This budget hotel was ideal as my airport base stopover. It’s on the bus route to & from the train station ( Birmingham international) with the bus stopping right outside the hotel on the Coventry road price only £1.40 a taxi costs around £8 to the airport. It’s all... more

Brilliant for the price!
We booked 5 rooms as our family was over for a party. Could not fault the hotel. The rooms were spotless, when we asked for extra duvets and towels we got them no problem! We needed an iron and they gave us one along with ironing board for nothing. Really cant speak highly enough of the staff, especially the woman that was on during the day. Had a great time and if I needed to would defo stay here again.
Cheap, but you get what you pay for...
Stayed here for one night on business as part of my efforts to reduce expenditure in the credit crunch. Check-in simple and quick, no queue, parking immediately outside the hotel entrance and plenty of spaces. Room was on the 1st floor and very basic - one tiny bar of soap in the bathroom, and that was it - not even a bottle of shampoo, but the website had warned about this. Bed creaked and mattress not very comfy - pillows tiny and very flat. Two large stains visible on the duvet itself, through the cover. Peeled it back to reveal what looked like old blood stains - totally turmed my stomach and put me off my sleep. Budget hotel or not, this was totally unacceptable. Nice size telly and large sofa in room, but no alarm clock or telephone to set alarm via. Had to rely on my mobile phone to wake me up. Tiles around bath looked clean but there were some hairs stuck to them, which was off-putting, plus an old used plaster stuck on the carpet in the bedroom (not nice). Overall, large and cheap room - and you get what you pay for (£39). Would always choose a Holiday Inn Express over this, given the extra budget to spend.
Clean & cheap
We booked this room for £30 through the Travelodge website. We went to a concert at the NEC and this is just a few minutes drive away on one of the main roads into the city. The reception staff were very smiley and friendly and when I asked for more towels they were brought to the room in a matter of minutes. The room was cleam, the bed was very comfortable and the bedding fresh and soft to touch. Blackout curtains and no noise outside meant that we slept very well. Incidentally the Spice Buffet Restaurant next door is not bad for the the cheap price. Plus McDonalds across the carpark was useful for breakfast (not my usual choice of breakfast but it served a purpose today). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel - especially if visiting the NEC.
All you need for the price!
Although the area cannot be described as picturesque, if you are looking for a bargain stay in clean and well maintained accommodation then look no further. The hotel is on the main commuter route between the International airport / NEC, and the city centre. Public transport (bus) to both is easily accessible from the hotel. The hotel carpark is free, and although some previous reviewers mentioned problems with car crime, I did not notice any problems - CCTV on site - and I stayed 5 nights. The hotel staff were very friendly, and answered any queries easily. I had a ground floor room, and I found it to be spacious, with a comfortable double bed, bed settee, TV with small selection of freeview channels, and tea/coffee making facility (coffee/tea/sugar always topped up daily unlike some 4 stars I have stayed at!). The bathroom was very clean, and consisted of bath with shower (no plug though for those who enjoy a bath rather than shower - needed to ask for one at reception). The local shopping amenities are good - large supermarket, newsagents, and selection of takeaway food outlets including obligatory Balti takeaways, of course! You also have a pub/buffet restaurant in front of the hotel, and a McDonalds next door for those who like that type of thing. All in all, for the brilliant price (£19 per night), you get a basic hotel, but with all the basics packaged together reliably to ensure a very happy customer!
For the price its great.
I was initally worried about this as the reviews were not the best but it was cheap and I must say cheerful. Travellodege is renowned for having no frills but this is exactly what we wanted. I stayed with my mum and sister as we had a flight out from birmingham next morning. We arrived @ 2pm, the staff were more than helpful and advised us about going to the bullring shopping centre (which is no distance by bus). We ate at the spicebuffet right beside the hotel which looks a little rough and ready from the outside but once inside the place was spotless and the staff were nice. All in all I cant fault our experience. The room was clean, the staff were friendly and we were not totally secluded. Only bit of advise is do not get a black taxi from the airport as they are more expensive.
