Swallow Argyll Hotel

This hotel has a perfect position as one arrives in Inveraray from Glasgow by road. We were using this to break a long journey and asked for a quiet room so we could get a good night's sleep. The helpful staff gave us a room at the back that was indeed very quiet. I doubt that the rooms at the front would have been very noisy anyway, and if you are coming here as a tourist, the view over the loch from the front must be pretty good. We were married at this hotel in July 2006 and can truely say that the hotel was excellent in all respects from start to finish. In the run up to our wedding the staff were extremely helpful in catering for our needs and gave their advice freely. On the weekend itself the service was excellent, the food and drink of a high quality and the rooms clean and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel for its quality and superb location in the beaufiful village of Inveraray.

Just returned from a two night break at The Swallow Argyll Hotel. First impressions of the reception a bit disappointing but the room with views looking over Loch Fyne and the central location of the hotel soon made up for this. The breakfast was very enjoyable with a good choice of courses. Evening meal in the dining room was adequate although service could be a little slow so perhaps the bar menu would be more suited to those with an appetite. Very impressed with this hotel. Superb view of the Loch with Loch view rooms (available at a small supplement but certainly worth it) staff most accomodating, rooms comfortable, location excellent, and in general a good two night stay. Breakfast was a meal to be looked forward to ....as far as evening meals, we had a bar meal one evening which could not be faulted. No other meals taken in the hotel. No lifts might be a problem for some but since the hotel only has two floors, it presented no problems to a party of 4 all over 60. Definetely... more

We stayed at this hotel for one night as part of a trip round the Highlands. We have stayed in Inveraray before but stayed at the Loch Fine hotel, this was our first time in the Argyll. The location of the hotel could not be more convenient being right in the town centre. There is free parking at the front of the hotel. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. my wife and I stayed at the Argyll Easter 2006. My confusion having read the reviews of the Swallow and the Best Western was answered when we learnt that the Argyll was Best Western until August 2005. Booked through laterooms for superior room but soon learnt that this means nothing more than front facing. Views over the loch are great although windows are small. Inveraray is a lovely town but The Argyll Hotel was an expensive disappointment - we found the staff dismissive and unprofessional, and generally our room was dirtier than we would expect from a four-star. It certainly hadn't been vacuumed. I would say terrible!!

Luckily we were only there for a little while, but the "luxurious, modern" bedrooms tag on the outside of the hotel is a serious over-exaggeration. The staff were ok, but the average age of the other guests was 96 and they clearly cater for unfussy coach parties. Despite this, there was no lift, and the stairs were littered with auld ones taking a rest before braving the rest of the journey to their rooms or down to reception. PLEASE DO NOT STAY WITH THE ARGYLL HOTEL. In fact, please think twice before staying at ANY Best Western. In July, my husband & I spent two weeks touring Scotland for our Honeymoon. Of the 15 different locations we stayed, the only problems we had were at Best Westerns. The stays themselves were simply satisfactory. The only reason we went was because we had gift cards to use.
