Oct 2006, Mr Malcolm Fitzgerald

We had read the previous reviews and the consensus of opinion about the Florenc Hotel was encouraging so we decided to book a holiday at short notice here. It was worth comparing various web sites to find the best rate and they differed a lot. We were not disappointed and our high rating is based purely on value for money.
We doubt pound for pound whether this could be beaten in Prague. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bathroom 4 star. OK there was no hairdryer and coffee making facilities but is it worth paying a lot more money for these facilities especially as it was a sight seeing holiday and you do not spend a lot of time in your rooms.
When booking we requested a room at the back of the hotel so we did not hear the traffic, which was probably only a problem if you had the windows open in the summer. The cold buffet Breakfast was adequate without being special and good enough to get you started for the day. We also used the bar area for drinks and coffees when returning in the day and in the evening. in our view the only drawback was the hotel was in an uninspiring area of Prague and the 15 minutes walk every time to the hub of the city was laborious. Provided you can put up with this walk a couple of times a day then we can recommend the Florenc Hotel.
Prague is wonderful and there is so much to see and providing you stay away from the main squares eating out is reasonably prices and the food is good. We visited a jazz club in the city one evening which was a worthwhile experience.

If it value for money you want the...

Oct 2006, Mr Leo Tippett-Wilson

If it value for money you want the Florenc hotel will be difficult to beat. The rooms are excellent, larger than expected and clean with a modern and spacious bathroom and an excellent shower.
The towels were changed daily. There were two armchairs in the room and a television which did not show any English speaking channels. The beds were quite hard but this did not effect our sleeping. No additional equipment like a hairdryer and coffee making facilities but then if you want these added luxuries you would expect to pay more. The staff were both efficient and friendly and willingly gave directions and advise.
Also a small, pleasant and informal bar which doubled up as the breakfast room in the morning The breakfast was a cold buffet help yourself breakfast with a restricted variety of choice. The rooms also had fans but had no air conditioning. Probably the biggest drawback was the Florenc Hotel's location. It was in Prague district 8 which in itself had nothing to offer and it was a 15 minute boring walk to the nearest tourist attractions.
There was a metro station a few minutes away but as there was no metro line to the Old Town or Castle it use was limited. The trams were a far better way of getting round but to see Prague the best way is on foot. A great 5 day break Prague was fantastic and the Florenc Hotel suited us ideally but for anyone wanting a city centre location with more facilities you should expect to pay a lot more.

Oct 2006, Mr Matthew Strong

If you go along with the saying "What you Pay is What You Get" then the Florenc Hotel is very good value. Probably the main negative for us is that is was situated in a nondescript area and was about a 20 minute walk from the Old Town which was further than we would have ideally preferred.
Otherwise we found the hotel to be comfortable with larger than expected clean rooms and with a modern bathroom and a great shower. We had two small armchairs in our room but like so many European Hotels no tea/coffee making facilities supplied. Also no hair dryer which my wife found difficult. The staff were friendly, obliging and could not have done more. Breakfast was nothing special with only a limited variety of choice although you could eat as much as you liked. Also a very pleasant bar on the ground floor.
The metro station was only 3 minutes walk away if you wanted to use the cheap public transport system to get round. In our opinion the best way to view Prague is on foot so take comfortable shoes. Avoid using taxis as they are notorious for significantly overcharging you. It is worth while going to one of the early evening short classical concerts and having a drink in one of jazz clubs whilst you are in the city. If you are happy to stay in good quality accommodation with luxuries then the Florenc Hotel is a good choice, but if you want something up-market and central look elsewhere but expect to pay a lot more.
Eating out can vary but the food was generally good although to eat outside in the main square in the Old Town was expensive. You must try a dish with dumplings one night which is the local specialty. Wenceslas Square can get rowdy on Friday and Saturday nights but otherwise is OK.

Oct 2006, Mrs D Ryder

If you do not mind being a minimum of 15 minutes walk from the nearest tourist attractions then the Florenc Hotel is a good choice and not too expensive.
There is a metro station 3 minutes walk away and public transport is cheap so if you are in a hurry you can use this option. However most of the sights in Prague are best seen on foot and really more than any other city e have visited there is a lot of walking involved to get the best out of your stay. The room at The Florenc Hotel are nice being a good size and clean with two arm chairs, but if you are facing the front can be subject to a small amount of traffic noise.
Best to request a room at the back of the hotel when booking. Also the lift is a little slow. Breakfast was good albeit the choice being a little limited. The staff could not have been more helpful and the hotel had a friendly and cheap bar on the ground floor.
Overall we were very happy with the Florenc Hotel and thought it was good value for money.

