Perfect Hotel Experience
Was very worried about booking here after reading some of the double-booking horror stories but this proved to be one of the best places we've ever stayed in. We got a great room at the front of the hotel with a good view of the city (no castle but a good view nonetheless). The room was on the smallish side but was clean and very comfortable. Staff were friendly - we had a good chat to the barman in the six nations bar who made us one of the best gin and tonics we've ever had. Breakfast was huge and there was plenty on offer. <br... more
Marvelous hotel
Although my travel agent made a bargain deal with the hotel and we paid less than the average price, I would recommend this place to anyone. The location is ideal, quiet but not far from the city centre, rooms and facilities were spotless and the staff was very helpful, polite and accomodating. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, the food was very good and well, what else can I say?
Not enough rooms
This may well be a lovely hotel but I wouldn't know because as with earlier visitors to the hotel (see earlier reviews) I was unable to stay here because they had overbooked themselves. We ended up in the worst dump in Edinburgh and still paying the price for this supposed "nice" hotel. If it ever happens to you, make sure you kick up a stink and get to stay! Do not allow yourself to be moved to grottsville!
chrsitmas 2004
On reading some of the reports was not sure what really to expect. I took the plunge and wow was I glad I did. Arrived early evening christmas eve and was welcomed like an old friend on my first visit!! Two single rooms were very adequate and were spotlessly clean and had all facilities required. even views of the snow capped mountains to add Dinner was excellent with good choice of courses. Christmas dinner was superb and mouthwatering and yes i did manage to finish all courses. i cannot praise the staff enough.all... more
very nice indeed
We stayed in Greens Hotel mid-November 2004. The staff was very nice and helpful and the room more than met our (modest) needs. Don't come here if you want a five-star treatment or if you are used to luxurious surroundings, but if you want an excellent stay in a friendly environment when visiting Edinburgh, then this ideally located hotel is a no-miss.
Fantastic City, great hotel
Just returned from a 2 night break at Greens Hotel, Edinburgh. Was a little apprehensive after reading some less than perfect reviews on this site but my husband had already booked it. I rang the hotel to let them know my feelings. I need not have worried as we were given a good sized room overlooking the crescent to the front (room 110). Paintwork could do with a touch up but generally we felt we had a good deal. The dining room has been refurbished, lovely setting and the buffet breakfast was excellent. Nicely cooked and polite,... more
Annoying
The basic problem with this hotel is that they are booking more customers than they can manage. When my toilet stopped flushing, it turned out that they had no maintenance worker either working or on call for the entire weekend. (The receptionist had assured me on Sunday morning that she was going to call the maintenance guy.) This is for a hotel with, I believe, 55 rooms. They promised they would try to change me to another room if possible, but at the same time, they were sending overbooked customers to another hotel. The employees... more
Large rooms, but very economical
We stayed at the Green's Hotel in October 2002, and found the room to be larger than we expected. Having stayed at many hotels in Britain in 2001 and 2002, this was one of the largest rooms I had enjoyed, even though our view was of the neighbours' back doors. And the bathroom was large as well, with a large tub. The staff was very friendly and efficient, and the breakfast was wonderful. A cold buffet and then you could order almost anything you wanted from the kitchen. The only negative was that they supply dinners for bus tours, so if you... more
Basic hotel
The bedroom was adequate but perhaps a little redecoration is required. On the first evening we booked a meal in the restaurant but we were very dissapointed in the quality as it was very expensive and if fact had to return one meal to the kitchen as it was inedable and it ruined our evening. The breakfast on the first morning was fine but had decreased in quanity on the second morning much to my husbands dismay. To conclude, Greens looks like good value for money but in fact it is not.
good hotel
because it was on of the lowest priced hotels in the travel brochures I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel looked nice, friendly staff and hte breakfast wasn't just schottisch but it was actually more as an buffet style for cold food and then you could order more if you wanted.
