HETLAND HALL, DUMFRIES

With referance to Samantha'sF985 review on Hetland Hall what she was saying was true about the change of hands and that the place had been left to run down a bit and the worry of her wedding taking place was a big issue, but can i just say that we had a wedding there on 29/10/11 and what a fab day it was.
Yes when my sister in law turned up a few days before hand she was greated with a less then pleasent sight, dirt, dust and smelling as if the place needed a good airing but Jan the owner did explain about the trouble's they were having and she would make sure her day would be ok. The staff worked hard to clean the place and got things in order.
The wedding day was purfect. Eveyone had a great day. Food was lovely and hot with fast table service. No complaints at all.
The rooms I agree do need some work doing to them and if they are done as well as the few that have been completed then it will be a goog place to stay. The honeymoon room was fab.
To other brides to be hope your day is as good as my sister in laws.

Arrival - The hotel is easy to find...

Feb 2007, Miss L Ash

Arrival - The hotel is easy to find and located just off a main road which is clearly signposted. We stayed at this hotel for a wedding at a cost of £75 per night for 2 adults on a bed and breakfast basis.
The greeting from reception was friendly, though is located right by the front door which made it feel very cold. The tiled floor and dated look probably made it feel slightly colder than what it was.
Hetland Hall Hotel looks very nice from the outside and looks like a very large and attractive stately home. We were able to check in early with no problems and our room was easy to find.
We couldn’t find a lift so we did have to carry our luggage upstairs. We stayed in the 'newer' part of the hotel. It is described as newer though is probably about 75 years old and I felt like I was on holiday in my old school. The tiled floors, smell, wooden banister, large hall all gives it the impression of an old school rather than a hotel.
Rooms - The room was of a nice size though it was very dated. No nice modern decor or modern amenities. The television looked very old and kept turning itself on and off the whole time we there.
The reception did mention that the hotel was supposedly haunted and put the problems we had down to ghosts!!
There was a nice view from the room over the countryside and there was a large dressing table area which was ideal for getting ready for the wedding.
There is no minibar or fridge facilities, but we were aware of this beforehand so had taken a portable fridge and some drinks with us, as there was not much choice in the hotel and the nearest shop is miles away.
The bathroom is very dated but it was clean and the shower was good enough to provide a nice refreshing shower. Internet access is also available for a charge but we had problems connecting so gave up in the end.
Facilities - There is a gym with plenty of equipment although much of it is very old and I wouldn’t really trust its reliability. The swimming pool on the other hand is very nice, of a good size and the water is kept nice and warm.
There are showering facilities and a sauna by the swimming pool also along with a seating area for those not wishing to swim. You need to collect a key from reception to use the pool and sign in and it is not supervised so you will need to keep a close eye on any children.
Food - The hotel does offer a nice menu and we had a lovely meal the night before the wedding.
Everyone we were dining with appeared to enjoy their meal, however the buffet for the wedding was a different story and guest were presented with nothing more than a pile of stale sandwiches. Not very nice at all!
Overall - Would not recommend this hotel to families as there is nothing nearby to keep you entertained.
If you are looking for a quiet retreat for no longer than a couple of days then this may suit you as long as you don’t like your modern conveniences.
I would not stay at this hotel again.
