Allesley Hotel Coventry

We booked three rooms as part of a fly and stay package prior to a very early flight from Coventry Airport, having travelled down from the North east. We advised the hotel that we would have a very early start but they failed to tell us that there were two Christmas parties booked in as well. So no sleep... Transport was needed for 7 adults, one child and all our baggage. We were crammed into two taxis - one of which arrived 15 mins late. Ok. I discovered these reviews after the MIL had booked our hotel rooms. I was dreading the stay but comforted myself with the thought that it was only one night and might not be as bad as everyone said. However, I can confirm that every complaint here is absolutely correct: STAFF - many do not speak English and (apart from elderly chap on reception) are disinterested and unfriendly. Attending a recent wedding, we were allocated rooms in this hotel, which is set in a lovely village. However, the hotel itself has obviously had no care and attention spent on it in several years. Mildew in more than one of the bathrooms, which only contained a small shower. The previous shower doors, probably broken, had not been replaced but had improvised and dirty curtains hung inside, making the space even smaller. I stayed at this hotel for a weekend having requested an accessible room. I was located on the fourth floor which was extremely hot, and more importantly, in the event of an emergency I would have been stranded as I cannot manage stairs. The room was well furnished but sadly the carpet was filthy, and a strong damp smell drifted out from the bathroom which did not have disabled facilities. We have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel.Our expectations were of a budget hotel considering the seventy five pounds per night we paid.We were, however, pleasantly surprised.What we got was a warm and friendly welcome combined with a clean and functional room.We arived at approximately nine thirty after problems on the motorway.Reception informed us that although the restaurant had just closed,she would ask the chef if it would be possible for us to dine.We then ate a delicious meal with very attentive staff.If i was to... more

I booked 3 rooms here as it has a good location for the NEC where myself and 2 colleagues were working at the furniture exhibition. At £80 each it was inexpensive but i thought it was a safe-ish bet. The problems we encountered in just 3 nights are so numerous that i will have to make a list. 1. One room's shower didn't work. Despite this housekeeping switched luggage as "the hotel was full" and the room was re-rented with no shower. 2. Second room's bathroom was too cold to use. 3. I only stayed here one night as i was just in Coventry for the day. I checked in and received my "key card" to find it wouldn’t open my room, i returned to the reception and the card was reset it took 4 attempts to get into my room with return trips to the reception, this would have been ok but i was on the top floor and the lift was "out of order". While at reception i was asked if i wanted to book to eat with them tonight i said ok as i had never been to the area before and thought it would make life easier. I had to wait 1.5 hours... more

Well appointed rooms, very clean, excellent breakfast and good service. A little gloomy in places, and when a large function with disco is being held, it can be somewhat noisy. Situated in a lovely village, with helpful and pleasant staff. a pleasure to stay on the whole, and I shall use this hotel again.

Three of us stayed at the Allesley. The room was a problem. Finger marks on mirrors and crumbs on the floor prior to our arrival that were never cleaned through our stay. The shower curtain just touched the top of the bath, so when using the shower, the floor got flooded. The soap dish fell off in the bath. We have had dinner at the Allesley many times and it is a superb eating destination. Thank you to everyone there, especially Mary who has always been so welcoming and friendly. Excellent value and sevice.
