers and beautiful Penhaligons toiletries. The best thing about this hotel however is the service. We made use of the Butler service which is free. They brought us Coffee and Tea any time... more
a little different than what we are used to...
We just returned from Scotland, having stayed at the Howard for Thanksgiving week. It was our first time in Scotland. Our party consisted of myself, my wife, our four year old, and our 6 month old. Overall, I give the Howard positive reviews. Some thoughts: It's definately a boutique hotel. It's small and intimate. I don't think the dining room could fit more than 15 guests. Breakfast was included, and well worth it. It was nice not having to sign anything or worry about a tip from breakfast to breakfast. (Same with room... more
Superb Hotel
Stayed at The Howard for three nights from 18th Nov 2006. The reason for stay was our honeymoon and we could not have been more pleased. Extremely well run with friendly and courteous staff. We stayed in the Abercromby suite which was stunning.Quiet location - yet only a short stroll in to the city centre. Food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this hotel and can't wait to visit again and try out one of the other suites.
The Whole Package
This is a well run and maintained hotel, providing first class service that is available from the butlers and staff 24/7. From the moment we arrived early on Sunday morning, straight off our flight from the US, we were well taken care of. Our room was spacious and comfortable. It was refreshed twice daily to exacting standards. During our stay we enjoyed a private Whisky Tasting that Ross, Guest Services Manager, arranged. The tasting was hosted by Ben, The Howard's Assistant Manager and local expert. He loved to share his knowledge and... more
Fantastic hotel
I have read a reviewer who called the Howard "tired" - well I couldn't disagree more - it may not come up to some of the more "sensitive" American standards however I found the Howard nothing less than understated luxury. The staff are fantastic and the surroundings very quiet. The rooms are very well laid out and have everything you could need for a business stay - and if you need anything else - the staff could not be more helpfull. Compared to the sterile surroundings of the Hilton, Sheraton or Marriot - bit like McDonalds... more
