Quebecs Boutique Hotel Reviews

Gorgeous is the only word that describes this hotel, it is beautiful. A classic Victorian style that is elegant and suitable for a romantic break or if you have the money, just a nice weekend away. As Leeds is a buzzing city centre you have the option of shopping, plays or... more

Noisy but nice
I agree with all reviews both good and bad. I have stayed in Quebecs both on business and for pleasure. I stayed with a group of German business colleagues a few years ago and one of them was daft enough to leave his window open in a groundfloor room and was awoken by someone trying to break in. This was handled excellently by the staff and he has dined out on the tale ever since Ever since then I've been upgraded on every stay. I've always stayed in excellent rooms. One suite I had, though looking out onto the main road, was absolutely enormous. I'm greeted by name whenever I check in now and the manager's regular champagne reception on a Wednesday is a nice touch. My bags have always been carried up to my room and when I've ordered room service it's always been prompt. The hotel is sadly VERY noisy though owing to its central location next to the massive Majestyk's night club and the bottle bins being filled in the small hours does grate a bit. However, this is not the fault of the hotel though they might like to consider providing ear plugs. The building and staircase are spectacular and it would be a shame if they were to end up being unused. The sous le nez restaurant beneath is also superb. In sum, do stay there but not if you're a light sleeper or someone who turns in early.
5 Stars - One for every problems
I stayed many times at this hotel for business trips. Only the first visit was ok. Definitely not a 5 star. Many rooms are very small. Many rooms are very small. Avoid first floor rooms. One has a window facing a very noisy street; another window facing the entrance hall and it's next to the elevator and the manager's office. As a bonus, you can hear all discussions happening during the night at the front desk. In many rooms, the TV is basically on the floor so you cannot watch it from your bed. I also had a room that has a desk with absolutly no space for your legs!
Certainly not 5*
Stayed at Quebec's in the last month. The hotel is promoted as a 5* hotel, but most certainly is not 5*. The staff are rather unfriendly, the rooms (studio suites) seem to be on the main road which runs in front of the hotel, and it is noisy! - avoid all front facing rooms at all costs. I have raised this with the hotel management and they admit this is a problem. We were not told about the "honesty bar" until we were checking out, which was a shame and lacking on the hotel;s part. We stayed on a VIP shopping weekend, didnt receive the shopping vouchers, until we asked for them, the bottle of champagne that comes with the package was not in the room on arrival and had to be asked for, and the cheese and port which is suppose to arrive in the evening, failed to make an appearance. To top things off, a member of staff tried to get into our room at 3am in the morning, having got the room numbers confused!!! The breakfast room is small and very crowded when busy, the selection at breakfast is very poor indeed. In my opinion, not a good experience at all and won't be returning, choose the Radisson SAS hotel in staying in Leeds.
Good if you can be bothered to complain
We have just spent a weekend in Leeds staying at Quebecs. At check in, we were informed that we could not park our car as there were only 7 available spaces and a waiting list - this despite having requested a space on the phone 48 hours before. A couple checked out at the same time however so I informed the rather rude receptionist that we would be availing ourselves of that space and she agreed. We also had to change rooms three times. The first one was tiny and only had a shower, no bath. The second room absolutely reeked of smoke despite the staff's assurances that it was a no smoking room. Finally we were moved to room 207 which was huge, beautifully appointed and what we expected from a 'luxury' hotel all along. The hotel lets itself down not because it is bad but because it describes itself as a 5 star establishment that 'redifines luxury'. It is certainly not 5 star (although the room we eventually ended up in was certainly of a top standard) and it is so understaffed from the disapointing breakfast to the poorly stocked honours bar and painfully slow service that it would do better to describe itself as a luxury guesthouse. That way - guests would expect less and be less disapponted. Despite all of this, the location is great (if a little noisy), the best rooms are lovely and the overally experience worthwhile for a short stay - its just a shame the group seems to have spent all their budget on marketing and not all providing the experience promised in their publicity.
