Montemar Beach Resort Hotel Reviews
" We travelled to this thing called 4*... "
Submitted By: Mrs Ness MUpon arrival at 11pm, the night concierge/staff at reception stank of alcohol and was smoking at reception, we were placed in an apartment off the main resort, which had names on the side not relating to montemar, we had to walk everyday 5-10 minutes to reach the main beach/ restaurants/ pools.
Mainly eastern european, not that it mattered but they really made us feel like outcasts!
The baby pool was a health hazard, broken tiles covered with crates, never cleaned, yesterdays rubbish was still in there the following morning.
Restaurants were a free for all, by the second day my husband, children and I went out of town and met our friends to eat, frankly it was either act like a savage as soon as the food is served or wait for scraps at the last minute.
The best was the staff! asked for a water for my child, the barmaid served me a vodka, I said no water, she said yes VODKA, at this stage I started pointing at my 2 year old child which she just frownd at me, I gave up and asked for a vodka and one lemonade!!
The manager was so horrible, prior to the wedding we needed to rid some creases from our shirts etc.. ready for the wedding, kindly asked the manager whether they had an ironing service (this is 4*) his answer 'NO' so I kindly asked 'do you have an iron on the facilities we may borrow' (again this is supposed to be 4*) again 'NO' at this stage I asked whether anywhere had an IRON or Ironing service again he replied 'NO'... my thoughts on this individual are too rude to describe. We had to hand our items to our friends in the town hotel to carry this out for us! what a joke.
PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY, DO NOT WASTE IT ON THIS TERRIBLE PLACE.

Submitted By: A. HarperWe made the best out of our holiday by renting a car and visiting the surrounding areas and eating out.
I would never return to this hotel and I would never recommend it to anybody. Cheers

Submitted By: Mrs V GateshillYou have the use of several pools and can choose the quieter or livelier areas depending on your own personal choice. The entertainment is varied with a children's club and various singers/cabaret. Much of this is performed in four or five languages which my children thought most entertaining!
The food is slightly repetitive but of a good standard and plenty of it! Drinks are available to midnight in the hotel and some bars are self-service other have a bar person.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time as a young family who are happy to while away a quiet evening drinking cocktails, children's cocktails available too, watching the sun set over the sea or joining in with a large rabbit dancing to the Hokey Cokey!
This is not the place for hen parties or young tattooed lads - which may help you to decide whether this is the place for you!

Submitted By: Mrs S WingroveAccommodation very very poor.
Food poor catered more for German/Polish/Russian guests.
The complex is miss interpreted as being part of the Costa Lindos which is 4 Star (only just).
You can use the pools etc but not the accommodation. We had to walk 1/4 mile to our accommodation which was above disused shops.
You are not in Pefkos you are about 10 minute’s bus ride from the town. No a lot at the resort few shops/Supermarkets and bars.
Staff not friendly.
Kids clubs only for Germans/etc.
Not a good hotel. Would never go back - I would say do not go!!

Submitted By: Mrs T BruceTo cut the story short, we managed 3 nights in the hotel from hell. If anyone thinking of going to this hotel, do not go, it’s not as advertised, defo not 4* more like 1*.
Food terrible, didn’t even know what toast was for breakfast, it was like a stampede to get chips for children at meal times as there was nothing else for kids to eat.
Room was so small 3 beds pushed together so you could not open wardrobe, and the other bed was in kitchen against cooker and socket with wires hanging out.
The pool was okay but very cold, the staff were ignorant and not helpful at all we complained and complained from air con not working to sea view.
I would be here for days if I had to give all the problems we had, we spent a fortune eating out the 3 nights we stayed there, as we could not eat anything, there was no other English at hotel so catered for Germans mostly, my husband not a fussy eater at all but he even struggled.
We are not stuck up by any means; we are all working class families. All we do expect is clean and comfortable hotel decent food and good value for money.
You do not find any of these at this hotel.

