Travelodge Hotel Tamworth M42

I was booked to stay here for 4 nights but only stayed for one, as I found the hotel very much below par. I have stayed at budget places before (e.g. Premier Inn) and have found them to be fantastic. I was extremely disappointed with the Travelodge. I was visiting a friend near by and knew I was going to be checking in late, so I rang up to check this was okay, they said it was. Stayed here for one night and paid £30 for a double room, room only. The hotel is based in a motorway services so is quite noisy as you can hear the traffic most of the night and all day. There is parking right outside which is free but this is part of the services parking. Upon arrival the receptionist was miserable and clearly didn't enjoy her job or want to be there. Located in a motorway service area, but in a separate building. Convenient and cheap if you have to stay in the area, otherwise keep going. No problems with the lodge itself, just not a memorable experience.

I used to like the basic but consistent approach of Travelodges, you generally know you'll get a clean functional room and not much else, but that's ok as it's cheap. Recently I have started to notice in a few Travelodges that the level of cleanliness is not what it used to be, and this is no exception. The reception staff were pleasant and efficient but the first impression is of the stale smell in the corridors and the room. The room was dowdy and dingy and very sparse. Bathroom particularly shabby. Such a nuisance having to go to reception for basic toiletries and a hairdrier. This lodge is just not worth the £51.00 charged. Choose Days Inn or Premier Inn both of which are not far away and are of a similar price and much more guest friendly.

Woken up twice in the night by the sound of bins being emptied, presumably from the eating places nearby. It is located at a Services point and the M42 is a busy motorway... The room was clean but very basic and needs refurbishing, particularly the bathroom, where the sealant was mouldy around the bath and the chrome had worn away on the fittings. We stayed at this Travelodge as a stop-gap and, as with most Travelodges, it was cheap and cheerful. The receptionist was nice and friendly and the room was clean and modern. However, we were in a room which faced the back and there was a factory or something nearby which has a digger or JCB working all night. Also, the ceilings are quite thin for a Travelodge and you could hear the occupants of the room aboves movements very clearly. This hotel is fine for an overnight stopover. The no frills approach suited us fine. Hotel located next to Moto service area which includes an M & S simply food. We were warned about recent car crime so make sure you remove all valuables!

Used twice on a holiday to and from Scotland. On the way up we were allocated room 113, if you're offered this room don't take it as there is a fire door which slams shut every time it's used. On the way back we requested the quietest room in the place. The check in staff were more than happy to meet our request and we spent a very restful night in a room on the first floor at the back. This hotel is located at a motorway service station which includes a M & S Simply Food store. It is typical of the chain being very clean but basic and a little soul-less. Despite the location, the traffic noise is not actually too bad & the rooms do overlook a grassed area. It is a convenient and cheap option if visiting the NEC, being only a 20 or so minute drive. Not the sort of place you would want to spend a week, but absolutely fine for a night or two.
