Campanile Hotel Cardiff reviews

3 / 10
Dec 2007, Mr O Vandersheldon

Was alright. The staff are all French, but they coped (I suppose). Got a bit narky and mixed us up when we arrived. Took us an hour and a half to get into our rooms! The room did us, but you only wanted to stay one night. The Bar and Restaurant was the best part of the... more

Very basic
We paid £70 for a fri & sat night so werent expecting much. you get a little mini cabin. It is very small, has hard beds, a decent bathroom, internet connection, a tv, so a good base. The heating was good, but very windy, and you can hear loads of traffic. Dont stay there if you want to be close to cardiff, as you'll need transport. Plus if there is anyone staying on the cabin above you it is VERY noisy, you can hear everything!
Worst Hotel ive ever stayed in
Had to move room as the room i had was dirty. Was still dirty next day. Electric was off in the morning at 5. 30 no one on site to help very scarey. Noice from main road was very loud ,Heating in room was poor . No apologie for power cut . Security with peoples card details let on shelf in bar area . It really is a case of you get what you pay for. I checked out and stayed in the premier lodge next door for the extra £10 it cost it was well worth it i only regret that i hadnt booked with premier in first place. Would not stay at this hotel... more
Functional
Basic but good. The things that mattered to me were right. Big bathroom, good shower with rose on a hose, big comfortable bed, good draught Stella, good food, cheap. All the staff are French, some are good, some bad. I would stay there again.
Do not stay at this hotel
They will try to rip you off. I booked two rooms there but when I rang to confirm three days before travel I was told that only one room was booked. They told me that there was only one room booked in my name and so I cancelled as they would not accomodate the five os us. As there was an event in Cardiff that weekend we could not get another hotel had to stay in another city. When I returned from my trip i found that I had been charged on my credit card for a no show! The hotel claims that I did not cancel both rooms. Even though I... more
** WARNING ***
Check in fine and made way to dated chalet style accomodation. Had booked twin room with two small beds and tv. For the hotel the facilities were average but clean. The bathroom was small with a bath / shower however only a small child could bath there! After a pleasant day out in cardiff we returned to the hotel and all nine of us sat down to a meal. I orded a lager which after a delay arrived flat, again we expreienced further delays when waiting for some one to take our order. I ordered steak as did my partner only to be told "we only... more
Comfortable, but...
We stayed at the Campanile in mid-March. Its location just off the A48 not far from the M4 is convenient for those with a car, but might be too out-of-the way for those using public transport. The room was spare but comfortable, although the heat was on a timer and we couldn't warm it up on arrival. Breakfast was generally good. The made-to-order fried eggs were deep-fried rather than sauteed; the bacon was delicious. The one criticism we had - and it was significant - was the attitude of the desk person on our first day and evening. We... more
Bed and Breakfast
Stayed at the Camponile cardiff in early Feb 2004. Breakfast was a relevation. I have stopped at many 'hotels' up and down the country and to date this breakfast , cooked to order , (otherwise you are ignored and sit for ages waiting.......) was cold on both occasions . It was my fault , ofcourse , that I wanted my breakfast hot and was told this in no uncertain manner. The second morning this was cured by way of cooking the breakfast as and when and then banging it in the microwave to heat it all up together. The eggs should have been... more
Cardiff's Hidden Gem
The Campanile hotel, tucked just off the Pentwyn Interchange on the A48, is a real find for the weary traveller. Positioned in the budget range of the market this French chain offer simple but comfortable and well appointed rooms. The Strong point. First, despite close proximity to the busy A48, a boon for a quick getaway in the morning, my room was so quiet. Second, the restaurant and bar on site. The food was excellent. A strong French influence. Home made soup. chicken with tarragon and mustard dressing. Super range of puddings and a... more
