The Sirius is a lovely clean hotel...
10 / 10
Nov 2006, whobuy

The Sirius is a lovely clean hotel with exceptionally pleasant and helpful staff.
Food excellent, prices for wine with meals very reasonable. The resort itself is nothing exceptional but there is sand, sea, sun and plenty of decent bars.

It is ideally located for going to and from Barcelona by train. The trains are regular and on time. It takes just over an hour and a return ticket is 6 euros.
WARNING: Do not use public toilets in Barcelona stations - the miazma is disgusting - especially at Placa de Catalunya station.
Otherwise Barcelona is a brilliant city to visit and Santa Susanna is an ideal resort to stay in if your aim is to visit Barcelona.

Where do we begin? The hotel overall...
6 / 10
Oct 2006, Ms J Walker

Where do we begin? The hotel overall did live up to its 4* rating, as regards to cleanliness, food, helpfulness of staff.

However the entertainment, we thought a little tongue in cheek. We found it rather boring to say the least! Felt they didn’t really cater to 'our needs'. (We do like to dance, but not ballroom dancing). There was also a man playing a keyboard - about 3 times in the week, a bingo night!
Was a bit puzzled to the bar shutting at 1am? (Whole resort shuts at 1am!) Was under the illusion that until the last 'guest' left the bar - then it closes? We were after all, on our holiday, having looked forward to for a long time! Yes it’s a 4 star hotel, but certainly not entertainment wise!

There are places to go out of the resort - via train - Get ticket stamped on station as we didn’t (as prob others too) were not told when we purchased the ticket! Won’t be going back there again.

Sirius hotel Cleanliness:...
7 / 10
Oct 2006, Miss L Jones

Sirius hotel
Cleanliness: exceptionally clean, linen changed every day, towels changed as desired, and room given a good scrub down daily. Hotel seemed to be cleaned to a high standard overall.
Staff: Most were very pleasant, and tried to do all they could for us, especially when jumbo tours had booked me in as a single person rather than as a couple, we ended up sharing a single bed on the first night as the hotel was full, but were given another room the next day, luckily!
Food: Plenty of variation, but was worried about eating the chicken as it was always pink in the middle!
Entertainment: This is what let the hotel down the most! We had a parrot show one night which lasted 20 min, and was terrible, equally as bad was the live music night - one man on his keyboard, he never sang and it lasted an hour!
Pool: Never got to swim due to the lack of sun beds, was not prepared to fight for one! The pool area is a bit small for the amount o people at the hotel, the one next door was much bigger and less crowded, although we never used it.
Other: Supermarket downstairs, although beware of buying alcohol here, we found supermarkets much cheaper just up the road in Malgrat. Also, the entrance to the hotel was at the side of the building and was poorly lit at night, which made me feel slightly uneasy. Hotel is in an excellent location for getting to the train station and resort.
The resort
I have mixed feelings about the resort, it depends on what you're looking for. The hotel is on the verge of Malgrat de Mar, which is busy at night times, although I didn’t feel it offered much for us. There were literally no nice restaurants, they were all fast food outlets like burger king and cafes. If you wanted a meal out you would have to resort to eating out in other hotels.
Most shops sold the same things; junk jewelry, imitation football shirts, and handbags!
The beach looked nice enough, sand is course, but we didn’t spend much time there, we had storms for 4 of the 10 days we spent there!
The train station was just up the road, and was fantastic, it cost us 6 euros each for a return to Barcelona, which is well worth a visit, the city is beautiful!
We went for a trip to the water park in Lloret, which was OK, but very hilly! We found that the Rovers Return was a good laugh at night time and the Waves bar was good for cheap beer!

