Best day of my life
We booked the hotel for our wedding 20 months prior to the event held on the 26th May 2006 and had our share of problems in the months leading up to the wedding. This was until the arrival of new management which may I add are well mannered, highly competent, and did everything they could to make up for the disasters we had faced with the previous owners. Yes it is true that the old rooms in the hotel are in need of renovating. (I believe this is happening early next year) However, the new rooms are spacious, modern, spotless, and... more
Good in parts
Stayed here one night in June on a Dinner, B & B rate. Overall, not bad value and the food was pleasant - very well-conceived and executed. But had a long wait to be admitted to restaurant, despite booking a timeslot in advance. Had requested a room near to the lift on booking request, only to arrive and discover that there is no lift !! - so beware anyone who can't manage stairs. Bedrooms were stifling during a hot weather spell [not helped by sweat-inducing 'plastic' mattress-protectors on beds and smallish-opening windows] and... more
Super hotel, staff really made us feel special, lovely spacious room
Stayed just one night a Saturday, booked for dinner which was lovely don't know how they manage to produce the high quality of food for only £16 a head for 3 courses, had a lovely room in the extension with a large bathroom, large bed with lovely furnishings, table and 2 chairs, with 3 large windows over looking the garden, breakfast was lovely too with good quality seasoned sausages, stayed again for lunch which again astounded me as it was just £12.95 per head for 3 courses, one of which was roast sirloin beef! Lovely service, the staff... more
Improving
After seeing previous reviews we stayed there for the weekend with low expectations. But the renovation of the bedrooms appears complete and they are quite nice. Good shower, LCD TV's (but only 5 channels), nice beds & linen. The reception and bar area is still dingy and judging by the decor here (dark green or orange painted walls) we cannot imagine what the whole place used to look like. Still signs of a lack of management though. Staff almost demanded to know what newspaper we wanted for each morning, but when we asked they... more
In Transition
I stayed here in the middle of their renovations. Staying in a newly rennovated room, it was comfortable, clean and quiet. Because of testing a smoke machine for a reception, the fire alarms were set off one evening and the staff struggled to get them off for about an hour. Apart from this problem I have no other complaints. The staff were quite friendly and the food was good. I'm not writing rave reviews about the hotel, but it could be worth a try if you need a hotel in the area and the renovation problems have been ironed... more
Worst Evening Ever!!
Me and 13 friends decided it would be a nice idea to go for a meal for xmas at a decent place, where we could all get dressed up and have a good night, so we booked all of us in for the dinner dance costing 35 a head (all of which was paid in full before hand), when we arrived we were lead into a smokey bar, crammed so full with people that you could hardly move, we then decided to go and find our table, once seated ( with 10 on one table and 4 an another) we were given the starter before we sat down- which was by the way very disappointing,... more
Fawlty Towers is better
I wouldn't put my dog up in this hotel. It's an absolute disgrace. I have never posted a review such as this one on tripadvisor before, and am usually moderate in my opinions, but this is a different occasion. We arrived at the hotel in the early evening, with our booking numbers and printed receipt/confirmation from Expedia, only to be told that our booking didn't exist. The lady behind the desk was thoroughly rude, and even went so far as to tell us that the hotel wasn't a part of the Best Western chain, which is clearly a lie since "Best... more
