Stratford Manor Hotel

My husband and I booked a last minute mid week break for 2 nights, we wanted somewhere quiet that had Spa facilities. When we checked in the reception staff were very helpful. We booked for a 2 night stay with dinner on the first night, but upon arrival we were informed that the restaurant was full that night, however they offered us the choice of restaurant food in the bar area or dinner in the restaurant on our second night. A car is def. needed for this hotel, but we knew that was the case when we booked - it is about a 5min. drive into town. The hotel is clean, warm and modern. The staff throughout the hotel were without exception, cheerful, obliging and very efficient. The room was clean, warm and large, complete with all the things you would expect, including trouser press, iron and ironing board etc. One down side was that the room (176) was the furthest from reception, and the nearest to the main road - with a fair bit of road noise.<br... more

You need a car to be at this hotel as it is a few kms outside Stratford. Everything everywhere in the hotel had been refurbished six months ago so it was all lovely and new. Very good service by all the staff. The room was nice and big - with duvets (none of those yukky blankets) and two confortable chairs, so no-one had to sit on the bed for relaxing. We had a great time at this hotel. We stayed for 2 nights as part of the hotels winter break offer which includes dinner on the first night. Excellent value. The check in was very efficient with friendly staff. Our room and the hotel in general were spotlessly clean throughout.The hotel is quite modern in its decor. Stayed here on business during the week. Whilst ours was a small conference, there was a large one happening at the same time, so avoiding busy times in the restaurant and bar became a game. Rooms clean and tidy, although some colleagues complained of a lot of traffic noise and one was moved. Restaurant meals became buffet style when very full, but the menu for table service was well varied, and cooked. We chose Stratford Manor for a family weekend away to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday. Having personally stayed in a couple of other Q Hotels and had fantastic service, we weren't disappointed. We particularly wanted somewhere with leisure facilities so we made good use of these, usually more than once a day and generally found them to be up to scratch although the changing rooms looked like they could do with an overhaul. We booked a special offer here and made the mistake of reading the website. This was some what in-accurate (and i note it has changed since). It was a classsic. "The restaurant with view over the nearby lake" ... well yes. It did have a view over the near by lake. The only down side was the carpark and main road that were between the dining area and said lake. A more accurate description would be "spectacular view over the car park". Service was a joke, service rubbish never seen this in Europe, it is a shame that the owners dont even care about their staff, manager never turned up when we complaned would never recommend to anyone

Often stay at Q hotels as they are good value and manage to cater well for us as a couple or when we travel with our children. This stay was no exception. If anything the staff were more friendly than we've ever experienced at Q and it's always been ok! Perhaps they are investing in their staff training and if so it is paying off.
