Stay for one night only
I have stayed repeatedly at the South Lodge Hotel on conferences over the last three years. My recommendation is that it's a great hotel to soak up the atmosphere of a country house on the South Downs - for one night. After that, the hotel is a bit tiresome. Showers do not hold a constant temperature, leaving you at the mercy of the toilet flushing habits of your neighbors. That is, if you get a room that has a shower at all. Walls are paper thin. Watch out for the room over the bar. While in bed, you'll feel like the bar patrons are... more
Spring treat
South Lodge is an old country house with much history (carefully explained in the hotel literature), located in a small village quiet a few miles away from the A23. There is a large hall like reception area, the staff are very friendly, explaining the fluffy dog is the hotel's do not disturb sign. We booked a junor suite with views over the south downs, this was in the new section, complete with large bathroom, kingsize bed, sitting area and an outside terrace! We didnt try the resturant, but the room service food and breakfasts are... more
Wonderful hotel
Just go back from South Lodge in Lower Bedding what a wonderful hotel and I am normally very critical. I dislocated my Knee 2 months ago and on check in we were offered a groun floor room but we decided I could manage the stairs so Simon the Duty Manager offered my a piggy back up the three flights. When we got to the room it was beautiful but Simon called abd asked if we wanted one with a South Downs View. It was excellent just as beautiful ast the first with wonderful views of the downs and hot air ballons. We went to the outdoor Champange... more
One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in....
I booked this hotel based on the reviews I read on Trip Advisor and I wasn't disappointed. We had a Luxury Double Room with views over the South Downs which were fantastic. The service was excellent and the staff were polite and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. I must admit it is pricey but for a special occasion it certainly won't disappoint you. Make sure you get a chance to have a glass of Champagne in the new Champagne Bar.
Refreshingly cheerful staff
Part of the Exclusive Hotels small chain, this country house hotel is made special by the quality of its staff. Exclusive Hotels know how to find cheerful and efficient staff! The hotel is very peaceful, being set 93 acres of gardens. My mother and I spent two nights here and were pleased with our rooms/suites, especially Smithy which is part of a new conversion. Exclusive Hotels understand that guests want large rooms and spacious bathrooms with great walk-in showers as well as baths. They also provide rooms on the ground floor, as... more
Relax in Style at the South Lodge
100%, 24 carat, unadulterated pure decadence. Beautiful grounds, staff who cannot do enough for you and wonderful, well-appointed, luxurious rooms. Restaurant is mind-bendingly delicious with sensitive and polite staff who'll make you feel like a king even on a pauper's budget. One of the sexiest, most indulgent places we've ever stayed in.
A great place to relax
This is a fantastic and understated hotel. The views and countryside are magnificent and the service faultless and discreet. The rooms are really big and the restaurant is definitely 5 stars, although a bit pricey. We went on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis which is extremely good value but make sure you arrive hungry for dinner as it is quite rich. There is an air of peace and tranquillity in the hotel and we definitely found our stay relaxing. I would highly recommend it.
Great Staff,Cracking Bedrooms
Ask for the room Lady Bessborough, it has alittle balcony overlooking the South Downs. For a posh hotel the staff are really friendly. It just all seemed to work . Just dont try afternoon tea and dinner the same day as we couldnt manage breakfast on the sunday. we will be back
Excellent hotel! Highly recommended!!
South Lodge is a superb country hotel. The bedrooms and public areas are beautifully furnished. Staff very attentive and courteous. Although it has been recently extended to incorporate large function rooms, it has managed to hold on to its elite charm. Rooms in the new extension are equally as lovely as in the old part. Great care has been taken to retain the olde worlde feel throughout whilst indulging in mod cons of jacuzzi baths and flat-screen TVs. Open fires, wood panelled rooms, comfy leather sofas/chairs all add to the decadence.... more
