enjoyable hospitality and great food
from mrgrumpyUk
My wife and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary treat and enjoyed every minute. We booked last minute on the hotel website, dinner, bed and breakfast, very reasonable price. The Hoyel was very easy to find and on our arrival we were met and dealt with politely and efficiently and ascended to the 4th floor by via the antiquated lift, may be slow, but fun. Our room was one of the superior ones, king-size bed, which was very comfy, and a veiw over the town to the hills. We had a couple of drinks in the bar, real ale, served well, before freshening up for dinner. The Courtyard Bistro was a revelation, superb food, good service, in a lovely setting. Food was spot on and fresh, prices good as well. Breakfast next morning was "buffet style" served in the same room. Lots of choices, both hot and cold, really set you up for the day. Will definitely be back.
nice beds very poor bathroom
from charlieIlkeston
we stayed 2 nights the bed was the best we had on the whole trip but the bathroom was very poor a large bit of the bath had been broken off and glued back on the shower door leaked the suite was grey but the toilet seat and lid were a cheap white plastic not what we expected from a best western
Great location

Had a 2 night stay while in Dumfries for a wedding. Hotel was welcoming and extremly comfortable. Stayed in a superior room and got a four poster. Room was nicely decorated and had plenty of space. The only downside would be the bathroom. Although cleanliness was not an issue it was a little tired and dated. Friends were joining us for a pre wedding dinner and the hotel organised a seperate room and menu for us. Food and service was grea. The lounge bar was also a little dated, that can be seen from the hotels website, which is in stark contrast to the lovely bistro. Breakfast was served her by some very helpful waitresses. Some of the staff in the hotel were very young and lacked in experience. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.
A pleasant weekend stay

We spent two nights in the Station Hotel. Our room was comfortable and clean. The only downside to the accommodation was poor soundproofing and very squeaky floorboards. All staff - at reception, bar, dining and breakfast - were unfailingly pleasant , friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the Courtyard Bistro restaurant both nights and food and service were very good. Breakfasts were also very good with a good range of cereals, fruit, juices and cooked items. The hotel is well-situated directly opposite the railway station and there is adequate car parking which is free to residents.
A warm, warm welcome

We needed to have an overnight stop on the way to Ireland and chose this hotel completely by chance. What a pleasant surprise. From the moment we entered the hotel until we left next morning, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was very clean and the beds looked and felt as though they had new linen on them. The food was very good and they even got us a very early breakfast in the bedroom so that we did not have to leave at an early hour without any refreshment. We will certainly use it again.
homely venue for excellent value at a level of service to be proud of.

Having just returned from a 3 night stay at the station hotel I think that I should share my feelings and thoughts on this superbly run hotel . I am a frequent traveller to Dumfries and have only just discovered this hotel. The moment we arrived we were greeted by a warm and friendly receptionist who answered all our queries extremely professionally. We were shown to our rooms which were spacious spotlessly clean and very comfortable . Later on that evening we decided to have a relaxing drink at the well stocked and comfortable bar before heading off to the centre of the town which was only a 5 min walk away. After a good nights rest and a few to many to drink the evening before, we were ready for our breakfast which proved to be better than we could have hoped, with a good choice of fruits, cereals, followed by a full hearty Scottish. The lunch and evening menu had a good variation of choice ranging from bar snacks to ala carte which was very reasonably priced (Check their 3 course specials for a tenner -waw!). The Courtyard restaurant itself has a warm friendly atmosphere, The meal itself was a gastronomic delight, presentation was excellent and service was first class. As I am sure you can already tell I was delighted with everything the hotel could offer me over the 4 days and would like to thank the Management and all the staff for making our stay a thoroughly enjoyable one and would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone . I will look forward to staying at this hotel in the near future. One very satisfied Welsh customer Garry Lewis
Spacious Victorian Hotel, thoroughly updated
from Richard52
We stayed here as part of a group of archaeologists for 5 nights. The hotel was built in the 1890s, and has a spacious feel. Our room was clean and everything worked. We took breakfast and dinner as a group in the basement restaurant; I think we had a special group menu for dinner. The food was a lot better than it might have been, although there was a slight tendency towards 'meat & 2 veg". There is a presentable wine list, which offers good value by UK standards. Service was fast, efficient and friendly.
Break in SW Scotland
from tony1234
Spent a couple of nights here whilst having a short break in SW Scotland. Hotel is, as might be expected is next to the rail station and about 5 mins from the town centre. Road works made it a touch difficult to find. It is an older hotel which means that rooms are of non standard dimensions and ceilings can come into head banging range. the lounge bar and restauarant are all nicely set out. Breakfast was buffet style and the bacon was inclined to run out. Choice and quality of food was good. we did not have the dinner but others reported it to be good.
Nice place

I stayed at the Station Hotel in Dumfries for work in July 2007. I had planned to stay for 3 weeks but my work let me down and I ended up staying 2 nights in one week, and sadly not 2 nights together. The staff were great about this and I checked in sunday night and checked out monday morning, only to return on wednesday and check out thursday again. The Hotel seemed very quiet considering it was July and I was slightly concerned that one of the first questions asked on arrival was 'Do you require dinne this evening?' The staff were polite and helpful. The breakfasts were served down in the 'Bistro' and the food was fine and cooked to order so better get down early as you have a wait. Even when the place is quiet there is a deffinate slowness to the service. The beer garden/grounds are very nice and I could imagine sitting out next the water feature sipping my pint! I had a nice room over the Station itself and was worried about the noise from trains and the carpark but nothing occured. There was a slight noise from the room next door watching TV, I think it came through the adjoining door. All in all I liked the Station Hotel and was sorry I didn't get a longer stay there - maybe next time.
Traditional comfort with moden facilities
from Clibil
I have started using this hotel regularly when travelling to Dumfries. I keep going back there because I always find the experience warm and friendly. The staff work very hard to ensure that from the moment you check in, your stay is relaxing and hassle free. The rooms are well furnished with 4-poster beds and jacuzzi baths available. Being literally 20 steps from the station makes it easy for the rail traveller while there is parking for residents right outside for the driver. The Bistro restaurant is freshly furnished and decorated and the menu is always impossible to make a choice from - such are the variety of dishes to choose from. A stay of more than 2 days will be very bad for the waistline, especially given the size of the always-hot cooked breakfast. I assure readers that I am not in the pay of this hotel - I simply wish to share one the best experiences I have enjoyed for a while with others.

Absolute rubbish. Food was bad and the service put me straight off. Also the town Dumfries was quite poor with not a lot to do. The room that I stayed in was O.K that was probably the best thing about the holiday to the Station Hotel. Wouldn't go there again unless you paid... more
