Lovely central hotel
from NWTravellers23
Stayed here for 2 nights, throughly enjoyed stay, staff are very helpful and very friendly. Good central location, marina is within walking distance, mumbles is a short bus ride away. Many restaurants within walking distance, but there is a very good chinese called the wild swan which is opposite the Dragon. The nightlife is varied from lively wine bars to quieter pubs, but there is plenty to choose from !!! Overall an excellent city weekend away.
Nice hotel - car park hard to get to!
from SagarFuzz
Getting to Swansea is easy, but they are in the process of putting in some bizarre road changes in the centre. We went round and round the one way trying to get to the hotel car park, but the roundabout the hotel's website says is in front of it no longer exists and the weird system had us stressed out and puzzled. For your info - there is a little side road on the right just past the hotel where the car park is located round the back of the hotel, so try and get in the inside lane... Never mind! The hotel staff were welcoming, which was nice, and check in was quick and easy. Unfortunately, the heating in the room didn't work, and the 'engineer' they sent up clearly didn't have a clue how to use it, so they moved us to a new room within 5 minutes, and a porter was sent to carry our stuff. Even though the first room was very nice, the second was better - we got moved to a little quiet suite, so were very pleased. The second room was 319 - I recommend it. The decor is new throughout, although the carpet looks a little worn in places. Keep an eye out for the dragon tail motif... The rooms had a modern clean feel, and we had two flat screen TVs - one in the teeny lounge and one in the generous sized bedroom. The bathroom was all new, complimentary shampoo and conditioner for two people and PLENTY of towels. The bath had two showers - one fixed to the wall and a removable one. Don't ask me why, but my partner thought it was great. The TVs have movies and play stations etc, but the reception is not great. It was some sort of sky package - they ought to just change it to freeview. All hotels should - crappy sky reception is NOT what a traveler wants. One tip - don't use the hotel's wireless - it's £10 for 24 hrs. Use the Swansea cheap broadband also available. £1.49 for 24hrs and you can even pay by paypal if you want. The transmission was intermittent, but so much cheaper I didn't mind. For some reason the hotel restaurant wasn't open, which was disappointing. We went to the bar on the ground floor, but the vegetarian options (of which there were about two) were dire, so we ate out at a Cantonese just across the road and to the left of the hotel. You can't miss it - it has water streaming down the windows. Really great food and very fast, polite service. We tried the gym the next morning. The pool is open from 7am -9pm, with last entry an hour before closing. It's really annoying that hotels have this 'hour before closing' admission policy - there is no point to it and it is frustrating for guests to say the least. Anyway, the pool is ok, 18m long but quite narrow, only enough room for three swimmers doing lengths, four at most. I didn't try the gym, but it looked ok. I did try the sauna - fantastic. They also provide towels - great stuff. Finally, it is central. The Glynn Vivian gallery is 2 minutes walk behind the hotel and town centre is right in front of you. I would definitely stay again; it is cheap, convenient and modern.
nice refurb
from laticsfanatic
one night stay with my wife almost booked grand hotel but changed minds because of bad reviews. what a stroke of luck.hotel was spotless and staff were very helpful and accomodating.right in the town centre just where we wanted.only fault was toasters were not quick enough for breakfast.all in all excellent value for money and would certainly go back.well recommended
This was a memorable short break
from ShropshireAandB
We booked a break between Christmas and New Year, the hotel staff could not have been more helpful, there was a feeling of a 'team' working, and enjoying working together. Accomodation was superb, well up to 4*standard The Brasserie served 5* food and was the highlight of our stay, top quality local ingredients, superbly cooked and presented. This Hotel deserves to prosper.
Good Hotel
from Mid-walian
We had a newly refurbished room on the 7th floor, very nice bathroom and all very clean. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only thing to complain about is the breakfast for which you pay separately and £12.00 at that - when we arrive in the breakfast room - almost 1 hour before it was supposed to finish there was hardly any food left - and they were very slow to replenish and for some things only when we complained. So our advice would be stay in the hotel (it is much better than the so-called Grand Hotel near the station) but don't have the breakfast there. Also do not use the directions listed on the website, they are completely incorrect as there are major road works happening in Swansea city centre at the moment.
Nice Hotel
from kaksi
After reading the reviews on this site I was a bit dubious about staying at this hotel but we really enjoyed our stay. The reception staff were very friendly when we arrived and the staff in general were really nice. Our room was spacious, modern and clean. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and there was plenty of choice. The hotel was very central so everything was in walking distance. The car park had limited space but the NCP was just around the corner and the parking was complimentary if you were guests at the hotel. I would have no problem recommending this hotel and would stay there again. There is a fantastic Chinese across the road called The Wild Swan, the food the was outstanding and the staff were excellent. Definately worth a visit!
Very central hotel - no complaints!!

