" Iberostar Suites Hotel Islantilla "

We travelled over the half term break week - 18th October - our party consisted of 5 people - 2 adults, 2 over 65 yrs and 1 child of 5 yrs.
We were slightly put off this hotel as other hotel review websites gave this hotel & resort bad press, so we were quite anxious on arrival - but goodness knows why!!!
Resort transfer from Faro to the Iberostar Suites took about an hour - this was direct in a minibus.
First impressions were 'WOW' - the reception is huge, light and airy. The reception team met us with a smile and spoke perfect English (again, other reviews said English was not spoken at all???).
The rooms are beautiful, again, huge light and airy. We had booked 2 junior suites with a pool view. We were given 2 rooms next to eachother. All rooms had air con (which doesnt work unless the balcony door is closed!!) and there is ample storage space for luggage, clothes etc. The maid service is daily and you can even choose a preferred time of cleaning!! There is also a fridge - which acts as a minibar upon request - otherwise useful to store water / drinks purchased from the local supermarket!
The hotel itself is kept spotless and up to date with decor etc. There is a small shop in reception that sells papers, suncream, sweets, post cards etc.
The bar staff are excellent, again, all speak English - although we do like to converse in Spanish to the best of our ability and this is always welcomed with a smile - buy a dictionary before you go and respect the country you are visiting - speak their language!!
The pool area is large with ample sunbeds & umbrellas - there were no towels put out on the beds to reserve them which was great! Pool area is clean and tidy and there is a small kiddies pool with water jets. The only downside here was that the poolside snack bar was not open at all during our stay (coming to the end of the season we were advised....) There is a lovely indoor pool with jacuzzi, gym and a 'Thai Spa' center (about 100€ per treatment though!!)
The restaurant again had ample tables that seated from 1 up to 6 people and the food was buffet style. Lots of choice...lots of meat / fish and lots of pasta dishes..salads...soups....paella...the list is endless! Lovely puddings and icecream daily!! One thing we did notice was that the food was never 'too hot' - again, the restaurant staff were polite and courteous throughout our stay!
The hotel run kids club was superb and the 3 Iberostar staff (Claudia, Anna & Peter) did a fantastic job of keeping everyone entertained - this is not forced upon you either, so you can choose to participate or not. The kids club was well run and organised and kept the little ones entertained during 2 sessions a day - from 4 to 11 yrs old and runs from 10.30 - 12.45 and then 3.00 - 4.45 daily (Wedsnesday is day off!). Claudia had endless enthusiam, bags of fun and treated every child (no matter what nationality) with care and attention. The entertainments team really made this holiday for us as our little girl was having such a good time. The eve entertainment was of a very high standard and different shows each night - quite late though and didnt start til 10pm and so we only made a few appearances!!
The resort itself is very Spanish (we were in Spain afterall!!) and as the season was coming to an end, quite a few restaurants were closed - BUT - that doesnt mean to say that there is nothing to do or nowhere to eat / drink etc!!! The local 'Commercial Center' has ample eating places for lunch, drinks, coffees/reas etc and has some lovely shops and a cheap supermarket too! There is also a Pharmacy here - only a 5-10 min walk away. It is a shame to say that there is even a 'Burger king' here - of which we stayed clear of!!!
The beaches are beautiful & very safe - soft golden sand and shells everywhere! We had great fun collecting shells and walking for miles along the beach.
The neighbouring villages of La Antilla & Isla Cristina are not tourist developed at all but are worth a visit to see the fishing boats, spanish holiday homes - again as this was end of season, nothing was open!
Our point worth noting is that the hotel picture in the Thomas Cook brochure doesnt show or mention the fact that there is another hotel directly facing or overlooking the Iberostar. The 'Puerto Grand Antilla Hotel' is directly facing this hotel and stands between the beach and the Iberostar - this doesnt affect quality or enjoyment, but when we walked out to the pool area it was a case of 'Oh, didnt know that was there!!'. If you look on Google Earth, you can see exactly what i mean!
Overall, we had a fabulous time. Weather, hotel, food was excellent and we will be booking to go again. We wouldnt go high season as we dont like crowds or mass market resorts...but if you are looking for a good quality hotel, are willing to speak or have a go at speaking the local dialect and visit a resort that is not a typical british resort then you will love the Iberostar Islantills Suites hotel!!!

" Stayed at this hotel with my company... "

Stayed at this hotel with my company Future Travel which is part of United Co-op trading group.

We held a conference at this hotel and stayed for 3 nights on AI. The hotel was lovely really clean with typical Iberostar service. Although I wasn't too impressed with AI I would have been more than happy on HB.

I say this because there aren't really any snacks to speak of during the day except rolls and cheese/ham.

The pool side bar was very nice but did not serve any food at all. It is not a typical AI so not worth doing unless you want to drink yourself silly!!

Food was lovely though and I would go again definitely.
