Not that bad
Overall it was a good stay but I agree with some of the negatives of the previous review. Here were our negatives: -------------------------------- Booked for a 3 night stay from 21/4/2006 to 24/4/2006. On check in my wife and I were given a twin room but they soon changed it to a double. As the previous review we were given two single quilts which was not ideal but we tolerated it! However as this is a character property the windows were large and there was no a/c and as the sun came out(it occasionally does this in... more
Disappointing
We stayed at the Bonham for a weekend after a recommendation from someone who uses it regularly for business. The room was fine although a little small and tired and being over the front door, very noisy at night. The service and food, however, were a problem. On the first morning I was served badly burnt toast which someone had noticed and tried to scrape! It was taken away but never replaced. In the evening we ate at the hotel. The menu had such a limited choice we were hard pressed to find any combination we liked. When the food arrived... more
Not worth the money!
My partner and I ended up in this hotel after booking a 'mystery' four star hotel in Edinburgh on lastminute. On a budget, we were pleased that the room included breakfast - however, in the morning there was a buffet including bread rolls and yoghurt - but you have to pay an astounding £11.50 for a cooked breakfast which in most hotels is included in the room price (which we paid a hefty £100 per night for - a special rate - normally it's even more). The car park was a shambles with people double parked left right and centre and more... more
Not as bad as people make it out
I took my wife to The Bonham at the end of March and I have to say could find very little to criticise about. At £230 a night for a superior room it wasn't cheap but for that we got dinner on the friday night which was superb, and top price tickets for Mamma Mia! (fab show) plus breakfast both days. Room was OK, pillows were awful though (my one criticism!) but bathrooms were huge. Lovely location and very quiet. At these prices it doesn't attract the dozens of stag/hen parties that descend on edinburgh at weekends. Would i stay there... more
Not worth the price....
The only good points about this hotel are the location and the size of the rooms. However, the furniture and decor is pretty poor and the service and breakfast were awful. Room service and dining room breakfasts were both a disaster. We got the wrong things on room service, and what did arrive wasn't great. In the dining room there seemed to be a woeful lack of staff so items ran out on the buffet and weren't replaced, nobody took tea/coffee orders and at one point there was even no cutlery! To top it off when we mentioned on check-out... more
Loved It
We had such a nice stay. I am surprised by the negative reviews! The staff was so friendly and accommodating - very welcoming and helpful. Our room was very nice and the view was just gorgeous. We had breakfast in the room and it was really pleasant. We loved our visit and will stay their again.
A Wonderful Hotel!!
My partner and I stayed at The Bonham in February for a long weekend. It was a lovely stay and everything about the hotel was brilliant! The staff were extremly friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Both the breakfast and dinner were delicious and the serice great! The decor was lovely and the cleanliness of the hotel/room was at a very high standard! I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Edinburgh who wishes to have a wonderful and pleasent experience! 5/5!
A Perfect City Break
Firstly, Edinburgh is such a great city. And the Bonham (and restaurant) is a true asset to the city. Our stay was undoubtedly one of the best hotel experiences we have had in the UK. The staff are great and really helpful. It's an informal atmosphere -- everyone is really friendly and not too stuffy. And the location of the Bonham is right in the city centre, yet in quite and lovely surroundings. The room was great -- overlooking the front gardens. The bed was very comfortable and the atmosphere of the room was both modern and... more
a ruined weekend
I would not recommend this hotel - we booked a luxury break and ended up in a freezing cold basement room - so much for the views over Edinburgh we could only see a pavement. Also the staff were not particularly friendly. All in all it was a dissapointing holiday and not my idea of a luxury hotel. I also agree with other comments that the cleanliness was not up to standard.
ignore the other reviews, one of the best hotels ever stayed in
Stayed at The Bonham at the beginning of January and was a little apprehensive because of the initial reviews. I am a seasoned traveller and know good hotels as I spend half my life in them as my work involves a lot of travelling. I neednt have been concerned as as soon as we arrived, theses worries were set aside. When we checked in, the reception staff were wonderful and very efficent, it seemed that nothing would be too much trouble. The room itself was beautiful, modern yet with a classic edge and the facilities were great.... more
