The worst hotel in Costa Brava
1 / 10
Sep 2010, lexav

Don't stay here...pay an extra buck and go to another hotel.
It has the worst services I have seen so far on the Mediteranean coast.
1. Svetlana- the receptionist has the customer service skills of a hunter-gatherer. She hunts your passport, so don't leave them over night. While I was there, 3 families losts their flights cause the receptionists lost their passport. Lots of Russians and Romanians there, too. Some with loud children.
2. Food sucked.Unclean tables, glasses looked not rinsed at all. You have to pay for your water in the restaurant, and the house wine is just not good enough, but in tone with your meal.
3. Rooms do have toilets and air-conditionning, but they are not always working. The air conditioning was stopped by the hotel when I visited for no apparent reason, other than to save mone on electricity. The explanation I got was in Spanish, so I can't reproduce, but had something to do with the fact tha the hotel decided "its cold enough".
Also, rooms are thin walled and ou can hear what everybody on the floor is doing.
4. Location is good, because is near the train station to Barcelona.Otherwise, it's far from all forms of entertainment.
My advice: don't go there if you value your few days off. If you don't care about your time quality, it's the perfect place to go, cause it's cheap and you can met other people like you, meaning retired.

  • Advice: it's awful, find another hotel

Agree with everything that Mrs A Nightingale said in Oct 2004 about this hotel. Modern unfussy hotel, very clean, great food - buffet-style with lots of Catalonian dishes to try. Rooms can be a little noisy though if located overlooking reception and if you are a noisy snorer you will be heard as the walls are thin! Luggage locker room on the reception floor is useful. Ask at reception for TV remote - deposit required. Most nights hotel had entertainment although we were in a party of over 200 Salsa dancers (booked in at three hotels including the Caprici and Caprici Verd) and had our own.
Weather, last week in May, cloudy, sunny and hot (hottest day 28 degrees C). Sea felt warmer than hotel pool.
Shops and bars and supermarkets all within walking distance.
Club Tropicana about ten minutes walk away towards Malgrat. You can't miss it - a 20' tall Carmen Miranda graces its roof! Club popular on Friday nights with locals.
While resort 'feels' safe you are still advised not to walk alone back late at night, while main road is well lit you will pass several areas of scrubland.
Barcelona only an hour away by train. Trains clean, efficient and on time - watch out for the traveling buskers who board and serenade you whether you like it or not and then pass the hat around.
Tossa del Mar makes a nice easy day trip - two stops on the train to Blanes, take bus at railway station to Lloret bus station (20 mins) then second bus (20 mins) ride on hair pin bend roads to Tossa del Mar bus station. Transport is on time and tickets are cheap. Lovely cafe on the walls in the old town overlooks the bay.

Lovely clean quiet hotel with friendly staff, over looking the beach, some entertainment every night even though it was October, food was good and varied although the hotel catered more for the German clientele, who made up 90% of the guests. There was also a small ‘Kids Club’. It was on the edge of Santa Susanna, and took about 10mins to walk to the shops. The resort was in a great position for getting about due to the close vicinity of the railway, which runs along the front, we travelled into Barcelona by train which took approx. 1 hour, and another day to Blanes approx 20 mins. Very cheap way to travel. There is also a little beach train/bus which tours the resort and well worth a trip. We had glorious weather in the high 70's every day, and often went to the beach, unfortunately the sand which is course slopes steeply into the sea and would be unsuitable for small children but on the whole a good clean resort fairly quiet but plenty of bars and shops.
