Great value & location!
excellent location - off the beaten tourist path, but close to high street and waverly station - 15 min walk or less to the station or princes street - a pleasant walk. quiet area - very quiet. great view on 4th floor. front desk folks are cool. no idea about breakie as i was never up in time so i can't comment. no lift / elevator - but hey we all need the exercise don't we? some people would struggle to get their bags up to the fourth floor i would suspect. double bed room is a great size with a decent bed, wardrobe, desk and night... more
Felt like I was at a University Dorm
The front desk is very unhelpful. The room is very squishy. The shower sprays water everywhere and soaks everything. On our first morning there we had no hot water. The guy at front desk was very prompt to have us shower in another available room. It took a while before someone came to fix it. The breakfast is a room outside of the building. We felt like we were students at a university dormitory. We also went on a very dodgy Loch Ness tour while we were here so research the tour carefully. Try and get to Edinburgh during the Festival. We... more
Just ok
We have just returned from Edinburgh. This B&B (rather than a hotel) is very clean, but noisy. The location is great, breakfast was good enough. They change towels everyday if you let them know to do so. The sink in the bathroom is very small and not very friendly to use, but overall is ok (no problem with hot water which was mine main fear!). It was fairly warm in the room, but you cannot control the temperature. The only con was that it was pretty noisy. People would get back to their room at 2 pm and you can totally hear everybody talking... more
Good, clean & basic
The hotel is used during term time for visitors to the University of Edinburgh. It is basic but clean and comfortable. The access to all floors is by a single stair well with no lift, which may be a problem for less mobile guests, especially if your room is on the 4th floor. We had a two night stay during the busy festival and military tattoo period and were pleased to find the hotel in a quiet backwater away from the bustle and noise of the central area. The locality is a little tatty and the student area of the City. The rooms are... more
Upmarket backpacker accomodation.
We caught the train from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. We got to Edinburgh at 2100 and then walked to the hotel. Note: there is a big hill that you need to walk up if you plan to do this. I'll start by saying that compared to Australian hotel standards, this was expensive for what you got, but hotels in the UK are generally a lot more expensive than those in Australia. Be warned that this hotel is part of The University of Edinburgh, we stayed on a weekend during the university holidays, so there weren't many students around, so... more
Just OK
Let´s put it this way: you get what you pay (do not expect anything fancy at all). Bathroom is tiny and the shower is really weird. There is no elevator, so if you have big bags you will have some problems. Pros: room is small, but clean and comfortable; breakfast is very good; the hotel is well located, just a few blocks from the royal mile, the castle, and the train station. If you are on a budget, this may be a good choice. If you are not, try somewhere else.
Very comfortable and clean
The rooms are used as dorms during the school year, so the rooms are big and clean. I stayed here for one night in 2005. Edinburgh is a beautiful city! The hotel is located off a side street in central Edinburgh, a short walk from the train station. The staff was friendly, and my room was enormous. The room included TV, a large desk, comfortable bed and linens. Traditional Scottish breakfast is served. An excellent stay.
Perfect for a place to crash
7-10 min walk to Princes Street, even less to Waverley Station and Royal Mile. Perfect place to crash. En Suite room, telephone, TV and a double bed. What more do you need? Staff were very friendly and cooperative.
Good for the price
Ideally situated, only about a 10 minute walk from the Royal Mile. Room was a little on the small side, but quiet, clean and a nice comfortable bed. The shower's a bit weird (no shower tray, just a drain in the corner of the room !), but it was hot and plenty of pressure. Also, great Scottish breakfast provided. All in all, fine for a short stay - however, really no longer than a couple of nights.