Submitted By: Mr J McCullaWe were stuck in this hell hole for two weeks with four kids. No entertainment, food inedible and no other English people.
After two days we had to eat out otherwise starve.
The rooms were awful, air conditioning leaked all over the beds; the balcony was flooded as the pipes just emptied onto them.
The internet room was a builder’s yard. The pool had broken lights floating in it, the slabs all round were cracked some not even there, it was dangerous and unsafe everywhere.
This was not the holiday in the brochure far from it and we feel it should be condemned.

Submitted By: Mr N SwanUpon arrival first impressions of hotel reception, thought this looks clean and tidy and not a bad choice.....how wrong I was.
After checking in we were told to follow one of there staff to our rooms.
From there we left the reception crossed the road walked down the road then down a track in the middle of a building site on a ten minute hike, bearing in mind there was children and elderly all trying to drag there cases and bags with them.
Finally we arrive at a block of self catering apartments (if you can call them that) in the middle of nowhere.
On entering found that cooker hobs were glowing hot and no way of turning them off, patio doors hanging off on the hinges, toilet seats falling off ect. ect.
So after a bit of a confrontation with the hotel manager we were told that we would be moved to a hotel across the road for 2 nights and then be moved back to the hotel complex.
So after 2 lovely nights in the Lindos princess 5 star hotel we packed up again and were put into tiny apartments opposite the hotel with no room to swing a cat, the family room consisted of 3 beds jammed next to each other and very little else.
On a meeting with our rep that day, it was clear to see that we were not the only people that was having these problems and done the best he could sort it out.
Unfortunately we could not be moved but was offered a £40 refund per person.
By this stage it was a case of making the most of it and get on arranging the wedding which I am glad to say was a perfect day.
I will agree that with other comments about the food being re-used and the fact you were lucky if you heard another English voice while you were there, but we gritted our teeth and made the best of it.

Submitted By: PR WinzerWe are completely perplexed how this Hotel can be classed as 4 star. The level of service, food and general appearance are definitely more like 2 star. Some things are OK and they did clean the rooms every day. The pool and beach were quite nice. Some of the rooms do have sea views or nice gardens/plants and all rooms did have air conditioning. So in some aspects it was Ok. However for me these things were far out weighed by the following negative points:
The staff at reception were rude and didn't give a hoot about the customer satisfaction. We were unhappy with our room since it had no fridge minibar, no phone, the balcony looked onto a building Site, the bed was broken and still unmade since the last occupants. We had to stay overnight in another self catering flat and wait for availability of another room. In the end we paid for an up grade to the most modern rooms they had which were nice. However it was an awful lot of hassle to get reasonable accommodation and of the 3 rooms we tried we had to pay extra before we got any thing reasonable. The other room seemed totally unacceptable and not 4 star.
The Hotel was completely over booked and didn't have a room for us when we arrived. We had to spend the first two nights in the Lindos Princess up the road, which was lovely, but still hassle. Overbooking seemed common and everyone was complaining and it seemed that you were given whatever room was left rather the standard that you had paid for. It is run more like a production line and you having a pleasant stay is the last of their concerns, people in, people out.
The whole complex is not one self contained village as expected. The resort consists of various blocks of rooms and buildings that are dispersed over a large area and separated by a busy road. Some blocks are along the main road and separated by shops and supermarkets that are nothing to do with the Hotel at all. One room we stayed in for a single night was at the furthest part of the resort and 5 minutes walk to reception along the main, unlit unsafe road and anyone old or unfit or with children would have struggled. Some rooms allocated were self catering without the all inclusive facilities and some were apartments over shops. If you are unlucky to be given a room in one of the old, low standard blocks then you are not in for a pleasant stay and a long walk to anything.
The food was dreadful, totally dreadful. There was no Greek, Italian themes for what I could see. Presentation was on par with an old school canteen and these can never be called restaurants. Trays of unpalatable food were just left for your self service and they did re-use the food. The actual eating areas were like cheap cafes. Again just a production line, people in - eat - and people out.
I suffered food poisoning and was ill for 3 days, and I could see some other tourist complaining, so it wasn't just me. Staff at other pubs and restaurants in the area instantly new where I was staying when I said I was ill and some had worked at the Montemar and said that the hygiene standards were very poor, the staff were low paid and simply didn't care!
Any entertainment put on was rubbish and not in English and therefore we didn't bother. Not that anything was actually advertised for us to know what was actually going on anyway. All the bars shut by 11-12pm so don't expect to be up all night drinking to drown your sorrows.
The Montemar has nothing of any significance around it and therefore we had a taxi ride or bus ride to the closest village of Pefkos to find any restaurants or lively bars. We did this as the Montemar had nothing to offer in the evenings and I refused to eat there.

