Great country house hotel
Just a one night stay with family (all adult) but felt really welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. An early check-in was no problem (phone ahead to check). Tea in the library to welcome us. Attentive non-intrusive staff, hotel owner on site. Dining room in the conservatory, inventive varied menu presented with care and an excellent wine list. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout with nice touches in the rooms; complimentry sherry & mineral waters, bathrobes, fresh flowers, fruit & homemade shortbread and to reassure... more
Where is our room? - very unprofessional
We arranged to stay at the Pear Tree as a last special weekend away prior to arrival of our first child. We were really looking forward to a lovely stay and a great meal. We turned up only to find that our reservation had been cancelled 2 days before the weekend without anyone bothering to contact us. We had driven for 2.5 hours to get there and arranged our whole weekend around this. The receptionist did not seem to care at all about our predicament so we asked to see the manger. He couldn't explain what had happened although it... more
Poor customer service
Unfortunately we didn't get to stay here, despite looking forward to doing so. When we arrived early on Saturday afternoon we were told that we had cancelled our room on the Thurs just before, which was utterly untrue (hence we still travelled >2 hours to get there). I have an unusual surname and it is not feasible to think that they cancelled the wrong booking ("it was definitely your name sir"). They were then full and with virtually no apology told us there was nothing they could do. We had to ask to see the manager, who,... more
A haven
Arrived at this charming hotel at the end of a day on the road and was warmly welcomed. The room ( see pic) was perfectly furnished and equipped for a country hotel and was one of two rooms on the ground floor with its own patio. The management and staff are clearly on top of everything and I think I can say this was a nearly perfect weekendl stay. The Pear Tree is not in the most pretty part of southern England - its very near Swindon and its expanding suburbs - but would make a good base to explore west to Bath and Wells or north to... more
Bad food at the Pear Tree at Purton
I visited The Pear Tree at Purton for a meal to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The meat was chewy, the vegetables were not fully cooked and what they said was potato was burnt. I could not recommend the restaurant to anyone.
What joy.
I have just returned from having lunch at The Pear Tree, Purton with my partner and my Mother. What a joy it was. It was very peaceful, the service was impeccable, and the food was very good. Such a difference from an establishment not too far away which gives the impression that it is the bees knees in that area. I will certainly be going again.
Caring and piecefull
We stayed at the Pear Tree last weekend to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we had a lot of trouble getting there because of British Airways and traffic jam, we were much to late for our dinner. For the Pear Tree staff no problem, they made us three great sandwiches and we settled down in the relaxing lounge area with a big beer. The dinner the next evening was just gorgeous (and I am very picky with food). Thank you for the wonderful stay! We hopefully will have another opportunity to enjoy... more
nothing was too much trouble
We stayed here on the night of our wedding after the reception which was also held there. Fantastic service by Francis and Anne, who were always there to deal with our queries over the previous 6 months
A hotel, garden and sevice to delight the weary traveler
Last summer we were leading a group of 19 people to visit gardens in England. At our first hotel, the Pear Tree at Purton we couldn't have been more charmed. Our hosts warmly welcomed us at the door of the old vicarage-now-hotel, were organised with the registrations and showed us to delightful rooms overlooking their lovely garden. Sherry and treats were in the room as a welcome. After we freshened up, owner Francis escorted us to the banquet room - set aside especially for our group. And what a beautiful meal was in store. We... more
