My Husband proposed to me at prestonfield in August 2006. I decided to return to the hotel to actually stay this time for my Husband's 30th. We were slightly worried that our little bubble may be burst as the proposal evening had been so spectacular. However we weren't... more

Incredible experience
I am a wolrd traveler and I have never had a more exciting New Years or Hogmanay celebration. The staff is fun and incredibly helpful and dare I say extremely attractive. Also, the rooms are awesome with great ammenity/toiletry kits and definitely make you feel special. Very romantic, quintessential Scotland.
Gorgeous Hotel
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Prestonfield with my girlfriend. The short break was booked just to get away and the hotel didn't disappoint. It lives up to what it is billed as - a wondrously extravagant country house. We stayed in one of the suites which was slightly compact I must say but as we had a bedroom and a living room this wasn't really an issue. There wasn't much space around the bed but it was a rather exquisite four poster affair. The decoration was gorgeous - as succulently oppulent as I was lead to believe. All the staff were very friendly and committed to service. Admittedly they could be seen as slightly over bearing as some reviews state, but if you hide away in one of the many public rooms and only come out when you need something they don't bother you. We didn't eat at the Rhubarb as it wasn't our thing, but had other food within the hotel from a different menu which was simple but still delicious. All in all I can't see anything wrong with this hotel at all - I loved it. Perhaps the £300/night price tag isn't as worthy as some hotels I've stayed in elsewhere in the U.K but it was lovely and I don't see this as a massive flaw.
ok room lovely restauraunt
ok, not great. lovely food, nice views(minus the 2 tower blocks in the ditsnce) bathrooms looked straight out of mfi/ikea. staff a bit in your face helpful. make sure you dont get put near the bins/tradesmens entrance or you will be disturbed by reversing vans and not able to open the curtains unless you want to be gawped at. shame coz the view of arthurs seat is pretty.
Pure indulgence
Having been given a one nights stay at Prestonfield as a wedding present we decided to stay there on Sunday 19th November & had a fanatastic time. From the moment we arrived we were well & truly looked after. We stayed in the Franklin suite which was pure heaven!!!! The suite was spacious with bedroom, living room & two bathrooms!!! Decor was beautiful & facilities superb. The champagne & chocolate pots awaiting our arrival just made it so special. Attention to detail was just second to none, after having been out for the evening we returned to find the room had been straightened, bed covers turned back & slippers laid out. After having a very comfortable nights sleep we headed to the restaurant for breakfast. Again we were not disappointed, service, presentation & quality of food was first class. The only disappointing thing was that as we were only there for one night, our stay had come to an end. The hotel is set in great surroundings, where else do you see peacocks on the lawn whilst you are enjoying breakfast!!! It's location is ideal, away from the hustle & bustle of the city centre but still within easy reach of it. The staff are fantastic, they are fully committed to providing the best possible service, they are a credit to Prestonfield!! This was our first stay at Prestonfield but it definately won't be our last!!!!!!
Disappointed
Very stylish hotel, helpful staff, average food. Just make sure you don't get room 11 and its tiny sagging bed. They advertise it as a standard room on their website, but charge it as a large luxury. Style over substance.
Fantastic
My husband and I have just returned from our honeymoon. We started our tour of Scotland with a two night stay in Prestonfield and we are so glad we did. The hotel was fantastic. We had the Ramsay suite which is situated just past reception and has a bedroom, lounge and two bathrooms. There was also a bottle of Champagne waiting for us on arrival. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was great. We will definately return in the future.
Not a great value
We decided to splurge on the Prestonfield after 10 glorious days in England. We had been spending about 80-120 pounds sterling in England and had been getting amazing accomodations. When our taxi dropped us off at the Prestonfield, we were immediately hit with the "overkill" by the staff. We walked from the taxi to the front desk and were asked "hello, how are you?" atleast 5 times on the way there. It was just too much. We had been on a train all day and frankly, were just looking forward to getting to our room and relaxing. The hotel is incredible - the furnishings, fabrics, lighting, etc but the room was actually a disappointment. The configuration of the room felt like a Holiday Inn..... walk in... bathroom on your right ... closet on the left and then the bedroom. Very typical and not a lot of character. The furnishings in the room were incredible but the room was dark & stuffy. Our bed was small, uncomfortable and creaked so much I could not sleep. There was a half eaten candy bar in our mini bar which I thought showed no attention to detail. We could not leave our room without being attacked by every staff member... "How is your stay?" "How are you?" "Are you enjoying yourself" "Can I get you anything?" etc. It was just too much and it made us dread walking down the hall or leaving our room. I also thought the neighborhood & location of the hotel was a real drawback. You cannot walk anywhere and for 250 pounds sterling/night, I would like to either be in a nice neighborhood or be able to walk into town.
Country Manor with humor
What a beautiful and friendly place to stay! We were met by doormen wearing kilts and big smiles. Everyone seemed happy you were there, and there wasn't a request that couldn't be handled. The manor itself has been decorated with all the beautiful draperies and furniture you would expect, but there is also the element of fun in the accesories(arms holding the hallway light fixtures). The colors are bold deep reds, eggplant , black and gold. Some of the common area furniture is a bit worn--but so comfortable. The rooms are spacious--with great bathrooms. Champagne and a wonderful chocolate dessert await you in your room when you check in, and the "turn down" service is perfect! Breakfast was included and could be eaten in the dining room, or delivered at no extra charge to your room. After years of thinking he hated porridge--my husband became a convert:). The grounds are very nice with a stable, which is used for large functions, and a garden shed(gazebo). I can't say enough about the staff--the concierge even let me use her computer! The hotel may be a bit pricey--but the experience was worth it--what a memory!
Fantastic
Really loved our three night stay stay here. We had the Franklin Suite (£295 per night). This was situated just past reception and had an entrance hall, bedroom, living room and two bathrooms. The decor was way over the top and the room well appointed. The staff were utterly committed to making guests happy - you couldnt pass one in the corridor without them asking if everything was alright and was there anything we wanted. We ate in the restaurant on the first night. Its actually two oval rooms separated by the main corridor. They are traditionally furnished and luxurious. The food was great - good portions and nicely presented. The wine list was extensive and the wine waiter appeared to know every wine and gave good advice. We also booked into Tower restaurant in town (under the same ownership) but wish we hadn`t as the hotel food was much more to our liking. Breakfast was well organised- with Eggs Benedict being done to perfection and the full breakfast really being too much. Taxis invariably only took 5 minutes to come having ordered them via the concierge, although the hotel is quite a way from the centre (I wouldn`t have wanted to walk it). I would certainly stay here again and after the wonderful time we had it seems silly to niggle but we were there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and on the last two the place was very busy with weddings - giving a very different character to the relaxing atmosphere we had enjoyed on the first night. I`d recommend finding out what`s on if you want a truly relaxing time. Lastly, when you look carefully the paintwork is knocked and looking tired in a lot of places. The overall effect is stunning but on closer inspection it does need some work. We discovered they do special offers in the New Year and hope to return. One stay was definitely not enough.
