Clarion Hotel and Leisure Centre Gatwick

Pretty good is all I can say. Rooms a little small but very nice - well the one we are in is clearly refurbished. Air con but no heating that we can work out, but you need a degree to work the aircon - there are no instructions which we founf, luckily same control panel as at work! Restaurant - we thought could be ok! Our first of many waitresses could not understand English that well - so we ended up with pints of beer instead of bottles, water was only served to my girlfriend. I stayed on a Saturday night at the Internet rate of 56 pounds and was very happy. Room was a good size, bar food good and also not too much overpriced for an airport hotel. Staff very good. This will be my regular Gatwick hotel from now on.

We booked the Clarion Hotel for one night and parking before going abroad. Upon arrival we were asked if we wanted to upgrade for £20 to an executive room. This included complimentary breakfast, 2 hours free access to the executive bar, upgraded room with bathrobe. We did this and found the room to be stylish but on the small side. yes its close to the airport but...the rooms were tiny we upgraded to find they were also tiny the telephone didnt work which meant no morning call, they said someone would knock on the door, again this never came, barely anyone spoke english so had a lot of trouble communicating anything, problems with facilities and problems with the restaurant and restaurant staff and made us pay twice for the shuttle bus. the biggest mistake i have ever made. a nightmare from start to finish

I cannot believe that this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. The twin room that I was initially given had mould throughout the bathroom. I complained and was shown 3 other twins as alternatives - all with varying degrees of black mould everywhere. I was staying with a friend and we ideally wanted a twin room but when I saw the state of these, I asked the hotel for a double instead. This hotel is great if you intend to fly from Gatwick airport and wish to stay a night or two before or after your trip. Every staff member we met was helpful and professional. I have stayed twice at this hotel, once in an executive room and once in a standard room, I have no complaints with either, although would recommend to upgrade if available. Food is excellent although it is a rather limited bar menu. This hotel was a great start and end to my holiday!

For a one night,airport stop-overs this hotel is great. The rooms are small,just room for two single beds(no chairs). We didn't eat in the hotel,as the town is only 10mins walk away,with a TFA fridays(?) pubs,mcdonalds,kenntucky,etc. The Gatwick shuttle (not run by the hotel)runs from early in the morning, for about £2.5 per person(discount rate tickets, available from reception) children seem to be free. Hotel rooms have no air conditioning,but the window open wide. Good Cinama near the mcdonalds 10mins away.

We stayed overnight in a 'Family Room' which was one double bed and a sofabed. The room itself was OK, but we had a room on the 3rd floor. The refurbishment meant that you had to take the lift to either the second floor and walk through wher they were laying new carpets and then carry your bags up one flight of stairs to the third floor OR take the lift to the fourth floor, then walk the length of the hotel and carry your bags down a flight of stairs to your room. From the moment the coach driver yelled at me for "cheating" and "Trying to beat paying" (I had thought the airport coach was complementary) I should have known! This hotel is a disaster. To get to my room I had to take the lift up four flights, walk the length of two long halls, walk down a flight of stairs and the walk another long hall. Other hotels refurbish by floor; they do it by sections making it very difficult to get to a room. The customers' comfort and convenience seems irrelevent to them. This hotel is undergoing refurbishment. There were workmen walking around on scaffolding outside my room window. The inroom airconditioning did not work. There was the sound of constant hammering. The bathroom extractor fan did not work and the water flow from the basin tap was a dribble. I asked for a smoking room and was given a non-smoker. There was no alternative room available when I complained and I asked for and received a full refund before going to another hotel. My advice is to avoid this hotel until the refurbishment is... more
