Rooms need fumigating
Ok, it's cheap but the first room I tried smelt of damp/ sweat/ I don't know what. The stench hit me the minute I opened the door. To be fair, I was switched to another, slightly less smelly room but still not good.
A bit grim but ok
Stayed here for one night for a wedding in nearby Bradford on Avon. Reception staff were friendly enough and we paid £10 for an early check-in although felt this was a bit cheeky considering the budget nature of the accommodation. The room was clean although on first entering there was a smell a bit like stale sweat. After opening the window the smell cleared but it wasn't all that pleasant. The rooms could do with a bit of a refurb - carpets were tired and the bathroom was dated to the extent that the heated towel rail in the... more
Basic but brilliant
We showed up late (9ish) at one Travelodge but it was full. The woman on the desk called Beckington for us and secured a family room for £65 - not bad for 3 adults and a toddler. At Beckington, the reception was warm and the woman on the desk couldn't do enough, finding us a cot and extra bedding. Sadly the Little Chef shut 15minutes early at 9.45 so we had to find some food at the garage next door which was OK. Breakfast at the Little Chef the following morning was fine. As an emergency stopover it was fantastic. As long as you don't come... more
Basic - Damp & Not very clean
Stayed here for 1 night to facilitate a visit to Longleat. First room we went into (No 25) smelt really damp. On further investigation we found the carpet damp and underlay soaking wet outside the bathroom door. Obviously been a flood at some stage. We were moved to another room. Had requested bedding for four people. Whilst is was in the room one of the duvets was not clean. It was wet (probably from a childs accident) and had a cover on that was dirty (looked like a child had been sick on it). Generally cleanliness of room was poor and... more
Looking tired and smelling damp
We stayed for one night and for the price of £65 felt it was poor value for money. The room looked very tired with marks on the walls, mould on the bathroom walls and ceiling, and a broken electric towel rail "disconnected for your safety"(!). Worse of all was the strong smell of damp in our room - waking up to this was unpleasant. On the plus side the reception staff were friendly and the room was relatively large. Won't be going back there in a hurry though!
Basic, but unclean
We also used this as a base for visiting Bath Spa Uni. Room looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly for months, dusty round the edges of the carpet and in the corners. The divan on the double bed had a stain down the side which resembled vomit. Mould on ceiling in bathroom and on the tiles. None of us used the bath/shower for fear of what we might catch!! I did fill in the feed back email that was sent to me but never heard from Travel Lodge again. I would never go hear again......ever. Used Little Chef next door... more
Big Rooms, Little Price... what else is there?
I must admit, if you did not stay here for 29GBP then you did not book early enough (with a credit card paid over the web). But, if you are visiting Bath and are smart enough to plan ahead, then do not hesitate. This is the best place to stay if you like to save poundage and/or need a room for 3. Just 15 mins down the A36 from Bath and you have a real (almost American-sized) room for under $60. Better room than most Motel-6's in USA. You get a double bed and a couch with a smooth matress that makes for a good "third" bed.... more
Do it at your peril!
Haven't a credit card so couldn't book online, phoned them and they said I could pay at the desk. Got their early and tried t check in before a meeting, but was told I couldn't pay cash!!! Explained I had been told that I could so he decided to make an exception but would only take a booking for one night not the cash for two!!! Apparently this is policy! In the end I rang a friend to book the second night on his CC so I wouldn't be without a room the next day... He then told me he would reserve the room but I had to come back at... more
Functional but that is about it
I have just returned from three nights at this Travel Lodge using it as a base to explore the area. The accommodation is as you would expect - basic . You do not stay at places like this for home comforts. Ask for a room at the rear to avoid the traffic noise.Although the room was cleaned when we arrived i have to ask whether housekeeping went to the room on our last night to do anything other than shake the douvet. Nothing else, literally, seemed to have been touched.Would i stay there again - no
OK if you are desperate!
A typical Travelodge, views over a petrol station. Functional and cheap. The bathroom in my room had mould on the tiles and there was a strange smell in the room. The bed was spotless and comfortable. OK if you want a cheap place to sleep.
