Lovely Hotel
Very cute and lovely hotel. Service was generally very good. Although they have messed up the room service for breakfast, they managed to bring something up fairly quickly once I called them up.
Expensive but lovely
We stayed for one Saturday night this month and just wanted to say how lovely it was - very well situated for the centre, with secure parking. The outside restaurant seating area was perfect since the weather was so good, the food was excellent. The rooms were very comfortable although ours which faced onto the high street was a little noisy with the window open. The hotel is expensive and the rate does not include breakfast - if you do opt for breakfast in your room, order for one person, there is enough delicious food to serve a family!
small & noisy!
I stayed recently in a standard room. For the price, I was disappointed with the room size, which was very small. No DVD player, and it took me a while to tune the pretty lo-tech radio. No way either to control the heat of the room, and I got very cold in the night. The noise from the traffic was also pretty constant and kept me up most of the night. OK hotel, but you shouldn’t be forced to get a superior room in order to get a decent nights sleep – especially at these prices.
Perfect location, great hotel
Stayed for a couple of nights while I was in Oxford. Lovely hotel, in the perfect location for looking around town. On the old street, in the nicest part of town, just down the road from shops, river, Magdalen College etc. Room was v.clean and a good-size. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant is v.good, waiting staff are v.young but good. Quite expensive, but worth the money.
Fine rooms, not-so-fine service...
The Old Bank's location, in the heart of Oxford, can't be faulted, nor can its polished modern decor or the comfort of its rooms. But in the 2+ years since my last stay in November 2004 (see review below), the service has declined. In the room I was assigned, the following things initially didn't work: the television, the broadband internet connection, and the in-closet safe. Though asked to do so, the hotel staff never fixed the safe; I had to trouble-shoot the broadband connection myself (and succeeded); but they did send someone to fix... more
We had a great time
We had a one night stay on a recent Saturday at the Old Bank Hotel and were very impressed. We hade reserved a 'deluxe' double room for £210 per night and were very happy to find the our room was 'deluxe' indeed: it was at least 25 feet long and 15 feet wide. Besides being enormous, the room was very smartly decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had both a shower and a bath and was first-rate. The only shortcoming with the room was the lack of a mini-bar. There was a small refrigerator in the wardrobe, but... more
I would recommend the Old Bank
We have stayed at the Old Bank Hotel three times. I really like it. It iscertainly expensive but the cost is justified. The rooms are small but beautifully appointed, the bathrooms are really excellent. The Quod Restaurant attached to the Hotel serves lovely breakfasts and all the lunches and evening meals we have eaten there have been very good. We have always requested rooms at the back of the Hotel because we are concerned about traffic noise at the front. The views from the back of the Hotel are wonderful, however the Hotel is... more
city centre location, everything very efficient, staff very helpful, food good,
The city centre location is very convenient. The rooms are too small, but well equipped and very comfortable. The whole place is very efficient. The staff are very helpful and friendly and pleasant. The food is good, well-prepared and well-presented by cheerful helpful staff. The breakfast in particular is very good (better than the Old Parsonage!)
Great Location, Small Room!
Stayed here for 2 nights middle of October, I realised we had booked a standard room, so emailed the hotel asking if we could be upgraded, obviously I would pay the difference, they replied that they were full at the moment but will endeavour to upgrade if room becomes available. The hotel is in a perfect location for all the shops uni's and restaurants etc. The hotel is very nice and staff polite, however when we were taken to our room (23) I could not beleive the size of it, the comfortable double bed took up most of the room with... more
Wonderfully comfortable
We stayed twice at the Old Bank before and after a conference. Both times we had rooms on the 3rd floor, once overlooking the High, and the other the meadow. The ambience was slightly different when you could look out on the street which was bustling with traffic. Room was well-insulated so it wasn't noisy. Comfortable beds, a luxurious tub with marble surrounds and large white fluffy towels. We liked the Quod restaurant which was open from 7 AM to 11:30 PM so you could have all meals there if you were tired from sightseeing. We had... more
