the hotel was clean and rooms were basic but suitable enough to sleep in. food tended to remain the same day after day and not alot of variety. staff were friendly and drink was reasonably priced. we would not visit again and wont recommend to anyone. had to pay for tv. no fridge. safe located in reception. good location but wont be returning

Worst Hotel I have ever been to

Oct 2010, jacqui_o

This hotel is not in santan susana........... It is in malgrat de mar..... The hotel registration certificate is posted on the wall with the address...
if you like boiled fish every day then this is the place to go....they also serve rabbit.....they had some kind of bones that had a little bit of meat on it......if you are a veggie then sorry your only options is salad and grated cheese and if they had chips on then chips....
the breakfast choice is terrific...... The hotel is immaculate. You could not fault it.......
the beds are fantastic....... As for sockets in the room... Well 1 is right in the middle of the bed and the other is under the light switch outside the bathroom door...
the swimming pool is tiny and in the height of the season would be no use to man nor beast.........
everything you have read about the noise is true.......the live entertainment went on till midnight every night, even with the patio doors double glazed and closed you could stillhere it.........
must admit we did nto have a great deal of trouble with noise from the disco, only a couple of nights when it was emptying but then this is 28-09 till the 5-10. So would be different in the height of the season...
this hotel and area are prodominately german and duch and htis is reflected in the food choices...
one recpetionist was terrific, sadly the other left alot to be desired.....
if you book this hotel do not take the half board option. Waste of money as yu will most likel yhave to eat out at night.........

bad holiday

Aug 2010, jules

Would not visit this hotel again, food was disgusting, cold and sometimes under cooked, staff very rude and unhelpful (except the bar staff) receptionist did not want to help with issues, We were a bed short which was not resolved until the next day (they let us sleep on the floor) It is not my fault, is it not my problem, was the response. Sorry I thought they worked there. Could never see the manager of the hotel. The hotel was clean is the only good thing I can say. Disco next doors keeps you awake until 0600 as it is very loud. Not a place to go if you want to relax. Bad service, rude staff, got nothing nice to say

Noisey
4 / 10
Jul 2010, John Newark

I too read the reviews about this hotel.
We have just got back from Santa Susanna this being our second visit to the area.
Previously we stayed at the Aqua Marina Hotel a few hotels south of the Riviera Hotel my complaint then was the hotel sounded hollow and noisey.
The Riviera Hotel was VERY noisey, people walking up and down passage was very loud, the walls are paper thin. We could not have an early night because of the entertainment at the ajacent hotel. If we closed the patio door it was too hot and the air-condition did not work the entire week.
The evening meal was like something from a works canteen scramble. Most meals were tepid unles you waited for the meal pans to be re-filled

  • Advice: forget it.

Have just returned from 4 nights in the Riviera Hotel in Santa Susanna with my friend. When we got there in the morning the lady at the desk was very friendly and when we got to the room we were impressed at how nice it was, VERY comfy beds with a balcony and cleaned daily by really nice cleaning staff.
There was a bit of a sound clash between hotels at night untill 12oclock so not too bad if your going out but a bit irritating if you need an early night.
the evening buffet made my heart sink, there were things like tinned ravioli and frozen breaded chicken and other such delights and it seemed to get worse and worse each night, not helped by the rude lady who shouted at us in spanish when we sat down dispite being told at the door we could sit anywhere and regularly screwed up her face in disgust at other guests. None of the food is labled so its a bit of a lottery, i tried most of the stuff but was very happy to be home to eat a proper meal. I was glad the breakfast was a lot better with a choice of continental or full english.
A couple of points about the resort... there is very little spanish culture which is a shame, every shop is full of the same souvenirs and tacky tshirts, and the restaurants just seem to serve pizza and chips. It rained a couple of days and it was sad that there was nothing else to see. We asked the reception staff about train times to Barcelona or if there was anywhere they reccomended for us but they seemed like we had put them out by asking and were very unhelpful.
Beach is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and quiet, lovely to spend the day there and I reccommend the Maui Bar.

