Well run but one note of caution
from PaulanerDublin
The hotel is clean, the staff have good language skills, there is an open WiFi network which was sometimes reachable from the third floor where I stayed. The entertainment for the children is great the all seem to really enjoy it. There are children's play area's with slides, sand, see-saws and a separate pool for infants. The hotel is 30 metres from the beach. On the down side the weekly BBQ in the hotel is poor value and choice is limited. My word of caution concerns the painted stone surface around the pool area. It was lethal, even if your feet were dry. I was terrified when my toddler took off. He had a number of falls my wife too had a slip. Worst of all there are ramps leading down to play areas which had rubber strips to aid grip. However, the strips have completly worn away. Do not attempt to carry an infant down the steps or the ramp to the play area it's too dangerous! I don't want to put anyone off the hotel as apart from this concern it's the best of its kind that I have stayed in. The hotel is about 25 minutes walk to the centre of Alcudia. Some people like to be in the middle of the action and might not like the location of the Ivory Playa but to us it was fine. There is a large supermarket (Eroski) and bus stop to Alcudia very close by. The bus can be very crowded so be prepared to walk/cycle/taxi it. There is a smaller store that opens longs hours just around the corner from the hotel. It's a bit more expensive but at 8am you can get hot baguettes, pastries etc. We found Bailey's beside the large Eroski supermarket to do good breakfast and lunch. The service was very good too. The Restaurant Hawaii beside hotel does good takeaway pizza if fancy dinner on the beach. If you turn right exiting the hotel reception you will be heading towards Alcudia Port/Resort/Old Town. If you turn left there is a smaller but more than adequate tourist area called Playa Muro. We found Smyths to have a very diverse menu and the staff were the best we met in our two weeks. If you hire a bike just past Playa Muro is a National Park, it is huge if you fancy the cycle/walk. We found No Frills to a be reliable tour company. The Pirate Show in Magaluff was brilliantly choreographed but it is expensive. We were seated at a table with two other couples and the food was communal. It was poor quality and we found it was not enough to go around so we bought a packet of crisps from the bar which cost €2. I felt that the Inca Market trip we took was a waste of a day, the markets in Alcudia Old Town had the same wares. Not many bargains around at either though. I found the shopping in the backstreets of Palma more interesting and better value. There is a trip (Island Trip with No Frills or Orange Blossom Trail with First Choice) that encompasses a boat journey and a train ride through what I feel are some of the most scenic parts of the Island. I would recommend this and have included two pictures from the trip.

My husband, 2 year old and I stayed here for a week in early June and i agree with all the great reviews. The location is quiet and only 2 minutes away from the fabulous beach- though we spent the majority of our time at the apartments. They had a lovely kiddies pool and a few playgrounds. We ate in the poolside bar twice towards the end of our holiday and it was good though a little pricey for what we got. Evening entertainment was very good and while our little fellow was too young for the kids club, it seemed to be well run. We needed to call a doctor when we were there and he was with us in 45 minutes even though it was not an emergency - cost 65 euros. A great service indeed and great to have if traveling with children. We wanted to get the local bus into palma but they were all full one wet morning and we wish we'd just booked to go with your tour operator as we had been wating a half hour at the bus stop to find the bus when it finally arrived packed to capacity. No room for us or our buggy. Ate at roma restaurant a few times and it was fab and reasonable. |Restuarants up along the port are great too. I have never previously wished to return to any holiday accomodation before. However, will definitely return to these apartments again.excellent service and great location.
love the Ivory Playa would stay anywhere else

Just back from a 2 week holiday in the Ivory Playa in Alcudia with my 4 year old son and my fiancee,We had an absolutly wonderful time. The staff are all lovely friendly helpful people, We have no complaints and would have no problem in advising anyone to stay there, There was no troblem in trying to entertain our son or ourselves as there are a range of activities daily for all ages, even at night time there was a mini disco including games from 8-9 and then adult entertainment from 9.30. Its only a stones throw from the beach and few minutes walk to the town.Cant wait to return next year.
great for cyclists and families
from kimbaysun
stayed here with sport active 23rd March 07 for one week with 63 cyclists from Northern Ireland. Breakfast was not great (cereals were pathetic) but evening meal was quite good especially the fish. All hotel rooms had a kitchen which along with the supermarket across the road was a great advantage. A bus to Palma for 10 euros can be caught outside the hotel for anyone wanting a change of scenery or shopping. The weather for us was terrible but I can imagine from May to September this hotel would be adequate. Beach is about 2 minutes walk.
The Best Ever!!

