Braid Hills Hotel

Booked the hotel for a short notice trip to Edinburgh for New Year. It was very reasonably priced for the time of year & our room was large, comfortable & clean. Pleased to have a choice of eating- in the hotel restaurant or in the less formal & cheaper brasserie a short step across the car park. All staff were very pleasant & helpful. We had a problem with heating/hot water on our last day & were offered the option of moving to another room or having an electric heater & using the bathroom of another room. Recently stayed at this hotel to attend a family party in Edinburgh. Upon arrival we were met by the rudest receptionist I have ever encountered, complete with sighing and banging the keyboard to make sure everyone knew she wasn't happy. Walked into our allocated room, can only be described as a shoebox, upgraded to a four poster which hadn't been cleaned. Summary: Tired hotel, awful service, generally very poor. Never again.

Have just returned from a two night stay this is the 2nd time of staying here having booked with late rooms. Stayed bed breakfast and evening meal the food was 1st class,excellent value. Had a lovely room with a good view. Staff very helpful. The is a bus stop outside the hotel which runs frequently to Edinburgh centre. Will be returning.

Spent the weekend here and the room had no heating/heating was not working. When we informed reception at 11 am, nobody came. When we rang again at 4 pm we were informed that they would get it fixed. At midnight when we again returned after dinner, we were challenged by the Operations Manageress who was surly and curt, informing us that we were wrong and that the heating was timed (and we just kept missing it)! An electric heater was then sent round, but obviously we didn't want to leave it on all night, for fear of starting a fire!<br... more

Staff rude and unhelpful. Rooms filthy. Overpriced. Never again! (Oh, and toast still only cooked on one side!!)

The room we were allocated, which looked pretty much like all the others was tiny, uncomfortable, except for a wardrobe with a single shelf there was no storage space, no table, no chairs, and had peeling wallpaper and scratched and chipped woodwork. The bathroom was not particularly clean, and the extractor vent had accumulated years of dust. The beds were reasonably soft and comfortable. We were woken at 6.a.m every morning by deliveries, and a strange, unidentifiable very loud mechanical noise emanating from an adjacent stairway.<br... more

We have stayed in this hotel December 2001 to celebrate New Year's Eve (Hogmanay), and July 2003 again after a hiking holiday in the Scotish Highlands. Both time we enjoyed staying in the hotel very much and definately would go their again during our next visit to Edinburgh. The house is a big, about 100 years old building, lying on a hill, some 6-7 metres above the surounding area. It is recently renovated and looks perfect.
