Alcudia Hotel Reviews
" SPOT ON "
Submitted By: Rennie04Staff were excellent ; friendly helpful and appreciated any attempt to speak a bit of Spanish (quite badly in our case)
Close to the beach - only five minutes down the street. The Beach is great and ideal for kids.
The food was plentiful and varied with breakfast especially good for choice. Evening meal time was a bit of a bun fight on a couple of occasions. The problem being guests queuing up twenty minutes or so before their allocated time causing a bottle neck at the stairs and a mini stampeded when they were allowed in. Ate out on two occasions to avoid this.
The lunch time snacks were good value compared to the pricers of the beach side bars and worth the walk back from the beach
Activities for the kids were fine and they loved the pool although I would agree that it is slightly cramped around the side with the sunbeds right next to the pool but with the weather up in the 30's the odd splash came as a welcome relief.
The room was on the ground floor more or less next to reeption and we initially thought this may be an issue with people coming past and banging suitcases on the stairs but it actually worked out really well as it very handy for popping back and forward to the room quickly.
The Entertainment was adequate and exactly what you would expect from a 3 star Hotel and ran on a two week cycle so there were no repeat performances. Our kids are 11 and 9 and made new friends of similar ages and suggest the Hotel is more suited for families. I did notice that young couples looked a bit uncomfortable with the amount of kids having a great time by jumping, diving/bombing into the pool (along with some of their parents!)
Great family holiday overall.
Advice: Walk further along the beach to get away from the slightly smelly stagnant water near the harbour
Activities: Crazy Shark boat trip - just mental on a day where the sea was pretty choppy - HOLD ON TIGHT
Good for: Beach

" Very mixed feelings about this Hotel.... "
Submitted By: Mr D HarleyFamily of 4 with two kids aged 9 and 11.
Let me start by outlining the positives. (Same as some of those listed below to be honest)
The Hotel itself was very clean with fresh towels daily and bed linen changed twice per week.
Hotel staff very friendly and approachable and took the time to make conversation. (Mainly Bar staff and were very good with the kids)
Food was ok . ChIcken. Meat, Fish, Vegetable dishes so generally something for everyone. No themed nights tho . Been in other Hotels which organised specific nights and posted menu's beforehand but not here. Kids also struggled a little. Breakffast I have to say was very good offering full fry up, continental, fresh fruit etc.
Entertainment was good. All the usual activities including pistol and rifle shooting, archery, killer darts, pool, table tennis, water polo, Petanque. Evening entertainment was generally ok as well. Not the usual kids club tho where you sign the kids in and out and get a couple hours on your own. They tended to participate in all the sports listed above.
Also found Hotel prices very good considering the exchange rate at the time (1.22 Euro to the Pound).
Pint of lager 2.3 Euro and btl wine 5.6 Euro.
Hotel Location was excellent with a 5 minute walk to the harbor and beach.
So the negatives.
The room was very poor indeed. Soon as I opened the door I went back down to reception to try and get a move. We were in a single room, two single beds together with a set of bunks in the corner. No way was this a family room. Not a good start to the holiday.
The pool area was a joke. Packed in like Sardines with literally no room to move. The pool itself was far to small for the amount of people utilizing it. With the amount of older kids jumping in from the side I'm surprised that smaller kids were not landed on. No poolside attendant.
Set up for eating was extremely poor. Dining area was to small for the amount of people in the hotel. At breakfast it was difficult sometimes to get a table. Soon as somebody left it was grab a seat and then wait for the staff to clean and reset the table (which they did very well by the way). We had to go up and get the food in pairs to prevent anybody from pinching the table.
Dinner was the same which was operated on a two sitting basis. Never did I go for dinner and didn't have to queue for food. When we left at 8pm the queue for the 2nd sitting was unbelievable. Glad I wasn't on that sitting. Ate out a few times as we just didn't fancy the repetitiveness.
Overall would need to agree with previous posts that the Hotel was on the poor side.

Submitted By: Mr D BeckwithHowever, our room was very small indeed, and in addition to two single beds crammed together, there was a bunk bed for the children. The balcony overlooked the main road and was so small that two of us couldn't stand on it without considerable manoevring of the small table and 2 chairs that were on it. It became clear after chatting with fellow holiday makers that we'd drawn the short straw and that ours was a particularly small room, but that was cold comfort at the time. Especially as we'd all paid more or less the same.
The pool area is very small indeed, and overcrowded in high season. Sunbathers lie cheek by jowl with complete strangers like a row of sausages in a pan, and the pool itself isn't adequate for the number of people in the hotel.
We thought the food was quite good - the fresh fruit and vegetables in particular, although the organisation of the evening meal left a little to be desired.
One of the reasons we'd chosen the Alcudia Hotel was that the brochure mentioned a kids club. Disappointingly, this was a large hut and a play area where adult supervision, particularly of very young children, was a necessity. There were no structured activities for kids, and the lady who oversaw the facilities had her own baby to look after.
Our kids (6 and 9) tried to take part in some of the adult daytime activities, but frequently found it difficult as the equipment was al full size. The Entertainment host, Alex, was good, and did his best with the limited space around the hotel that he has to work in.
The beach is great - SOOOOO much nicer than the pool, and there are plenty of good restaurants about. All in all, we'd go back to Alcudia in the future....but not to this hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs S DunmoreRoom was basic and a little shaded but thats all I could really complain about (after a couple of days it felt like our own anyway). Food was great, staff were naturally very friendly, reception was extremely organised and we checked in and out in no more than 10 minutes each time. Location is ideal, lots of places to eat and close to the beach and Port. Bus service is cheap and regular, also taxi rank is close by. Reccomend you book airport transfers with a company called Resort Hopper. First time we have used this company and it was so easy. After you collect your cases there is a desk just through departures where someone greets you in english and directs you to the coach. Quick call to them 24hrs before and you know your pick up time for departure.
The best thing about Hotel Alcudia is Alex, in charge of entertainment, what a very funny man!! Throughout the day we felt drawn to play such simple games that had us in fits of laughter. . . thank you : ) XXxx