My partner and i have just returned from a week half board at the Riviera. We found the hotel to be of a good standard and the staff to be friendly and helpful if a bit grumoy at times. We did not use the pool but chose to go to the beach most days which is lovely if you can stand the massage ladies and the lucky lucky men!! The hotel was clean, our rooms were cleaned daily and towels also changed daily. The food was good, there was a lot of variety. The only downside was the noise levels at night as mentioned in other reveiws the hotel does seem to have to compete with the opposite hotel for entertainment and as we were on the first floor right above the stage it was difficult to get an early night. We chose to venture out of the hotel most nights and found a bar named Murphys just around the corner that sold 2 pints for 3 euro. If you are looking for an relaxing holiday with a few cheap nights out you can not go wrong here.

Me and my mum have just returned from a 4 night stay at the riviera, and having read some of these reviews we were a little apprehensive but decided to go 4 it as we managed 2 get a very good deal. Upon arrival to the hotel we were pleasantly surprised, the reception area was very cleaning and when language became a slight barrier with the receptionist he came up to the room with us to show us what he had been trying to say, very helpful i hope you agree. once we entered the room it was very basic but clean so was fine for what we needed, the disco next door was still in full flow but with the door closed it was barely audiable and it finished at midnight each night so was not really a problem especially as entrance to the hotel was free so we went there on 2 of the nights.
At breakfast there was a wide choice both continental and cooked.the dining room was also very clean and self service meant that you could eat as much or as little as you liked. The evening meal on the other hand was not so great as i only eat chicken and my mum doesnt really like red meat, there was only chicken 1 evening and the other 2 it was all red met so we lived on salad and soup both of which were rather nice but we didnt feel we were gettin the best for our money.
The swimming pool area was cleaned every morning and the man was very methodical. Overall i would recommend a stay at the riviera but perhaps on a b and b basis. We found all staff were very helpful and the hotel does put on entertainment every night but even if that isn't your cup of tea all other hotels in the resort offer free entertainment as well. I have written this review because i believe all of the previous negative reviews are complete nonsense as we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

My cousin and myself have just returned from a weeks break at this hotel, the reception and bar staff are extremely helpful, no complaints about the hotel itself, pool area is quite small in comparison to the size of the hotel, food was nice enough, most people are quite friendly but some very arrogant people.
Nice place and would definetly return back to this resort and hotel again.

Just arrived back from a weeks half board at the riviera, hadn't read any reviews on hotel as it was an A.O.A holiday. Having been told which hotel we would be staying in, we were informed by a fellow passenger on the coach that the riviera was not a very good hotel, regarding food and accommodation! and disco next door would keep us awake.
First impressions of the hotel set our minds at ease, The hotel was extremely clean, towels changed and rooms cleaned daily. food was varied and plentiful catering for many nationalities. staff were friendly and helpful esp. bar staff.
There are plenty bars and restaurants to choose from including the Rovers return were soap addicts can get there daily fix!. there's plenty of evening entertainment mostly in other hotels which are free to enter. overall it was a stress free holiday in a great resort .would definitely recommend the hotel,Ferris. and resort and will be returning again

I felt I had to write this review as I had checked other reviews of this holiday and to be honest was not looking forward to our holiday at all. We went as part of a party of 10 age range from 2 yrs to 64 and found the holiday a real blast. The coach trip was fine arrived at hotel early and reception staff very helpful, rooms clean a bit cramped with 4 in one room but we managed, maids very pleasant and efficient, hotel very clean and ALL staff very nice and friendly. The restaurant was busy but 815 for breakfast and either 615 or 830 for dinner good times, all food hot and quite varied im quite fussy so for two days lived on chips but the rest of our gang managed ok. The surrounding areas were nice, markets and evening stalls line the street again stall holders friendly, the beach was lovely and you can even get free parasols if you want enough sunbeds and the guys that sell the sunglasses etc will do you a deal, the donwfall on the beach is the fruit seller (what a con) and the chinese massage people otherwise great. The trains are very good to get about on but only get oneway ticket as the return ticket lasts for 2 hours only so you end up having to buy another one to get home but you can get off at catallonia for Barcelona where you can get a site seeing bus or walk around all in all its worth it. We were so impressed with the hotel and resort we wanted to stay for another week, we will definately be going again.
