Angel Hotel

A nice central location. I was not disturbed by any noise from the high street. the hotel has a lovely court yard to sit in. the bedrooms are very clean and have everything you need. the bed spreads look a bit dated (flowery). The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great.

Somewhat expensive but comfortable hotel in the centre of the town. Be aware that the hotel has two halves - a older building at the front and a more modern part at the back. I stayed in the back half and was very happy with the room. They are big (by European standards), reasonably quiet and well designed - no odd shaped bathrooms, no winding halls or staircases, no squeaky floorboards and no musty rising-damp smell. My photos are of rooms in the back area. The front, historic, part seems of poorer quality from reports that I have heard but I have not stayed there. Also some front rooms may face onto the main street which can get quite noisy. Service was fine. No problem with bed, hot water, cupboard space etc etc... The rooms all have free wifi which was very welcome. It is true that they hold wedding receptions and such like here - so the dining room and courtyard areas can be crowded and noisy on some nights. My room had double-glazed windows and I had no real problem with the noise. If you have to stay in Chippenham, you won't suffer from staying here. Whether you suffer from staying in Chippenham is another matter! Frankly, I moved up to Bath as soon as I could...

I spent two nights in The Angel on business, and I liked it. The front of the Hotel is superbly placed on the Market Square in Chippenham, and at the rear a nice extension has been added to give it the facilities you'd expect from a modern hotel. The breakfast was good, the room in the new extension was entirely satisfactory. The new pool and gym does not provide extensive facilities, but what there is is done well enough. For an English market town, I'd say this is a good choice.

We stayed here for a wedding recently. The building was very nice and the decor good in the common rooms and it had a lovely courtyard with plenty of tables for good weather. Our room in the main building was okay but to get past the door you had to go into the bathroom - very oddly designed. Breakfast was a total shambles - loads of teenage girls standing around but nobody actually serving or taking orders - we had to wait about 15 minutes before having to ask a waitress if we could order and she then had to go and get someone else to take our order! Just seemed very disorganised and slow. Wasn't really worth the wait when it came either! Wouldn't stay here again.

Spent a Saturday night here in June 05. Wasn't really expecting much, but was very impressed. The check in staff were friendly and we were given a lovely big room in the main building, much larger and with much more character that those pictured on their web site. Recently refurbished bathroom was particularly impressive. Had a really good (and very reasonable) evening meal at the hotel restaurant. Service in the restuarant was superb, despite a wedding party going on in one of the function rooms. Breakfast was OK, though not a buffet as expected. Had a swin in the pool which is small, but warm and clean. Outside areas looked really nice, but it was too cold to sit out. Would certainly stay here again.

On arrival at the Angel, it looked terrific. On entering our hearts sunk. There was a wedding on. From that moment on, it went downhill. It seemed that all available staff were on the wedding party and other paying guests had to just make do. The beautiful courtyard was full of the wedding party, so no chance of a quiet drink after a long drive. Our dinner order took over half an hour to arrive. The wedding party still filled the building. Breakfast service was odd. Our order of hot food arrived while we still on our cereals and fruit, and was just plonked on the table. When we saw the staff setting up the function rooms for another wedding that was it, we checked out 2 nights early, complained to the duty manager about the poor service and we were not charged for our one night stay. Fine, you might say, but we did not get the pleasant break we were hoping for. If you intend to stay here, ring up to see if there is a wedding on first.

There for a wedding and everybody looked after me beautifully. Right in the middle of town with a good bar and other good pubs with food around. I'll use it again. A bit expensive but worth the money

Very nice hotel downtown, the only complaint is that it's a bit expensive. It's definitly not underpriced, but it's still a nice hotel