We stayed at the Ivory Playa for the last 2 weeks Aug 2006. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. Reception staff were very courteous and helpful at all times. Our children (9 and 7 years) really enjoyed the day and night entertainment. Most of the latter was provided by the hotel entertainment team (Felipe, Denis, Charlotte, Paulina, Johanna). They encouraged participation (without much undue pressure). Some nights, there was entertainment from outside companies. Nothing spectacular, just good fun. The champagne bingo is good fun - keeps you on your toes! The hotel is not too big and good for family entertainment. Mixture of Irish and German tourists primarily. The entertainment team and reception staff had excellent english, spanish and german. Daytime entertainment was a good mix of archery, water polo, darts, volleyball and fun games for the kids (boules, darts, soccer, badminton). Close to the beach, on the bus-route, taxis about €7-8 each way to the 'port' (shopping/restaurants etc.) Recommend Restaurant Hawaii near the hotel. Also El Yate restaurant on the beach near the wooden bridge in the 'port' area. Kids can play on the beach right next to your table - watch the windsurfers crossing the water - great view up the bay from the tables. Recommend the BBQ night run by the hotel - good food. Keep the kids away from the 'Shirley Temple' cocktails or they'll be drinking them for the entire fortnight! Recommend the Hydro-park waterpark (kids less than 10-11 will enjoy it) at the roundabout before the 'port' - a good day out. Night at 'Pirates' in Magaluf is expensive but a fantastic show. Food provided but is only average - don't go there hungry. All-in-all, the kids enjoyed themselves thoroughly and the parents had a relaxing break. The kids want to go back again in 2007. Perfect for families.

Spend 2 weeks in the Ivory Playa July 2006. Expected a lot more from all the reviews I read prior to booking. Room service daily except Wednesdays and the buffet in the local restaurant was excellent. Ivory Playa is just a stones throw away from the lovely beach. We were given a road view room overlooking a local filling station with no possibility to upgrade to a pool view. We booked approx 9 months in advance asking for a pool view but still. The hotel is catering for the Germans with only about 10% other nationalities. We felt like outsiders and not very welcome unless it's your 10th time going there, they all knew each other and we could feel the atmosphere as it was only our first time there. The evening entertainment lacks a lot of confidence and is focused towards the kids till late in the evening, with very little for the adults. Wouldn't go there again or recommend it unless your German of course. We had a lovely time the year before just up the road in the Port D'Alcudia apartments and should have gone back there.
Fantastic hotel, location okay.

Myself, husband and 15 month old son stayed at the Ivory Playa in May 2004. The Ivory Playa is a really fantastic hotel - exceptionally clean, spacious 1 bed apartment, nice garden view, lovely looking pool and poolside bar. We went in May, which to be honest wasn't great. While the weather was warm enough - we wore t-shirts all the time -it was a bit too breezy and the pool was absolutely freezing. There was no-one in it for the whole week we were there. This I found really disappointing as I was soooo looking forward to chilling out beside it with a cocktail while my husband and son splashed around - this never happened! The beach next to the hotel is fabulous - really shallow and great for kids... All in all I thought the hotel was brilliant, however it is located very far away from the main resort. We tried walking it one day and after 45 mins gave up and turned back. We had to get a taxi every evening to the resteraunts at the Port of Alcudia. This cost us about 10 Euro each way, which made an evening out quite expensive I thought. The Port is nice - the selection of resteraunts is fairly limited though... We travelled with Panorma and the rep never appeared at our hotel any of the times we waited for her. Because of this and the lack of information in the reception area of our hotel, we didn't realise there was an Old town area or even a water park. Found this out when I came home -boy was I mad! ....All in all we had an enjoyable holiday ... I'd recommend travelling more mid-summer when there is likely to be more people there and warmer weather and a better atmosphere in general. The hotel is a little far out but if you don't mind taking taxis and really want somewhere lovely to chill out by the pool and beach then the Ivory is great. Enjoy.
Honeymoon at the Ivory Playa
from travelgal79
Myself and my husband stayed at the Ivory Playa apartments for a week in the Summer of 2003 for our Honeymoon. The apartment itself was exceptionally clean & spotless. We also had a beautiful view to the front of the hotel. The hotel staff were pleasent but not over friendly. The food in the hotel was very expensive and very poor portions, and it was recycled. The entertainment catered for middle aged couples not young people. The pool was beautiful. The area itself was extremely quiet. Any pub we went into, there was only about ten or twelve people in there. No atmosphere at all. It is very very expensive to bring enough money. Also, day trips are crazy expensive. It cost us nearly a hundred euro to see the pirates show which was really not worth it. Along with that its a couple of hours bus ride to any excursion. This area is more suited to a retired couple or people looking for a very quiet relaxing holiday. Summary: Hotel is fantastic, highly recommend it. Area: Expensive and no atmosphere at all. There is a beach a stones throw away which is very relaxing.

Loved Ivory Playa
from marygIreland
Stayed in a 1 bed apartment with our 2 kids aged 8 & 12 in 2002. Tried to go back in 03 & 04 - but due to popularity of this complex couldn't get it. Already booked it for 2006. The apartments itself is not huge - but is fine & any real cooking isn't an option any more than in any of these type of holiday apartments. But the standard of service is excellent - both in terms of the staff who clean the rooms & the complex & in the bar. Also the pool is lovely - & the crowning glory is the proximity to the beach. Alcudia has one of the best beaches for families in majorca & the ivory playa is one of the few available from ireland direct which offers air con & proximity to the beach. 2 other big bonuses are the big supermarket directly across the road from the ivory playa - has everything much more reasonable than smaller shops and finally the hush at night. Entertainment stops & sleep is available to all! Loved it - hope its as good next year ! Plenty of nice restaurants available round about & get a taxi to the old town & also to the port of alcudia - but the old town is my favourite!

What can I say about Ivory Playa? My first trip here was when I was 8 years old and now I've had my honeymoon there too. So I've been holidaying here over an 15 year period and would go back every year if I could (my wife wants to try somewhere different for some reason!)... more