Not quite 5 *
Stayed 26/11/04 - 29/11/04. Hotel rooms nice size, although for a 5* far from luxurious. Breakfast each morning was a bit of a hit or a miss, not too much choice, too much waiting and too few serving. Hotel rather noisy at night with nightclub next door and the persistant emptying of bottles into bins at back of hotel at 1.00am and 3.00am. Hotel staff could be more pleasant and the oak room could have been better stocked. Sadly the hotel seems to rely on glossy brochures and features in the VQ magazine to uphold its reputation but a lot more effort is required to bring it up to standard.
Almost Purrfect!
Having read the reviews just after I just booked...I wasn't sure what to expect! Yes reception check in...is small and slow, especially if three or four people are waiting, like there was when I got there! But no real problem really! We had been upgraded to an executive room (booked a club) have no idea what the difference might have been! Room was very spacious and looked just like one of the photo's on the net! Lovely big bed and beautiful linen, probably one of the largest hotel rooms I've ever had, with the exception of The Lowry in Manchester! Bathroom however was alittle disapointing, nothing special. Mini bar was ok but no exciting nibbles like you get when you stay in a Malmaison hotel (jelly babies etc)!!!!!!! Bowl of apples looked boring so I went to M&S and brought some grapes before my boyfriend arrived!!! CD is always a nice touch, but wish hotels now would include DVD players for late night film watching (take your own favourite films as you do with music) come on Hoteliers...think out of the box alittle, to be different from the rest! Nice to be able to check out at 12 thou instead of 11 like most hotels....had a late breakfast in bed. Delivered on time and hot! Got charged for my times newspaper even thou I read on the web this was complimentary! Couldnt be bothered to mention it thou! Dressing gowns were also a nice touch! Worth a stay for sure, however surf the web for better prices or direct with the hotel as they don't seem to be any different from the likes of last minute etc, which is odd! Overall My boyfriend and I had a fab time and enjoyed our very comfortable surroundings!!!!!!!!!
A Perfect Romantic Retreat
What a wonderful Hotel! My boyfriend booked a package consisting of a 1 night stay, champagne, strawberries, port and a cheeseboard as a Birthday celebration. I loved this hotel, the rooms were the best I have ever seen, and working in the industry I have visited a number of properties! The location is fairly good but be prepared to walk 5 minutes or so to the main centre. The staff were very friendly and the 'trust' bar in the hotel was something I have never seen before and a wonderful concept! The Breakfast room was slightly crowded and warm but overall I cannot fault this hotel. An absolute pleasure!"
Very Poor
5 star? You’re having a laugh….this hotel is barely rates as a 3 star tourist hotel, nevermind a 4-star business hotel in an increasingly cosmopolitian city such as Leeds. I am a regular visitor to Leeds, and am always on the look out for new and interesting places to stay and after reading the advertising on the hotels website I was really looking forward to a 3 night trip to Quebecs…I shouldn’t have been. From the moment I arrived things started to go wrong…check-in was painfully slow, and the receptionist put this down to a ‘computer fault’ though from my side of the desk all appeared fine and the problem seemed more related to the fact that they didn’t seem to expect anyone to be checking in at 16:00. When I was finally allocated a room, no porter appeared to offer to deliver my bags to my room (something I rarely avail of, but in a supposed 5-star you at least expect to be offered!), and I was left to find the lift myself. Arriving at my floor (the 5th), I was excited to see a sloping room…great, I had one of the impressive looking loft style rooms so prominent on the hotel website…what they fail to show in the scale and size of the room…no cat swinging permitted at Quebecs! The floor standing TV actually touched the edge of the bed, and I could not stand straight in at least 50% of the room. The bathroom (or should I say shower room….5 star???) was even worse…genuinely if I sat upon the lavatory my knees touched the wall in front of me! Seriously…and I am no giant. Move me please was the call (though how they could have offered this room to anyone was astounding), and I was moved…to a room on the second floor. This room was indeed larger (though definitely not spacious)…again no bath tub, and the main wardrobe contained a conference style table and chairs, I think this room may have been used as