Thistle Edinburgh Hotel

After flying into Edinburgh Airport for a long weekend, we caught the shuttle bus to the city centre (£5 return) and were told it was only a two minute walk from the Waverley Station. Super executive room awaited us with everything we could have expected. Decor a little tired but they are undergoing a refurbishment. Just returned from rugby weekend - staff friendly and helpful, sorted minor problem with booking no fuss and offered lowest rate. Good breakfast - buffet style at weekend no shortage, delays. Kippers & haddock to order - very good. Link to shopping mall and within easy walking distance of city centre. Very enjoyable experience in late bar - irish folk singing and welsh rugby, perfect mix. Rooms comfortable & well furnished, ceiling fans, responsive heating, nice toiletries. Definitely return when in edinburgh again.

We spent 3 nights at the Thistle in Edinburgh (in Leith St) in Oct 2007. The rooms were very spacious and clean with typical red/blue thistle decor. We even had separate living area with sofa(bed), armchair and tv. Bed was very comfortable. We ate breakfast at the hotel twice - they had a very good selection and hot food was cooked to order during week days. We have just returned from a long weekend at the Thistle Edinburgh. This hotel is in a great location, just off bustling Princes Street and minutes away from all the city attractions. For those who love shopping, you can access one of the many shopping centres from the hotel's third floor. Paradise for shopalcoholics!!! Stayed here for two nights while on a Globus tour and we absolutely loved the location. We were within walking distance of everything. We had a triple and got this wonderful two bedroom suite. The most room we had on our whole trip. The rooms were clean, spacious but a bit stuffy and noisy when we had the windows open late at night. From the outside you would think that you were entering an office block, but you really must enter!!!! dont be put off!!!! The staff are wonderful - extremely helpful and freindly. I booked direct with the hotel and spoke to Frances, she was amazing!! I felt like I had known her for years. She was a true professional catering for myseld and my wifes needs. Stayed with a group for a rugby weekend. Its a big modern hotel sort of soleless none the less we had a pleasant stay. Staff helpful

I booked the Thistle hotel on laterooms.com for 25 June a few weeks in advance. Two weeks before my reservation I telephoned the hotel to confirm that a twin room had been reserved (previous reviewers had trouble obtaining the type of room they had booked). I advised them that my companion and myself woud not be arriving until approx. 8pm. There are two or three Thistle Hotels in Edinburgh. This one is located on Leith Street. We booked a "Family Room" which consisted of a double bed, a sitting area, and a separate area which held bunk beds. It was very spacious and quiet, being located in the rear of the hotel. While the furnishings weren't charming or luxurious, they were attractive, clean and fresh. We had plenty of room to spread out, even with two adults and two teens.