Submitted By: Mr I ClarkThe receptionist was friendly and explained a few things to us. We hired a safety deposit box at 21 Euros with 6 Euros back when you hand the key in at the end of your stay (make sure you keep the receipt).
We were allocated two rooms, 122, and 123. I specifically asked for two rooms together as one of the rooms were for two 13 year olds. The only problem was that we were overlooking the main road which was always busy. This didn't spoil anything however and we soon got used to the sound of the traffic.
The rooms were cleaned and towels changed daily and the maids did a great job. The rooms were a bit dark but again nothing to bad.
The pool is small but the area around the pool is far too small for a 200 rooms plus hotel. With us being there end of season it wasn't that busy around the pool but I can imagine it being a big problem in high season.
The restaurant food was typical buffet style. I personally found the food in the evening barely edible but my wife thought it was ok. This was the biggest let down of the hotel I felt. The snack bar next to the pool though was very good value for money. The kids had a couple of light meals and found them to be ok.
All in all Hotel Alcudia is a pleasant hotel and is what you would expect for a 3* establishment.
As for Alcudia, the Marina is stunning and the restaurants on the marina are fantastic, as is the night time market. Try out the shellfish paella at the Bistro Mar. It was recommended to us by a taxi driver as the best in Alcudia and she wasn't wrong.
Entertainment was good if you're over 35. We spent most of our time at Pago Pago. A great place to eat, drink and be merry. Not a great deal for 13 year olds in Port d' Alcudia at this time of year. If we'd gone a little earlier I think it would have been better for them.
I would recommend Port d' Alcudia to any family looking for a relaxing holiday with good facilities, great beaches, great food, and friendly people.
We really enjoyed our time there and I would definitely go back. Thank you Jet2.

Submitted By: Mr R THOMASHotel room was spotless but a little cramped as my 6ft 2 son had to sleep on the bottom bunk in a set of bunk beds ( which was funny to watch)but at the end of the day you were more out of your room than in it.
Pool was okay size but sun beds were placed right at the edge of the pool, so if you like just to sunbathe beware of the kids jumping in the pool and splashing you.
But on a more serious note if you have children that can't swim the hotel does not employ a life guard so you have to have your wits about you when the kids are in the pool, especially when you have the big kids jumping in the pool.
If like me you just sunbathe you get kicked off your lounger at 6pm as the need to clear up and get the tables and chairs out ready for the nights entertainment which is okay but not best as the hotel is surrounded by residential apartments so the live music cannot be loud ands you have to struggle to hear the show with all the noise from the kids playing pool and games.
Breakfast was great ,cereals, cooked breakfast, oj and coffee, plenty of fruit but the evening meals were not my cup of tea not the best selections but this is only my opinion plenty of the other guest would eat in, plenty of nice bars and cafes that had nice food and cheap beers.
Carabelas steak house on the main road opposite the beach was outstanding and I highly recommend it ( a family meal of, 2 rounds of drinks, 21oz t bone steak, 2 chicken breast meals and 2 pork chop meal ) 70 euros.
So at the end of the day you can read all reviews you like, you make your own fun on holiday so take a risk and just go for it. Life’s to short; we all had a brilliant holiday so roll on next year.
Hope this review helps in some small way.

Submitted By: Mrs T MaddenI wouldn't recommend this hotel for anybody taking young children, as the entertainment is minimal and more suited for children around 9 or 10 years old.
Our room was OK but the balcony was far too small and overlooking a busy main road which prevented my husband and I from sitting outside and having a relaxing drink.

Submitted By: Mr H CattermoleWhat I can say is that all the staff were very friendly and very helpful and couldn't have been any better. The waiters around the pool area in the evening work hard and were all-great.
The food is ok; don't expect anything too special though. The breakfasts were good and plenty of choice although the bacon never seemed to be cooked and looked raw.
The dinners were good to again with plenty of choices. All in all we ate very well during the week.
The hotel is clean although our room was small and very basic.
If we go to Alcudia again we may choose another hotel, but saying that, the Alcudia was ok.

Advice: Pleasant resort
Activities: Get onto the local buses - Alcudia old town - 1euro
Good for: Beach