I stayed at the Dragon in mid July with my son to attend his graduation. As we arrived late and with very little time to spare before the graduation, the receptionist immediately gave us access to a room where we could quickly freshen up before wizzing off to the ceremony. We were told not to worry , we could 'check-in ' on our return later in the day; enabling us to arrive at the ceremony just in time!! The room we were given for our one night stay was facing onto the main street but we did not find it excessively noisy late on - although admittedly it was a Monday night. The room itself was very clean with an adequately sized bathroom and pleny of clothes hanging space. I was slightly disappointed with the hotel bar which basically is a very small bar within the brasserie - very limited seating, and the definite impression that it is really only a bar to sit until your table is available. The hotel car park is extremely limited with I guess approximately twenty or so spaces at the most. We were lucky (especially as we brought two cars) but noticed that guests arriving later in the day were not so fortunate and had to find alternative parking elsewhere. As car crime in Swansea is known to be pretty bad, a secure hotel car park was one of the reasons I booked the hotel in the first place. If you can find a space, the security is good - a token has to be obtained from reception to enable you to leave the car park via a barrier, ramp affair which appeared to be a good deterrent to any car thief. Several days after leaving the hotel I realised that I had left a watch in the bedroom. I notified the hotel who rang me back later in the day to inform me that my watch had been found. It was then posted to me the next day. (I was actually in two minds whether I should even bother ringing to see if it had been found!! After this experience I can honestly say that the staff employed at the Draqon are both helpful and very honest, something quite rare these days!! Although I did'nt have any meals at the hotel (pleny of restaurants/bars in the immediate area) I would stay at the hotel again and recommend it to others.
I will not be hurrying back

Stayed here on business for two nights in early July. Nicely refurbished room with air con but very small. Traffic noise from the road outside and also from the seemingly intoxicated locals singing and screaming went on until after 2am making for a very poor nights sleep. Did not have dinner in the restaurant but room service was acceptable if overpriced. Breakfast was a pretty poor affair - I was first down at 6.30 and by the look of it all the food is cooked at one time and is expected to last for the duration of the service. The car park is also very small and does not meet the requirements compared to the number of rooms. A lot of money has been spent of the refurb (it was a Holiday Inn and a very poor one at that) but they desperately need to do something about the staff. They are quite clearly lacking in training and leadership and although pleasant the are generally pretty clueless. Question to reception. " Were should I park when the car park is full?" Answer "I don't know, I don't drive". Sort of sums up the whole experience. This will not be top of my list for a return visit. There are much better places to stay in the same price category
Great stay
from A TripAdvisor Member
reading these reviews put me off slightly, but i have to disagree when i arrived i was greatly acknowledged by the very helpfull reception team. my room was stunning, spacious and clean. the staff in the hotel seemed really friendly and helpfull. the hotel facilities were great with the gym, pool bars and resturants. the food was outstanding, but since i stayed the saturday night breakfast on the sunday was very busy but still very nice. i couldn't of picked a better location for my stay as it was city centre and close to all amenities. will return again
staff a disgrace
from A TripAdvisor Member
i stayed at this hotel the beginning of June, as we had a wedding and my partner was irish we had a large number of rooms. The staff were so unfriendly and unprofessional i was embarassed to say i was from swansea, they weren't the least bit helpful esp the night porter. Guests weren't even served a bottle of water as he was busy sorting out the bar for a conference the next day. Rooms were ok but nothing much to write about and the noise from the builders def wouldn't be a number one hotel in swansea..

This hotel was in a good location in the middle of Swansea, close for the shops and the pubs. The food in the restaurant was really nice or you can eat in the bar upstairs too if you would prefer something a bit smaller and cheaper. The staff were really friendly and there... more