a meeting room and it showed…everything was in the wrong place, light switches, lights, a/c control and telephones (only 1 of which worked…importantly it was the bedside one that didn’t!) Using the inadequate shower facility completely soaked the entire bathroom and there appeared no way of switching on the ‘heated’ towel rail….cautiously I decided to ‘make do’. Having had a busy day, I retired to bed at 10:30 (early I know!) to find my room literally vibrating with a booming noise. The porter (where had he been??) explained this was due to the nightclub next door and was therefore out of the hotels control…he (and the manager later) appeared unable to understand that it was not acceptable to sell business hotel rooms next door to a nightclub and that this was in their control! The music finished at 2am..sleep I thought, no, within 20 mins there were approx 500 clubbers holding an after party disco in the street out side of my hotel room..…car stereos, bleating horns and chanting (I cannot exaggerate this, honestly) was unbelievable! Thankfully 30 mins later the police arrived in force and a small riot ensued! I kid you not! Entertaining it may have been…but conducive to a solid nights sleep not. I eventually got to sleep at 4am…and was woken at 6am by the heavy city centre traffic on the main road 20 meters from my window. Staff seemed unconcerned with my complaints, and unsurprised that I checked out that day (2 nights early). I would never stay in this hotel again, and would never recommend anyone used to business accommodation to do so either…I am due to stay at the Quebecs sister hotel (the Glasshouse, Edinburgh) in the near future but may have second thoughts!
great fun
My husband and myself stayed for 3 nights and it was so much fun i stayed in the liqcorice suite for 2 nights which i loved and for the last night we upgraded to the humbug suite which was heavan and although the windows faced the street next to a nightclub we wernt disturbed in the slightest, it was brilliant for shopping with everything on the door step, maybe the other reveiews are people who stay in the hilton or large hotels because we spend around one month ayear in hotels and i just cant wait to get back to this one, reception were very kind and when 5 children from my family visited they were so friendly nothing was a problem. The rooms are sheer luxuery and i always stay 5* and this is one of the best
enjoyed our stay, despite reviews!
I read the reviews here just before a 2 day stay, and the 3 most recent reviews were all bad, so we had a sense of trepidation. To deal with the complaints we felt were justified first. Car parking is a problem. We have a new Lexus, and were told the hotel had no space. When we said we would not stay, a space was found! You are charged £7 a night for this. We were originally offered the station NCP, which we declined. Parking is a problem. Even the hotel space is exposed and at the back of a bar! Also, the hotel is a bit noisy at night, being between 2 main roads and a night club. However, we found the double glazing pretty good. You do need the windows closed and the aircon on. However, those were the only criticisms we agreed with. The reception are is not poky, it is very nice and appropriate for a boutique hotel. You do not have to queue for checkout, as there is an express checkout system, which we used. We had booked a studio suite and were upgraded to the liquorice suite. It was beautifully furnished, with all the things you would expect. The bed was wonderful, egyptian cotton sheets and duvet, plus six duck down pillows. Huge bath, separate shower, Moulton Brown toiletries etc. There was an internet connection, state of the art DVD system, fancy lighting and very efficient aircon. The sitting area was a cupola type room with 5 windows. Free jars of liquorice, as well as fruit and mineral water. No-one has mentioned the magnificent wooden staircase and two storey stained glass windows, which are beautiful, together with a sitting area on the first floor. The hotel states that it does not have a restaurant, or bar, so I do not know why the lack of this should give rise to a complaint. This is a boutique hotel, not a Hilton! The lounge, with honesty bar, is charming, and we liked having it to ourselves. Breakfast was included in the price and very good. Unusual in this size of hotel to get raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, plus pineapple, melon etc. Good selection of hams, cheese etc., plus good choice of cooked breakfast. Service was particularly jolly and helpful, no problem with decaf coffee, mint teas etc. Newspapers delivered on time. All in all we enjoyed our stay very much, though flattered to be upgraded.
