Rose And Crown Hotel

I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights.When we arrived at the hotel first impressions were....this is nice. When we went to reception to check in the lady on reception was on the phone......for ages.....chatting to a friend which i thought was rude to be honest because it was a conversation about nothing really and she could see we were waiting to check in so was not very impressed to be honest. Just stayed at this hotel for 3 nights with my aunt, had a wonderful time. View from the bedroom great, the room clean towels changed everyday, the decor a bit tired but we did't stay in the room all day!! We dined here as well and the food was good. Would recommend

Having booked an overnight stay at the Rose and Crown about six months in advance, and confirmed directly with them three weeks before, we arrived at the hotel after a day at Salisbury races to be told there was no room for us as they were overbooked. The "Duty Manager" did find our booking and was able to print out a copy of the Confirmation, but with no apology told us we had been booked into another local hotel. This hotel looks lovely from the outside and does have some great features - it's a very short, and pretty, walk to the cathedral, it's beautifully positioned next to a bend in the river and the room we stayed in was very spacious with lovely views. Having said this there are some problems and I wouldn't choose to stay here again. Breakfast is only served until 9.30am on a weekend and judging by the amount of people that came down to breakfast between 9am and 9.20am this is not late enough. We went to a wedding here this past weekend.......the hotel lost our reservation and had no rooms free.....they sorted out an alternative but given we had an 8 month old baby it meant one of us missed half the reception.....thanks!

Just returned from a perfect weekend in Salisbury. The Rose and Crown hotel is beautifully located overlooking the river and watermeadows with a wonderful view of the cathedral and double arched bridge over the river. The room was spacious with a king-sized bed and lounge area. The ensuite was clean with plenty of piping hot water. The location was peaceful and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was 'eat as much as you want 'of full Engliah, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, juices etc. We will definitely stay there again.

From the outside this looks like a lovely hotel, it is a beamed tudor building set alongside the river in Salisbury and is short walk from the Cathedral. However, our experience was anything but rosy. We stayed at The Rose and Crown on Saturday 15th July. I found this hotel by looking around as i thought i could just arrive in salisbury and book somewhere only to find that there is not a great deal of hotels to choose from. I had a room in the older section, dating back to the 13th Century the receptionist was telling me!! All oak beams etc and was lucky to get a view of the cathedral and river. The gardens are fascinating and they are directly on the river banks. Breakfast is great fun as the staff feed the ducks and the swans that are resident. The staff are all friendly... more

My family of five stayed in this hotel for three nights in July of 2004. We loved it. We stayed in the more modern wing, in two rooms that were not elegant but clean and comfortable. Service adequate. Breakfast above average. But here's the main thing; the setting is picture postcard perfect, a country inn with a beautiful lawn that runs down to the river's edge, with ducks and swans. Flowers everywhere. I'm used to staying at Marriotts, Hiltons, Westins and so on, so that's what I'm comparing this hotel to. Not terribly impressed at check-in -- I had too many bags to carry on my own, but no offer of help and my room was a LONG way away from reception: endless corridors and staircases. My room was in the "new" section at the back (built in the Sixties, I think). Room showed its age -- dated decor, dirty grouting in bathroom, peeling wallpaper. Pleasant view, however.