OK for the price
Considering the cost I would say this place to be a 4 overall even though it is very basic.. We stayed there at a discount rate of £25 per room , Im sure you will not find cheaper . We were there whilst visiting the NEC , a private hitre cab there was £8 and a black and white taxi back was £12 ( this is for 4.5 miles, you tell me !) Handy for pub , Mc donalds , shops etc . CCTV and Police van parked in car park so seemed a safe place to park . The room was average for a travelodge, nothing fancy but a comfortable clean bed, nice shower . No complaints at all and would stay there again at this price.
Very basic but just what we needed!
My Fiance and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in February 2007. We had booked the room online as a 'Super Saver' for £15 per night! THE ROOM: The room was basic, but clean. There was a double bed, pull out sofa-bed, table and chair, open plan wardrobe/shelves with a few hangers, a kettle, tea & coffee and a TV. Two bath towels were provided, but no hand towels or bath mats. This is part of their money saving scheme, but you can always ask some at Reception. The bathroom was clean, and provided a complimentary mini bar of soap. The shower was in good working order, with hot water available all the time. There was no phone in the room. There were 2 mini bedside tables and lights each side of the bed. THE HOTEL: The hotel itself looked generally clean, and identical in layout to most other Travelodges. The Reception staff were nice. The main front entrance gets locked at night, making you feel a little safer. There was a vending machine near Reception that sold drinks, snacks, chocolates, mini shampoo, toothpaste etc. Very pricey though so only if you're desperate! Breakfast is not included in the cost of your stay (another money saving scheme) however you can order some for £4.95 which you can have sent to your room at any time. Breakfast is cereal, milk, fruit etc. We decided to go out for breakfast as we felt it was too pricey for what it was. THE LOCATION: The Travelodge shares its car park with the 'Shooting Star' pub. Its a large pub with restaurant area and a 'Wacky Warehouse' play area for kids. Across the road there is a Chinese, Indian and Fish & Chip shop. There is a Mc Donalds next door too. Other than that, not much else in walking distance. A short drive in the car will take you past a retail park with 'Next' amongst the retailers. Also Asda, Tesco and many other supermarkets and car dealers! Birmingham City Centre is roughly 5-10 minutes drive. We parked at the 'Bullring' shopping centre for an extortionate cost! I would recommend finding somewhere else as it cost us £8 for 4 hours!!! OVERALL: We had a good time in Birmingham, We were visiting family and only needed somewhere comfortable, clean and cheap to stay and Travelodge Yardley was the perfect choice.
Handy for City centre
We had'nt originally intended to stop here but 3 days prior to the trip we were called and told our original hotel was not open due to building work and Yardley was offered as an alternative. As it was 10 days before Xmas and a shopping hungry girlfriend I decided to take the alternative offer. The hotel was a doddle to find from the motorway and there was an excelent bus service into Birmingham centre(exact fare only) which took 10 minutes. On a downside the hotel was in a area where car crime seemed rife. There was a car with a window broke in the car park and the nearby bar wasnt one to take your grandma although the locals did nt pester us.There was a McDonalds and a few local shops within a 2 minute walk. The hotel was standard travel lodge but was spotless clean, decent size room and the few staff were friendly and helpful. All in all for £15 per night it was a bargin.Other than the car crime problem which is a shame this hotel is great value for a city break in Birmingham.
trip nearly ruined by car thieves
On arrival we parked the car in the car park took our luggage out of the boot and checked in. After a quick shower and change of clothes we went outside to go out for conference meeting. on noticeing lights flashing on my car went to investigate. My rear window was smashed the rear seat folded forward and the boot had been ransacked . A small bag containing paperwork, plans etc... was missing. Nothing was on show. the staff were helpful but as you can imagine stay was already ruined. the hotel was ok but area it is in most definately not. Would not stay there again, anyone staying should be very cautious where you park your vehicle.