We wanted to include in our itinerary...
8 / 10
Oct 2006, Mrs J White

We wanted to include in our itinerary during our 5 day stay in Prague an afternoon Horse Racing. Which is held every Sunday from April to October. We were aware the Florenc Hotel was on the right side of the city to enable us to do and it turned out well. It was easily accessible and no to too far away. Altogether were very happy with the Florenc Hotel. The rooms were larger than expected and clean. A good bathroom and television.
The only slight glitch was there was no hairdryer of tea making facilities in the room which was indicated on the hotel's web site. The staff were really excellent, helpful and informative. The breakfast which was included in the price was self service and fairly basic but there was ample unless your priority was for a large cooked breakfast. It took us 15 minutes to walk to Wenceslas Square and about 18 minutes to the Old Town.
There was a good variety of restaurants although you need to be carefully if eating outside in some places as the prices do not resemble those indicated on the menus, these prices related to eating inside!!. Public Transport was cheap and good with a variety of tickets available. We visited a Jazz club in the Old Town one evening that was very good but they did load the price of the drinks. Do not miss Prague Castle, The Funicular Railway, where at the summit you can climb the mini Eiffel Tower (290 steps). The Jewish quarter tour is very interesting (make sure you get there for 10 o'clock when they open to avoid the queues and crowds).
Also it is worth taking one of the River trips and the evening Ghost guided walk was fun. Shoes can be a bargain especially if you look at the shops outside the main tourist area. One tip do not use the taxis they are notorious for overcharging and conning you. We found that most people in the city spoke good English.

Oct 2006, Mr D Morrell

A good value hotel. The rooms were larger than expected for this class city hotel. Plenty of drawer and wardrobe space.
The bathroom and the shower especially were excellent. The breakfast was buffet style which a limited choice but adequate choice and hot frankfurters every day. It was a 15 minute walk to the old town and was about as far away from the centre as you would want. The metro station which was on two of the three lines was only 2 minutes away if you want to be lazy!
Rooms facing the main road do suffer from a little traffic noise but it was not too bad. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful and could not be faulted. Also a bar on the ground floor with cheaply priced drinks which was useful when returning in the evening. One tip use Cedaz Minibus bookable on arrival which takes you direct to the hotel and picks you up in return if you book at the same time.
Cheap and excellent reliable service. We would certainly recommend the Florenc Hotel if you want good budget accommodation and do not mind be a short distance from the centre.

This is a good value 3 star hotel...

Aug 2006, Mrs V Plunkett

This is a good value 3 star hotel that is located about 15 minutes walk away from the tourist attractions. The beauty of this hotel is that is close to metro station and tram stop that will enable you get all round Prague without being right in the centre.
The hotel has been refurbished and the rooms are basic but comfortable and adequate for a sightseeing holiday. The bathroom is clean and staff here are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a cold buffet style.
The only drawback is the lift which is slow and past its sell by date. We would recommend this hotel for good value and accessibility to the sites.

The Florenc is a traditional 3* Hotel...
7 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr R Howard

The Florenc is a traditional 3* Hotel in a non tourist area about 15 minutes walk from the centre. This area is not the best in Prague but we felt safe. There is a metro station nearby.
The hotel is an old building and the rooms were comfortable without being exceptional and the bathroom facilities were OK. Breakfast was buffet and adequate.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The worst aspect of this hotel was the lift which was exceptionally slow and you often had to wait 5 minutes for it to arrive. Best to walk down the stairs therefore not recommended for anyone with walking difficulties.
When in Prague avoid eating in the main tourist areas where you will pay high prices for poor food. Try one of the streets leading off these areas for value and authenticity. Prague is fantastic city but one word of advice avoid using taxis as they are notorious for overcharging.
Public transport is excellent unless travelling after midnight. We can recommend the Florenc for a good base value hotel for a sightseeing holiday. If you want extra comfort you will pay more elsewhere many hotel area a good way out of the city centre.