Submitted By: Mrs N LarnerThe pools were very accessible as no-one really tended to remain in the hotel especially if you are English, we feel the reference to a prisoner of war camp was not far wrong. Any new English guests were paying to be moved to another hotel, the shortest visit was by a couple whom had requested to move within one hour of being there!!!
We took two kids whom hated the hotel as much as we and they refused to eat so we had to eat out on many occasions, contradicting the whole point of all inclusive really.
Please, please, please do not book to go to this hotel and waste your hard earned money, but do visit Rhodes the island has a great deal to offer and the local people are lovely, very welcoming and attentive. We will be returning to Rhodes but will definitely look further into where we will be staying in the future, self catering probably being the best option as eating out was relatively cheap and fantastic value for money.

Submitted By: Mr J TaylorThe rooms are too small, very cramped, we had a 14 and 10 year old sleeping in the same room as the adults. The food is awful, the food not used that day was re-used the next day, although breakfast was edible if you like cereal.
The camp (hotel) is in the middle of nowhere with no footway's you have to walk in the very busy road, with only 3 shops nearby. The beach is not sandy as brochure advertised, but very pebbly. This hotel is not a 4 star, but the equivalent to a 2 star at the very most. I would strongly not recommend this hotel if you are British.

Submitted By: Mr J BredemusThe rooms are small, dirty, and have ugly views of either empty fields, other buildings, or a busy road. The food is horrible, by the end I was eating just pizza and watermelon everyday. And they do simply recycle uneaten food day after day. Lastly the location is in the middle of nowhere. There are a couple touristy shops and restaurants, but no nightlife or real Greek people.
Don't stay at this dump!

Submitted By: Miss K BowkettWe arrived in a taxi (who didn't know where the hotel was), it was well sign posted at all, in fact we walked into the Lindos Princess opposite thinking we were in the right place, unfortunate for us!
We were told that we would be staying in a superior room, the mini bar would be refilled every other day - clean towels as well. This wasn't the case, we were in apartments above shops, there was nothing superior about the room at all. The mini bar wasn't refilled at all for the week that we were there, and when we asked when it would be refilled, we got that there was enough drink in the fridge to last our stay - 4 cans of cheap Fanta, 6 cans of crap beer, 4 bottles of water - bear in mind that Rhodes was having a heat wave - 40 degrees!! So those drinks weren't even going to last 2 days!
We had dirty towels for the first 3 days of our holiday.
When we got there in the afternoon and got settled in, that evening we went for tea and the only restaurant that was open - there wasn't 3 to choose from (Greek, international & Italian). The food wasn't very good at all - there wasn't any signs up to tell you what you were eating - and to be perfectly honest I think it was recycled every day!
For 5 nights of our 7 night all inclusive holiday, we had to result in going out for food! Which was much nicer and a lot better service!

We arrived in the early hours of the morning, but the receptionist was very attentive but it was quite a hike uphill to the room, but very clean and spacious.
We had a twin room that actually had 3 beds in it, satelite tv (mainly german) and a nice little balcony.
On awaking the next morning and looking out of the window, I knew we had made a good choice, the view was stunning, looking over one of the 10 pools, breakfast was well fine, coffee, bread, cheese, ham, everything you would expect on a european holiday and lots of it.
I have to say there were lots of stray cats around but thats quite normal.
The food was very repetative but if you like meat and greek salad you won't starve.
Lunch at the beach restaurant was a BBQ every day and really nice.
It is what it is and you get what you pay for, this was not an expensive holiday and we had a great time and met some really nice english people although the majority of the guests seemed to be german/eastern european.
Nearby Lardos had really nice restaurants as does Lindos and it is very beautiful.