First impressions were mixed, nice...
7 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr P.F Bardsley

First impressions were mixed, nice reception area although not strikingly impressive but tastefully decorated and well air conditioned. No porter service visible although the two receptionists were very helpful. Rooms I thought were a little on the small side but well furnished very clean and tastefully decorated.
Maid service and new linen daily which I must say was excellent and well deserving the 4* status. Facilities included: Fridge which cost a minimum of 18 euros+ 5 deposit? Safe again for a small fee. TV, which from our point of view was useless as it only received local or Spanish channels or CNN with no pay for view.
There was only one internet access point I was aware of, in the main lobby but it was usually occupied by children on one of the chat rooms.
The balcony was from our point of view a major disappointment and was overlooked directly by the adjacent hotels balconies some 20 or so yards away. If you like to spend a little quiet time on the balcony sipping your Cubra Libra this is not the hotel for you.
The restaurant is very pleasant and plenty large enough to seat the occupants of the hotel and i did not experience any waiting for tables. The food was good quality and there was plenty of it . The bar service was also good and prompt if a little on the expensive side unless you remembered to ask for the locally made cheaper drinks, spirits especially.
There was some children’s entertainment although it was very poorly attended because of the lack of places outside where they could hold their activities and the size of the pool.
The adult Cabaret was very basic indeed.
The pool was also very small and I counted 80 sun beds around it all about 6 inches apart, there are 161 rooms in the hotel with an average of 2 people per room. So you can guess the scene at 8.30 in the morning with people struggling to get their towels on their beds before any one else.
The resort consists of some pleasant little shops and bars although I found it difficult to locate a good quality restaurant that may have been due to my poor knowledge of the area.
In all I would have to say that I would not go there again, although I do not regret going this time, I expect a little more of a four star Hotel, I felt the lack of grounds and space really limited the hotels appeal although they have done the best with what was available.

Really pleased with this hotel. Staff...

Jun 2006, Mrs C Thomson

Really pleased with this hotel. Staff were all polite and friendly. Hotel kept spotless. Rooms were large with plenty cupboard space, bathroom good size also the balcony a decent size. Cleaner was excellent, room got a good going over every day and sheets changed 3 times in our week there.
Breakfast had a good choice only thing not good was the fruit juice (came from a machine and was far to sweet, really flavoured water.) Evening meal had lots of choice soup, large salad buffet, which was very good, main course usually about 4 fish dishes, 4 meat dishes, 2 pasta dishes, vegetables and different kinds of potatoes.
The chef also freshly prepared 1 different kind of fish and meat each night and good choice for desert. Large dining room but it didn't have a Butlins feel to it and you were never rushed.
There was entertainment every night but never went to it as the world cup games were on in the bar upstairs.

The Sirius hotel offers a good standard of accommodation. The hotel is situated not far from the beach and has a roof top swimming pool.
The staff in the hotel were very friendly and went out of there way for you. The only thing I found fault with the hotel was the lack of entertainment, however you can go in to the next resort of Malgrat de Mar for bars.
Santa Susanna its self is quiet and has a shingle beach which can be reached through an underpass, as there is a train line that runs along the coast line.

Hotel was lovely, very clean and...

Jun 2006, Miss L Clark

Hotel was lovely, very clean and rooms were reasonable size. Pool area was nice although pool absolutely freezing! Hotel has sauna and Jacuzzi which is good if weather bad any day or if you fancy a lazy afternoon.
Entertainment in hotel was poor and not really catered for British but there are lots of bars a short walk from the hotel which are cheaper and more fun. Food good, plenty of choice particularly if you like fish. Hotel close to beach and in good location for the Santa Susanna train station if you want to go to Barcelona (6 euros return and very easy to get there).
The resort of Santa Susanna is to the left of the hotel and is much cleaner and more modern than Malgrat. Market on a Tuesday in Santa Susanna is good but very busy so probably not worth visiting with young children or anybody who has walking difficulties. Malgrat is short walk to the right of the hotel and is a very built up resort.
Behind the tacky front, the traditional Spanish streets are lovely to see and it is worth taking the walk. Overall an enjoyable stay and would return.

Jun 2006, Mr J Hay

A very nice hotel always clean the food is good it has a nice sauna Jacuzzi and steam room and Gym to relax at the end of a hard days sunbathing.
The towels are changed everyday and the bedding every other day the pool is small but very nice its on the 3rd floor and the hotel has only got 5 floors so its just great no queuing as such at meal times. the doors to the pool area don’t open till 9 o clock so there tends to be a queue then.
The rooms are spacious with plenty of storage space a nice balcony and all the rooms are on the side so no actual sea views you can see the sea from the left side of the hotel if you want a sea view and are willing to pay the 2 apartments overlooking the pool are suites and have a front view. Overall a very nice hotel which I shall visit again.

