The hotel is steeped in history and has had some illustrious visitors over the last two centuries, from Royals to Norman Wisdom. At some point, presumably not that many years ago, the hotel became too expensive to run in such splendour and was taken over by Travelodge.
Good points. Bang in the centre of Leamington's attractive main street. Huge building, massive stairs and landings, and very large rooms. Built when money and space was no object. We didn't worry about the lack of proper breakfast facilities as the centre of Leamington is stuffed full of places to eat. Comfortable beds. Only one chair in the room (Travelodge policy, we were told) but we thought this bizarre for a room with two people in it..
Bad points: Pricey for a Travelodge, even in the centre of town. We paid £70 a night for two nights for a double room. We tried numerous times to log in to the £49 a night "deal" but website refused to accept our booking and kept switching us to the £70 a night booking. We were very suspicious as we wondered whether there were actually any rooms cheaper than £70!!
No parking at the hotel - and the local council seems to have declared war on the motorist. £1 an hour to park near the hotel between 8am and 6pm seven days a week, or £7 for 24 hours in the nearest multi-story. Gets very expensive over a few days.
Reception staff helpful but we thought they looked very scruffy. Front of building could do with a coat of paint It was starting to look run-down. But Leamington is a really splendid place to stay for a few days ..

May 2008, Mr P Herbert

No car park. Breakfast was some mush in a bag. Fortunately they ran out and we got a refund for that and got a far better deal from Weatherspoon's pub just over the road!
There was no indication beforehand that there were no proper arrangements for either parking of breakfast.
The hotel was derelict for a few years before the developers made a fortune by selling off the old yard and stabling for shops. The hotel was split in two with the old dining facilities turned into a bar and grill. Ghastly paint has been used to cover the fine architectural details of what once was a magnet and star feature of Leamington. What a travesty it is now.
Unless a new manager can buck ideas up then the rather unhappy staff will have many more unhappy customers.

Paid £15 for this room on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised.
Having stayed at the Macdonald hotel the night before for £55.
Arriving with a baby and child, I was quite apprehensive about the noise, with the hotel being on the high street and a bar underneath.
When booked, I enquired about the noise and the member of staff assured me that as long as I had a room at the back of the hotel, it should not affect me, and it didn't!
The staff when seen were very helpful.
Rooms were clean (stayed in room 210), parking didn't seem a problem parked 5 mins away from hotel, but to unload you can park outside the hotel for 10 mins.
The only problem I really had was initially finding it, the only tip I can give you is that it is opposite ELC next to Zizis.
There are plenty of places to eat, loads of places that do breakfast, Weatherspoons opposite hotel for lunch.