I have just returned from hotel...
10 / 10
Jul 2005, Miss T Sneddon

I have just returned from hotel Sirius on the Santa Susannah resort in Costa Brava. It was an amazing holiday and I can’t wait to book next years break. I’m 18 and I went to the resort with my boyfriend.
The hotel itself was amazing with pleasant staff who can all speak brilliant English and are always there to help. The room was lovely and was cleaned and the sheets were changed every day. We had a lovely balcony to sit on with a patio set and a great view of the sea.
We went half board and the meals were delicious and there is so much to choose from it literally caters for all tastes. We had great entertainment 2 days of the week, which were the Brazil show and a tropicano show.
The rest of the week it was just singers and the kids disco. There are some great pubs/clubs on the resort including the ship, QK, tropicano and pub I can’t remember the name of but you can get a litre of beer for 3 euros.
By the way if you miss an English cup of tea which u cannot get in the hotel go over to the ship and have a full English breakfast and a big cup of proper English tea it was delicious and its served until 2 o clock! There is a lovely market every night with all kinds of things being sold and a main market on a Tuesday morning.
The beach was nice though it is a shingle beach, which a little annoying but we rented 2 sunloungers and a parasol every day for 12 euros but some people to prefer to buy them from the Sirus hotel supermarket we just couldn’t be bothered to carry there every day. The beach is about 5 minutes from the hotel if that. We booked the Barcelona excursion from airtours and though it was a really long day it was totally worth it.
We went to Camp Nou, the Olympic stadium, the harbour and then shopping. The travel rep at the hotel is Nicky and she is really nice. We also went to marineland and watched the dolphin and seal shows which were brill and there’s also a big water park there too.
Overall I think hotel Sirius is the best place I’ve been in a while and I would totally recommend it to anybody.

First and foremost, the hotel was...
8 / 10
Jun 2004, Miss K M Jefford

First and foremost, the hotel was gorgeous!!! My partner and I have just returned from two weeks holiday at this hotel, and it was definitely well worth it. Other so-called 4 star hotels in the area looked nothing compared to ours. The rooms are nice and clean, with the maids coming in everyday. The jacuzzi was brilliant, and although the gym was very basic, who goes on holiday to work out??? All areas of the hotel were cleaned vigorously every day also - the cleaners never seemed to stop!!
The resort itself is very nice, although not the liveliest; the hotel is in an ideal spot! On the actual border between Santa Susanna and Malgrat, you are only a two-minute walk from all the action - yet have the advantage of being situated in the nicest, newest and cleanest resort in Costa Brava. The beach is a short walk across the road, and I would not advise to pay for the sun loungers and umbrellas. 4 euros each per day including the umbrella, for a couple that would be 12 euros a day. Our rep advised us to buy an umbrella from one of the shops for about 4 euros, and you can use it for the entire holiday.
There is a good selection of English bars around, including 'The Ship' directly across the road, Phil the owner provided a brilliant atmosphere to watch all the England Euro 2004 matches!!! Trust me it was manic!! Just around the corner from the hotel is 'The Station', a much more relaxed atmosphere generally, yet they have karaoke nights, which are good. Finally, further along into Malgrat there are 'The Rovers Return', which we personally didn’t go into, as it looked more for older generations (we’re only 21!!), and 'The Robin Hood'. Being from Nottingham we had to give this a try, although I would warn you, if you win the raffle beware of the sack!!!
Excursions I would recommend are the Barcelona Fountains - breath-taking - and the waterpark! I do not recommend the jeep safari for those of you who are afraid of heights - the driving along those mountain edges I will never forget!! I have no real negative points about the hotel and resort - although the breakfast isn’t exactly the best I’ve ever had - yet I would advise anyone travelling with My Travel that if you book an excursion and need to cancel it for any reason - you’ve not got much chance of getting your money back!! Jane the rep, however, was brilliant!!
